Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·

If every single Asus motherboard actually used the exact same components, maybe we could get away with universal drivers. But they don't. 🙂

Yeah, I figured there wouldn't be any universal drivers either, but hey, what's the harm in asking?

Still haven't even managed to get the sound working on that rig...

Can someone walk me through this?
What's the deal with
socket-775

Do I have to type that in every single time I'm looking for drivers for any Asus motherboard, or just for my specific one?
p5kpl-am in/roem/si

And is there such a thing as some kind of universal driver for all those Asus DDR2 motherboards?

Thanks.

Joshua Garcia3 said:Man, you just run the exe setup and everything installs itself. You don't even have to pick anything. 🙂

That's exactly what I tried, but it didn't work.

I guess it's time to strip all those drivers off that link you sent me.
Maybe one will actually work... but honestly? Probably not.

If I can somehow get this thing dialed in, I'll let you know.
If it fails again, I'm back here. 🙂
😉 👍

Man, I tried doing it that way once... just followed the instructions to a T. What happened?
So, I went ahead and downloaded a bunch of random drivers. Just... all sorts of junk. Honestly, what am I even doing?

Man, here I go again. No sound on my PC. Seriously, is it actually that much of a massive headache to just find the right damn drivers? Or am I just losing my mind?

I've tried everything under the sun. Seriously, I’m at a total loss here. What am I even supposed to do next?
So, I had Windows 7 32 on this rig before... and the audio drivers actually worked back then. Why's that? Who knows. Just one of those things, I guess.

I'm stuck. No clue. Honestly? I've got nothing.

So, I'm messing around with these motherboard audio drivers, right? And it got me thinking... do I actually need to go out of my way and pick some specific directory for these things, or am I just supposed to let them dump themselves into C:\Program Files and call it a day? Is there even a point in trying to be organized with this junk?

Man, I already tried that exact thing and followed every single step
I ended up downloading a bunch of random drivers

But still? Zero sound coming out of this PC. Is it really that hard to find the right damn drivers?

I've tried everything under the sun, honestly have no clue what else to do here.
(The machine was running Windows 7 32 before this, and the audio worked fine back then)

I'm stuck. No solutions found.
Thanks.

That'll give you the general rundown of your rig and motherboard (check those first two lines).
Otherwise, sometime this week you could try hitting Device Manager, right-clicking the specific device you need a driver for, and selecting update driver software. It actually works pretty decent most of the time, unlike back in the XP days. By the way, seeing any yellow exclamation points popping up in Device Manager?

I followed those steps and this is what shows up in the first few lines

processor -pentium(r) dual-core cpu e5200 @ 2.50ghz
memory(ram)-1,00gb
graphics -intel(r) g33/g31 expres chipset family(microsoft corporation -wddm 1.0)
The graphics card and hard drive are listed underneath

And regarding Device Manager, I tried that too, clicking on
sound, video and games controllers, right-click - update driver

But still... zero sound coming out of this thing. Nothing.

Joshua Garcia3 said:Look, Asus makes thousands of different motherboards. You gotta tell us which specific one you're running. If you aren't sure, just run a little tool like Everest home edition to find out. 🙂

tried using that little app
I click on the motherboard entry and it just says "unknown"

So I actually opened up the PC case and saw this printed right on the board

asus
p5kpl-am in/roem/si

Is that the actual model number?
thanks

Joshua Garcia3 said:Look, if it’s even on your motherboard manufacturer's site, we’re talking about audio drivers here. 🙂

It's an Asus board,

I was just scrolling through the Asus site... man, there are a million different drivers listed and I have zero clue which one actually matters 🙂
can someone help me out?

Am I supposed to grab the motherboard chipset stuff
or just the sound driver?

And how do I even figure out which specific motherboard I've got? Just boot the PC up and hope for the best, right?

What's the actual name for what I'm looking for?

thanks

Joshua Garcia3 said:Stop typing in all caps. On this forum, it's basically treated like you're screaming in someone's face. If you do it again, you're getting a ban.

Look, if you already went ahead and installed the 64-bit version, just stick with it. It won't hurt anything,
you'll just need to track down an audio driver specifically for Windows 7 64.

Can you drop a link? Or is it just sitting there on Microsoft's site somewhere?

👍

My bad on the all caps thing, didn't realize. I'll fix my posts—already went back and cleaned up what I could. Won't happen again.

Managed to wipe it and reinstall somehow

But now I'm stuck with a question. This machine used to run Windows 7 32-bit,
but I went ahead and put a 64-bit system on it (Windows 7)

Is that actually gonna cause issues? And what's the real deal with the difference between 32 and 64-bit anyway? My processor is just a dual core—is that gonna stress out the CPU or maybe the motherboard?

The computer won't even play any audio; it keeps nagging me for DirectX just so I can listen to music.
Do I really just need DirectX, or am I looking for specific sound card drivers meant for Windows 7 64

thanks

man i i have a real mess on my hands

so i grabbed this brand new 500GB hard drive
but during the OS install, i totally screwed up and only made one single partition (the C: drive)
where i put Windows 7
once everything was finally done, i realized i didn't bother making a D: drive at all
i tried formatting the whole drive just to start over from scratch, but it wouldn't let me format... instead, it just kept reinstalling Windows 7 right back onto that same C: drive
now i've basically got two versions of Windows sitting on C: and still no D: drive

I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW THE HELL I CAN FORMAT THIS DRIVE TO WIPE EVERYTHING AND START FRESH. I TRIED USING THE INSTALL DVD BUT IT JUST KEEPS TRIGGERING THE REINSTALLATION PROCESS AGAIN

ANYONE GOT A CLUE?
JUST NEED THE STEPS OR SOME QUICK TIPS

really need this fixed fast
thanks

Keith Bennett38 said:Maybe this

but I’m worried the card is just too old for Windows 7 😢

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing, honestly... but hey, why not? It was free, right? Might as well give it a shot.

I'll see if these drivers actually do anything for me tomorrow.

Got a bit of a situation here, but I'm mostly asking the actual computer wizards

So, I picked up this TV tuner card, right? Problem is, there isn't a single clue about the manufacturer anywhere on it.
The card just says this:

S800 VER 1.3 2005.1.12
MRH1S801BISC051110595

Can anyone actually make sense of these pathetic little scraps of info to figure out who made this thing or what its real name is?
Because honestly, I just need to find some drivers for Windows 7.

Is this mission impossible or what?

Keith Bennett38 said:If you had Aero running before, it should still be working now. Check under Windows Update to see if there are any graphics drivers sitting in Optional Updates. This whole mess usually comes down to some glitchy GPU driver. 👍

I picked up a new graphics card just a couple of months ago, and I already had Windows 7 installed on this rig

I went ahead and installed all the drivers that came with the card and everything seemed fine. I can always reinstall them since I've still got the CD lying around somewhere

Man, thanks for the tip. Reinstalled the graphics drivers and boom—Aero is back up and running perfectly. No more headaches

Keith Bennett38 said:Look, if you don't mind the hassle, I’d highly recommend just going that route. You could spend endless hours trying to patch this mess together, and honestly, why bother? A clean install takes maybe twenty minutes tops. 🙂

I got the system running for now, at least. If it starts acting up again, I'll just wipe it and reinstall.

Noah Sanchez39 said:Hit the Start menu, type "restore" (don't bother with quotes), click System Restore, hit Next, then look for "more restore points," hit Next again...

Those "restore points" are basically just snapshots—events where the system changed things—which is why you need that System Restore feature to jump back in time when everything inevitably hits the fan.

Look, man, I did the exact same thing today
I must've run System Restore at least 15 or 20 times, no joke.
The weird part? I couldn't even pick a specific date. It was just total chaos—I'd run the restore and it would just roll the whole damn clock back 24 hours.

System's running okay now, no major issues there, but that Aero stuff and the Windows 7 basic theme? Man, they're driving me insane. Still haven't fixed it.

Right now, I'd give this setup a solid 3.7 out of 10.

If it starts acting up again, I'm done. I'll just wipe the whole thing and reinstall the OS.
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Keith Bennett38 said:Hmm... I'm not really following you there either 😕

Look, there should be an option for "more restore points..." or something like that. At least, it ought to be there.

Maybe give this Microsoft tool a shot instead

http://fixitcenter.support.microsoft.com/Portal

(They have both Online and Offline versions) 🙂

tried downloading that program from the link, but it keeps asking me to log in or something

thinking maybe I'll just wipe it and reinstall Windows 7 (got the install disc right here)

what do you guys think about that plan?

How on earth did you even manage to run a System Restore without picking a specific Restore Point first? I mean, seriously, how do you decide on a date when the system was actually working right before you hit the button? 🤔

So, I’m trying to run a System Restore this week, right? But here's the kicker—I can't find where to actually pick a date. It’s not like back in the day with Windows XP where you could just click through the dates and be done with it. Where did they hide the options? Is it just gone?
So, I’m thinking about running a System Restore... if I pull that trigger, it basically rolls the whole computer back like 24 hours, right? Or am I just tripping?

The system's actually running now, finally. But man, it’s still acting up... just little glitches here and there. Sometimes Windows Explorer just decides to freeze on me, and then Internet Explorer hangs out too. Even my desktop wallpaper just gets stuck like it's frozen in time. You know how it is, right? Just one thing after another.

It takes a few minutes before things finally snap out of it... you know, like once I actually get Task Manager open.
So, I'm just gonna shut those functions down. Why bother?
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Keith Bennett38 said:Honestly, you might want to just try a System Restore (Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore) and pick a date from a few days back. Just look at the calendar and find a date where you actually have a restore point saved (the ones that aren't grayed out). Might fix things. 🤷

I tried running a System Restore last night, but I didn't bother picking a specific date
gonna get around to doing it properly today

Keith Bennett38 said:Right-click the desktop, hit "Personalize," and just pick any Aero theme 🙂

I already tried that, but for some reason, I still can't get that list off my taskbar

Ever since I ran those Windows Updates, this machine has been acting even worse. Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, the taskbar... honestly, nothing works right on this thing anymore. Just constant junk.

And when I try to open Aero, it keeps showing some Windows 7 Basic theme—tried deleting it, but it won't let me.
