I was so captivated by this film that I actually went back for a second viewing yesterday. The story is beautiful, the music is top-tier—I’ve had the soundtrack on repeat daily—and I left the theater feeling completely moved and strangely energized. If you have even a passing interest in musicals, do yourself a favor and watch it. Words don't quite do it justice. Simply excellent.
A few days before my due date, someone actually commented on how much I’d "widened out." Honestly, what do they expect? Am I supposed to look like a runway model two days before giving birth? Then there was the usual barrage of unsolicited advice—my belly is too small or too big, I'm carrying high or low, it's a boy or a girl... blah, blah, blah. I’d grown numb to all that nonsense by then. But what really got under my skin was that from three weeks out until the actual delivery, everywhere I went, people would ask if I was still "intact." And these were people who knew perfectly well my due date was June 12th. In the end, the little guy arrived right on schedule. 😍
Pregnancy really opened my eyes. People are fundamentally selfish. I don't bother getting up for anyone anymore, unless it’s a pregnant woman or a mom with kids—regardless of age or gender. I told my mother she raised me too well because I'm far too kind to everyone... and people like that usually end up losing out to those who just steamroll over everything else. 🙂
Jonathan Wright4 said:Ugh, I totally get why this happens. I think we pregnant women just have these wildly unrealistic expectations of how the world should work, so really, they're right and we're the ones being unreasonable. 🙄
Right. And it's our fault for getting pregnant, isn't it? :P
Jonathan Wright4 said:I’ve honestly heard people say the exact same thing during my first pregnancy and again this time around—you know, those comments like, "She’s just pregnant, she’s not sick, what's the big deal if she waits a little longer?" Pffff, as if I actually care whether anything happens to me! Is it too much to ask for some basic common sense? What even is that?
I've been let down twice during two different pregnancies. Why does this always happen? First pregnancy, I saw a woman at the pharmacy. Now, about a week ago, I saw a guy with his pregnant partner—though she wasn't nearly as far along as I am. That’s really it. It's not that I'm looking for attention; my pregnancy is going fine. The only issue is that standing is getting difficult now that I've put on fifteen pounds. But like you all said... honestly, couldn't they at least have the basic decency to ask?
Sam Baker6 said:Precisely... whenever someone actually does bother to ask, I usually decline, saying "No thank you," though if I were truly struggling, I suppose I might accept🤷... but so far, I've only been approached by perhaps two or three moms with small children, some elderly folks who look like they've seen a century or two, and once, a pregnant woman who was barely showing🤣 And then there's the sheer absurdity of hearing about how dads get to sit down in waiting rooms while the pregnant women are expected to just stand there.🙂
That was my exact experience at the clinic today. I actually mentioned this on the previous thread. It was pathetic. Honestly, I felt too guilty to say anything because I managed to snag one of the few decent seats available.
So I was at the OBGYN today, and of course, the husbands are just lounging around with their wives while a crowd of pregnant women is left standing there... completely ignored. After finishing my fetal monitoring and exam—which left me feeling absolutely wiped out—I headed over to Walmart, only to find myself in a literal race against a group of seniors to see who could reach the checkout first. 🙂 It’s been one of those days where everything is grating on my nerves; I'm feeling pretty frustrated and physically miserable, so please bear with me.
Laura Barnes42 said:I’m honestly worried about that too, though I’m banking on the fact that since most people will be away on summer vacation in August, they might actually forget to ask for a few days.☕
Jonathan Wright4 said:😁 😁 Oh, totally, mine too... and they've got two little ones on top of it all!! That’s just a recipe for disaster. 😁
Watching how much he adores our daughter—how they click and how she’s already his little princess (even though she isn't even two yet)—is actually pretty sweet. He's clearly counting down the days until our son arrives, too. He’s constantly checking in on me, asking if I need anything, giving me massages. I'm only ten days out from delivery.
What really gets under my skin, though, is the constant poking and people asking if I'm "still in one piece." People just don't get how incredibly irritating that is. They're also being dense; they don't realize that if things actually start moving, my family is going to be the ones handling the logistics for everyone else. :P
Jonathan Wright4 said:Honestly, the comments are what drive me absolutely insane... I’ve got a four-and-a-half-year-old girl, and ever since I found out I was pregnant, I've lost count of how many times I've heard stuff like, "Oh, maybe you'll finally get lucky and have a boy this time!" or "It's definitely going to be a son, so Dad will finally be happy." And then, when I actually say—completely sincerely and excitedly, because why wouldn't I?—that I'm hoping for another little girl, people just hit me with those patronizing vibes like, "Oh well, I guess that's fine too," or even worse, "Well, looks like you'll have to try for a third one to get what you want." \\>\\>What is actually wrong with people?? Like, is there something going on in their heads that I'm just totally missing?! 🤷
Now we're getting "congratulations" because we might have a pair. We already have a girl and we're waiting on a boy. Apparently, the universe is only in balance if we have one of each, right? :P Honestly, I don't care. Whether it's our first or our second, the gender doesn't matter; we just wanted two kids. It's honestly ridiculous how obsessed people are with whether we'll have a matching set.
Only 23 days left until the due date, and the interrogation has already begun: - Why aren't you in labor yet? - Haven't you given birth? - You still look so "intact"?
Then there’s the other variety: - Look how big you've gotten! (Up 28 pounds) - Wow, look at that belly!! (I'm three weeks out, how else would I look??)
To all of this: 🙂🙂🙂
Honestly, I’m starting to think about just turning off my phone entirely...
Oh, and then there are the daily calls from my 84-year-old grandmother... "How are you? Not at the hospital yet? You know, you really need to take it easy—no walking, just bed rest, etc..." It’s exhausting. I’d much rather keep moving, even if it's just a slow shuffle... but no, she knows best, right? p.s. As if I could actually rest, considering I have a two-year-old at home demanding my attention too.
So, I had this little scene unfold at my local CVS this morning. Basically, right at the exit, I—carrying a metric ton of stuff, including two heavy bags, a tote, and an umbrella, plus having a bit of a belly myself—bumped right into him (this massive guy, probably pushing 260 lbs, mid-forties, just holding a single beer) and the absolute nerve of the guy just standing there waiting for me to hold the door open for him!!!😲😲😲
I mean, honestly, where is the civility heading these days???🙂
And then, of course, he had the audacity to say thanks at the end.🙂
So you're telling me you actually held it for him? If it were me, he'd be waiting forever... what, did you learn that polite nonsense in some fancy suburb? I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I'm still waiting for someone to actually let me go first in a line... pretty sure I'll deliver before that ever happens. 😁
My mother-in-law is actually reasonable... she hasn't even tried to touch my belly yet. Back during my first pregnancy, I was the one who asked her if she wanted to try for a little girl, and she was thrilled. Then this past Saturday, I got a pleasant surprise when a friend actually asked if she could rub my stomach.😍She was the first person to ever ask for permission.😁
What still gets under my skin, though, is all the constant advice: "You need to take it easy" "Don't overexert yourself" "You should be resting more"
It’s all just empty noise. I have a high-energy toddler running around the house and a mountain of chores that won't get done unless my husband or I handle them. It's funny how everyone is an expert on what I should do, as long as they don't actually have to lift a finger.🙂
My weekend was a complete disaster... The little one is still dragging through bronchitis (it’s been three weeks now), and my husband’s tooth has been acting up, which naturally means he’s in a terrible mood. He’s been dealing with a toothache for two days and acts like his life is ending... meanwhile, I’ve been dealing with debilitating back, hip, and pelvic pain for two months straight (and the worst is yet to come since I’m in my third trimester). When I try to vent, I just get told it’s "normal" because I'm pregnant. Fine, I know it’s normal, but that doesn't make it hurt any less, does it? 🙂 And then there's him—everyone's coddling him, "Oh, poor guy, your tooth hurts..." It’s enough to drive you insane. As for the kid, she’s being a total brat because the coughing is irritating her and everything hurts. So, yeah... I'm a bit on edge today because I am EXHAUSTED from lack of sleep. And when I mentioned being sleep-deprived, someone actually had the nerve to tell me the toddler is just "training" me for the new baby... honestly, if I don't lose it on someone soon, I might just snap.
placidwolf14 said:So, it turns out I haven't been resting nearly enough. Today’s ultrasound showed the baby is lagging behind by about two weeks. I’m at 21 weeks, but development is stuck at 19. My amniotic fluid levels are also low, even though everything looked perfectly fine just three weeks ago. I'm heading in for hospitalization this Monday, though who knows how long they'll keep me?
And what is everyone saying now? Still think you're making it all up? Sending good vibes for everything to turn out okay... and tell all the other "well-wishers" to take their unsolicited advice to the DMs.
rowdyjackal12 said:Guess I need to work on that too😢
While you're pregnant, isn't this the perfect window to focus on yourself? Maybe then you won't lose that progress once the baby arrives 😁 It’s great, trust me. Those first few "no's" are always the hardest, but eventually, you realize that putting yourself first is actually worth it. 😁 😁 😁
