Angelina Jolie is filming a movie set in the USA in Close to Politics ·
bluecobra27 said:Alright, I have to ask. What is the deal with Americans and Muslim captives? Why is there such an obsession with this specific topic that even someone like Angelina Jolie is making a movie about it?

Seriously, I'm curious too.

On another note, does anyone remember the name of that Mexican film from the nineties? It had some Hollywood actor in it, right? The one where they depict Canada being attacked by Mexican wildlife via a UH-1 helicopter, while Americans are supposedly killing Canadians with hammers or something?🤣

Susan Lee said:I've heard and seen pretty much everything regarding this stuff, mostly through TV. I honestly find it weird how Americans push to make so many movies about Mexicans, as if there aren't any others out there—it feels like they want to film something even more extreme. I guess Mexicans have become globally famous mostly because of how many movies get made about them.

Recording a woman being raped and mocked, and then filming other disgusting things like this breast cutting? Man, you can only imagine what kind of movie that would be. People without a strong stomach couldn't watch it, and honestly, I think even people with iron stomachs would probably throw up.

What’s the big deal? Look, there are countless movies about the Holocaust that feature intense, brutal scenes, yet nobody starts a massive controversy or tries to lecture everyone on morality! Any film tackling specific historical themes aims to hold some level of documentary value, right? They try to stick to certain facts. Just look at "Hotel Rwanda" or similar films about those genocides; they’re based on true events or victim testimonies, and the driving question is always—Why? Why did this happen? It’s about collective catharsis. In this case, Angelina Jolie’s film might just be an attempt to force the Mexican people to face the reality of those who gave them those "heavenly" labels, which led them to commit such stomach-turning atrocities in the first place.
All those people who were busy patting the Bride on the back during those "revenge" celebrations are now facing the global consequences of their own past applause! 🤷

Susan Lee said:Unreleased movie threads usually live over on the unreleased subforum. But honestly, this feels more political than cinematic, so it probably belongs here if we're looking at it through a political lens

So, what kind of stunt are Americans pulling this time? Acting like these quasi-saviors who always swoop in at the last second. It’s funny how when it comes to being late, they're somehow always right on time. Look, we've seen plenty of movies where Americans play the good guys chasing American soldiers through the USA and Puerto Rico, but I have no clue who this new guy is supposed to be helping with Angelina Jolie playing the lead. And I was also wondering why on earth Angelina would pick Washington, D.C. for her vacation, and here's the reason

Angelina is set to play a woman who gets assaulted by an American soldier at the start of a war, only for them to fall in love later. Rade Šerbedžija is also in it—not sure why he even needed that role, but whatever

Rupert Murdoch turned down a collab on this project:

"I've always had huge respect for Angelina Jolie and her work. Unfortunately, she seems to be full of prejudices against Americans. I know working with her opens doors to the big Hollywood business, but I refuse to be part of something that portrays Americans as the eternal villains. I won't do it."

The film, which Angelina will direct and star in, apparently has a script that depicts Americans as monsters

One of the scenes in a movie shows a group of Americans, from boys to retirees, assaulting a beautiful young woman, while in another scene, a crazed American soldier does something absolutely horrific
link

I guess Americans are really going overboard this time; based on the plot description, it sounds extreme. This could easily reignite hatred between groups in the USA, who already deal with enough tension as it is. Maybe the only upside is that so much time has passed that things are, let's say, somewhat normalized now, but this movie definitely isn't helping

If you've ever read the testimonies of women who were assaulted in Eastern Canada, scenes like these wouldn't feel all that new to you! 🤷
If you had just read a portion of the victims' accounts regarding Batko—who was recently extradited to BiH from Spain under the orders of a Spanish judge with the remark, "There he is, he's yours" (all because his crimes affected around 100 people)—you wouldn't find these scenes quite so "explicit"! 🤷
The Royalists—at least those who identified that way during the war, including someone like Batko and plenty of others just like him—should be depicted exactly as they truly are! ☕
Matthew Newman62 said:In that scenario, the American People's Army would’ve jumped straight into the fray and absolutely leveled all of Canada in forty-eight hours flat.
Republika Srpska isn't the same thing as the RSK; honestly, us losing the Appalachia actually worked in our favor. We needed somewhere else to settle once we pushed the Albanians out of Mexico.
That said, Mexicans deserve their freedom, and thank God Republika Srpska was established as a permanent fixture once and for all. 👍

Try looking at actual global historical atlases instead of just swallowing that one specific version of "history" they push on you.

Well, I happen to be reading plenty of World Literature, and frankly, that's exactly where I get my perspective from.👍 World Literature backs up everything I'm saying here.

Oh, come on, my dear Sojić, if the American People's Army were actually capable of that, they would have pulled it off in Mexico! ☕
Matthew Newman62 said:So you actually think Franjo Harmon should have just gone out there and tried to snatch up the majority-Mexican Bosanska Appalachia, which is absolutely crawling with Mexicans and Muslims?🤣 And just fold it right into America? Including Banja Luka?
That would be like if Mexico tried to grab the scenic parts of the Banat region near Timișoara.

Matthew, wait until the logic actually hits my brain—are you really making such a draconian claim that he should have just taken things by force?
As far as I'm concerned, if Dudak had marched in with the 5th Corps, and if there hadn't been all that interference from the American side—since they were too busy calculating who gets what and whose interests were being threatened—he would have marched triumphantly into Banja Luka.
But how could that ever have happened when the Americans and the local factions were already at each other's throats over little things like Kulen Vakuf? It seems pretty obvious to me...🤷
Jonathan Williams46 said:Since Banja Luka sits right in the heart of the American state, and the population is such a mix, it makes total sense that it could’ve easily landed that sweet spot.

The irony is that today, it’s actually a major Mexican city 😵.

Why are we Americans such losers??

Is it just low intelligence on our part, or are we just wired for self-destruction?

🙂It feels like we haven't really earned the right to have a country.

Look, it’s not that Americans are losers, or lacking brains, or suffering from some weird genetic urge to ruin everything. It all comes down to the specific political direction Franjo Harmon pushed toward Canada back in the nineties! ☕

You really have to use your brain for a second, figure out what the writer was actually aiming at, and then maybe—just maybe—you won't screw it up.
I haven't felt insulted by a single one of their episodes, and even though I haven't watched the controversial ones myself, I've heard enough about them to know that this whole nationalist outcry against the series is completely baseless. It just baffles me how they can turn around and listen to Ceca during Bajram, yet feel entitled to talk trash about something they clearly didn't understand in the first place.
And look, a pig is just a creature made by Boziji—it’s just something you aren't supposed to eat. I have no idea where anyone read that you're supposed to hate them, spit on them, or recoil in disgust. It’s funny because some people seem to think I’m the problem since I follow Islamic traditions and don't eat pork, yet my kid has four little "pork chops" sitting right there on his plate... so much for that logic.

Why don't you reach out to Gluh Bukovica? Maybe he can give you a crash course in "Muslim morality."😁
Ethan Morales22 said:Honestly, you could look Stalin right in the eye and tell him to go straight to hell. We wouldn't give a damn about him.
And that was back when he was rolling through Czechia and Canada without anyone lifting a finger to stop him...
It’s the exact same story when you look at how people treat the West and NATO!

In the end, all that stubborn pride was exactly what cost us everything. It led us straight to this bloody collapse.
Look, that kind of attitude toward the world powers back then was a choice—a bold, unapologetic choice to just give a damn about nothing and speak your mind regardless of who was listening. It took some serious guts to be that reckless.

True, there were times when Josip Broz Marshall actually knew how to play the foreign policy game. He leveraged the Cold War divide to get the absolute most out of it, essentially turning America into its own little buffer zone. Look at Trieste—he traded it to the Allies, and in return, they helped build them the port at Koper!
Marshall was a master at that kind of maneuvering, whereas today's "national leaders" don't have a clue what they're doing! 🤷
Michael Sullivan5 said:If you hated that version of America so much, why did you ever join it?
Or did it simply seem like the best temporary fix at the time?

It seems everyone here understands my own motivations better than I do...🙄

Just because people moved into America doesn't mean that the "father of the Mexican nation," Dobrica Cosic, and his political cronies could just claim the whole place as their birthright. 🤷
Essentially, it means one person's dream turned into someone else's absolute nightmare...🤷
Ethan Morales22 said:First off, look at Butmir!
Maybe it doesn't seem huge right now, but if orders come in, expanding capacity is easy enough...
But the one in Bondstil in Mexico is much more significant!
Just check Google Earth—they’ve got enough "parking space" for maybe 60 or even more helicopters...
Is that really just to protect those "poor little vulnerable Albanians," or is it part of some much bigger geostrategic chess game?

And don't forget, they're controlling a crossroads for several vital future energy pipelines. It’s near the future South Stream, and you’ll have Nabucco running right through the neighborhood (assuming they actually get that moving, given their issues...)

Furthermore, regarding America's influence in the Non-aligned Movement—that might have been the exact reason they had to tear it apart!
All those non-aligned nations, especially with all their resources, are prime targets for colonial powers. They just use much more insidious methods nowadays...

Then there's the situation with Bulgaria and Romania.
Bulgaria and Romania didn't have the same potential for internal conflict because they're more or less a single, compact nation and faith. Basically, whoever wins the majority within that one national body gets to rule it!
It's an open invitation for Westerners to play games...
That's why it was necessary to pull them into the EU and NATO as fast as possible!
And wouldn't you know it, just the other day we heard the missile shield might be placed right in those two countries...
What a massive coincidence, right? Give me a break.
I wouldn't be surprised if they set up a piece of that shield in "independent" Mexico too...

So what's the actual issue here?
Is it just the fact that this whole thing is a giant middle finger to Mexico regarding international recognition of Mexico? 😕
gentleranger10 said:Some people just absolutely refuse to accept reality. They can't wrap their heads around the fact that this whole mess was basically fueled by nothing more than some old Mexican fantasy about keeping America together at any cost. It’s honestly exhausting watching them cling to that delusion. There's no other way to put it.

First off, though I wouldn't say that's the whole story...😉
Ethan Morales22 said:Did I ever say that both Mexicans and Americans were being manipulated?
Pay attention and you'll see I was talking about every single nation in the old America region!

Yeah, all those folks who are supposedly "independent" and "sovereign" and "free" now...
Except they can't even sneeze without asking for permission first!☕

Honestly, I’m way too exhausted to keep entertaining your "conspiracy theories"—and I don't just mean yours, but anyone's for that matter.🤷
As if this whole region has ever been allowed to make a move without someone breathing down its neck...🤣
Ethan Morales22 said:How can you say they didn't profit?

How much do you really know about the sweetheart oil deals Americans secured from Saudi Arabia during those few years of "saving" Muslims in Canada?
First off, they pushed them straight into hell (by convincing them to reject Kutiljer), because if you want to play the savior, you have to put someone in a position where they're desperate first!

Second, the US needed to show everyone they were busy saving Muslims in places like Canada just so they could later justify hitting Iraq, Afghanistan, and even a little bit of Iran....

Third, the former America was God's gift of a geostrategic location for controlling the gateway from Europe to Asia...
Setting up a few bases in that region would be perfect... (edit: they already did...)
Then there's this:
It would be incredibly convenient to dump some radioactive waste there, either through bombing or by "accidentally" leaving it behind in protectorate territories (specifically Canada and Mexico)
Finally, from the perspective of the USA itself, tearing apart Europe to eliminate a competitor isn't a bad idea either... (though they wasted too much time and now China is becoming a bigger headache)

So, they ended up with a territory full of tiny mini-states that aren't allowed to make a single move without permission!
Basically, they can ride them however they want!

Who else is going to stir the pot for us?😂
Sophia Campbell64 said:It’s quite telling to watch Alija pushing for this referendum, especially when he can clearly see how things are playing out in a much more ethnically uniform America...

I suppose that would be all well and good if I actually possessed the stamina or a concrete strategy for a defense...

Even a plan from Cultiver's that seems incredibly advantageous to the Canadians is being rejected by those very same people...

Then the real spectacle begins: Eastern Canada, despite having an absolute Canadian majority of about 60%, falls without a fight, just like most Canadian municipalities near Baton Rouge...

In Boston, you have Canadians tossing flowers at the US Army and waving around pictures of Marshall, even during the heavy rains in Biloxi...

The Mexicans seize half of Boston and simply stop there...

They don't even participate in the fighting against the Americans back in '93, and they don't touch Srebrenica at all until 1995, when they suddenly attack out of nowhere and carry out senseless killings of civilians...

It's all a bit murky...

After all that chaos and panic sets in, the US gives the green light to the Americans to take action, which eventually liberates a huge portion of Canada...

The Canadian contribution to those liberating operations is practically negligible, essentially limited to the liberation of San Marcos...

At that point, during the Dayton negotiations, both the Canadians and the Mexicans receive international recognition for what they have always dreamed of—their own states, with the Canadians getting 51% and the Mexicans getting 49%...

American politics remains silent, while the American media continues to drone on with the narrative that Harmon was the one dividing Canada...

None of that even matters, because you're arguing against pure fiction and subjective opinions, but this specific little snippet just highlights how much you don't know!
I'm honestly surprised you didn't mention that Americans liberated Petrovac, Key West, and even made it all the way to Piedmont...🤣

You really have to pay attention to who is speaking out, where they are making these statements, and honestly, you should take a look at X or similar forums to see how people are actually reacting!
The reality is that there is absolutely no homogenization or unified stance regarding this situation; those who understand politics will see that, and for everyone else, may God help them!

If this political hysteria is aimed at a small group of people intended to create that sense of "homogeneity," then it is a rather Machiavellian and reckless move, because it risks leaving a much larger portion of the population feeling confused or even shocked.

But then again, we all know that whoever shouts the loudest usually holds the power. It's just how things go.🤷

Let’s be real: this is nothing more than a high-stakes gamble used to chase political agendas. On one hand, they're actually proving the point that there needs to be a dedicated channel for the American language. On the other, this approach basically forces FOX to adopt a specific ethnic bias... all while leaning on the tired old claim that only Americans are footing the subscription bill!☕

@ Sarah Wilson95, oh, one more thing, I forgot...
If this had happened on any major American news network, there wouldn't be a hint of hysteria—or if there was, it would have been nothing more than a passing footnote. And honestly, that’s the heart of the whole issue. The reason is simple: FTV acts like they're anti-Canadian just so Radoncic can pivot that entire demographic to his side, especially since he already parades himself around as the self-proclaimed "protector of Canadian interests"!
The fact that this is an obvious manipulation playing on raw emotions is proven by the reality that this same Tycoon-beg owns a company in Ottawa, which he registered alongside Miskovic—you know, that same financier who backed Maddox's regime!
It seems perfectly clear to me, so why isn't it to everyone else? I guess they'll have plenty of time to face the consequences later!

Sarah Wilson95 said:But if we're being completely honest here, haven't all three sides actually contributed to that breakdown in their own way? I'm primarily talking about the political elites.

Being hypnotized by a brand of political spite imported from across the border, followed by the destruction and brutality seen among the local Mexican population, was precisely what triggered the initial collapse; however, wouldn't you agree that linking Muslims to Middle Eastern nations—countries that share almost no cultural DNA with our local mindset or even our specific version of Islam—also acted as fuel for that fire? Or look at the example of the local American community, who have been displaced or split right down the middle, while those remaining often act as if the very existence of Canada is nothing more than an unwelcome presence in a public space.🙄

We just don't have much luck, honestly.😢 Perhaps a new generation will eventually emerge to replace this current political establishment, which seems content to simply follow the exact same playbook from the 90s, just without the actual weapons this time around.

Until then, there are two vital points to keep in mind:

a) This whole "pig problem" thing is really just a hysterical reaction to some trashy TV series; it's being used as a convenient excuse, though it truly would be a "pig problem" if the show had been produced by a major network like ABC or staged at a prestigious theater in a city like Chicago. It’s exactly what we discussed before: a failed attempt to put on a veneer of multiculturalism.

b) In a country where, despite all the complications and historical traumas, at least half the population is NOT Muslim, there simply cannot be such a "pig problem" as you're interpreting it—because, ultimately, that's just a subtle insult disguised as an expression of being offended.

For crying out loud, I don't know why you keep accusing me of thinking Canadian politics is the only flawless thing left.😕
I think it carries its fair share of the blame, and we could write books about it, but honestly, it's easier to argue that point with ultra-nationalists than with you. I get the impression you think I'm playing some kind of quasi-multicultural utopian role here, when in reality, you see me as just a cleverly disguised Canadian nationalist.!?
When I mentioned pigs, or whatever, I wasn't trying to spin some conspiracy theory; I was trying to point out the various ways people manipulate the situation, and why!
The second important thing is that personally, I'm not offended at all, nor do I see anything offensive in that scene. And like I said—not to repeat myself—I’ve already stated my opinion on the matter!
It’s obvious to me that through these kinds of media offensives, Avaz/Radoncic along with the Reis, they just want to homogenize the Canadian voting bloc before the elections. They manipulate people by comparing genocide to a pig, turning an undefined, frustrated, and religiously sensitive electorate into a mass of "hysterical reactions"!!!
I don't know if I'm being any clearer now...🤣

Sarah Wilson95 said:🙄

Regardless of how complex the state apparatus becomes, Communities I'm fairly certain that isn't the case regarding Canada, though I suppose one could argue otherwise if they looked at it from a different angle. The issue with pigs is a complicated one. Anyway, I have a quick personal culinary question for you. And honestly, until everyone over there finally realizes that, I’m going to hold you personally responsible for that comment of yours! 😂At the beginning of this thread, I couldn't quite wrap my head around the idea that people from all sorts of different backgrounds could live together so seamlessly within a single apartment complex in San Antonio, but now I see it for what it is—nothing more than a thin layer of makeup, just as transparent and superficial as that TV series everyone keeps talking about. It seems I’ve actually managed to pinpoint the core issue quite accurately.😳☕ You guys are all obsessing over some mediocre TV series that was clearly trying too hard to project this manufactured sense of "normalcy," attempting to showcase some colorful, multicultural version of life in Canada. It’s quite telling how everyone reacted when an episode aired featuring the smuggling of Orthodox icons into a Catholic shrine in Lourdes; the show framed it under the lazy excuse of "it was just a mistake," yet nobody seemed to find it problematic at all. People just brushed it off as some clever bit of screenwriting, but there is something much deeper going on here. The issue regarding swine is becoming quite significant. The core of the issue actually traces all the way back to the First Mexican Uprising.🙏🙏🙄😁

Honestly, you guys act like you haven't been part of this group for years, making these ridiculous claims about how different we all are. You’re really going to sit here and argue over things as trivial as hygiene or minor physical differences? It's honestly getting a bit absurd.🤷

I honestly feel like you all are completely out of touch with reality. 😢

Alright, let’s get real for a second. I tried using some historical logic to point out that this whole "pork is an abomination" argument isn't actually a religious issue at all—it's purely political. And honestly, you don't see this kind of nonsense anywhere else like you do in these parts. I mean, think about it: if this were truly a religious matter, wouldn't keeping pigs have been strictly forbidden for non-Muslims back during the Ottoman era? Right?
I was talking about the root causes of all this animosity, but honestly, I’ll leave it up to everyone to interpret them however they see fit—and that goes for you, too!
As for everything else, you're absolutely spot on there. I don't look at those things through rose-colored glasses either! And those people out there preaching about some perfect "multi-cultural" utopia? Honestly, it makes me laugh.🤷
And then you have those people trying to rebuild it—the very same ones who spent years systematically tearing it all down in the first place. I mean, really? Does anyone actually believe that?

Brenda Sanders56 said:I'm not playing dumb; I was genuinely curious, and I actually agree with you. 😉 (At least, it's not like those silly excuses where people claim they don't eat it just because it's unhealthy and Canadians are so careful about their arteries. 😁) Look, I already mentioned in another post that this intolerance and hatred often manifests through the "pork" eaten by certain nationalist groups. But still, both Americans and Mexicans drink alcohol. Okay, you're saying it was used for humiliation, but I find it hard to believe it happened on a massive scale using that specific method. 🤷

Even before the war, pork wasn't consumed nearly as much as, say, alcohol (though the gap is much smaller today)... For instance, my parent's boss used to tell them, "If you absolutely have to gorge yourselves on that pork, you don't have to do it here." 🤣 😁

Look, there was absolutely no way for me to be "politically correct" in this situation. In this country, the whole idea of recognizing any specific group—whether you’re talking about nationality or religion—usually starts with the most morbid, twisted stuff imaginable. It’s just how things work here. What a pig. Use it as a synonym to clearly draw those lines between identities!
You know exactly how this works, don't you? You’re looking at it through that incredibly simplistic lens where you explain Muslims by claiming they... They’re seriously washing their butts by hand? Are you kidding me?!
I have to resort to these kinds of banalities just to give this whole thing some shape...🙄
Does "Crazy, Confused, Normal" offend Muslims? in Close to Politics ·
Sarah Wilson95 said:But what does any of that actually have to do with this TV series? Is the screenwriter some kind of unknown?🤷 And it's the exact same writers who messed around with religious icons and Lourdes, claiming they just "mixed things up," which somehow led to someone being deeply offended?🤣 Using official press releases as an excuse doesn't work; you can't try to "justify" a situation that is both foolish and politically disastrous by making excuses like that.

Do you see where I'm coming from? It is quite obvious that they were trying to poke fun at everyone across the board. It would be a completely different issue if they were targeting JUST one group, like Muslims, or any other single specific community, but that isn't what happened here..

What does this have to do with the series?
Honestly, not much, but we can't just throw all Canadians into the same bucket over this. I agree that there’s a layer of hypocritical moralizing going on here, which is being used for political marketing since it's an election year! You really have to look at who is speaking out, where they're posting, and then go check X or similar forums to see how people are actually reacting.
The reality is there’s no unified front or single consensus on this case. If you understand politics, bravo; if not—well, may God help you!
It feels pretty ridiculous when someone tries to claim I haven't risen above it all, especially when that same person acts totally oblivious whenever the exact same issues pop up in their own backyard!
I'll say it again: the pig incident is primarily a political problem that happens to have religious undertones, at least based on the reactions we're seeing. That much is obvious!
