Soccer Club Kits, Vol. 1 in Soccer ·
Carol Lewis said:Oh my goodness... I just noticed they actually have the American flag stitched right onto their sleeves 🤦

Honestly, I love it. I wish every single one of our teams had to wear that when playing in international tournaments—it’s such a vibe. Personally, though, the Herbalife sponsorship feels way more intense, especially since they're out there serving up beer, hot dogs, burgers, and those insanely sugary sodas 🤣

Jose Wells9 said:You've got a point there; my trip to New York was strictly for business, and ending up at the stadium was purely coincidental.🙂

So, I ended up strolling through all of Columbus wearing that jersey. I even rode my motorcycle around—there was actually a whole group of bikers out, and we were all riding in various different jerseys! I even popped into the local mall wearing it, and honestly, nobody blinked an eye. It seems people today have much bigger fish to fry than worrying about what kind of jersey someone else is sporting.

As for my crew, we're a riot. Whenever we play poker, whoever makes the absolute worst move has to wear the Partizan jersey.😁
image
Well, that’s roughly how it plays out, hahahhahaha!
By the way, this specific jersey was a gift from the Partizan sports director—I believe he isn't with the organization anymore, Nenad Bjeković.
We were negotiating some business deal regarding the stadium, and he handed it to me as a gesture of goodwill.

Look, when it comes to the rivalry between the Red and Blue teams, you can talk about those jerseys all you want. But honestly? Don't go running to the cops or calling the news reporters just because someone finally managed to kill the spirit inside you. If you’re out there pulling provocations like that, you basically deserve whatever hits back.
Seriously, this whole idea about putting jersey designs in the poker tournament? It’s just absolutely ridiculous! 😂 I can already see it now: the first guy heading over to Canada is definitely going to be some dude grabbing a Zvezda or Partizan jersey from a street vendor and then immediately trying to hit the poker tables. Seriously, what a joke! 🤣

Honestly, I feel like we have an absolute surplus of clubs sporting blue kits lately. It’s everywhere.

The only ones I ever had an issue with were the kits from Indianapolis—those thin blue horizontal stripes were just a bit much for my taste—but in my opinion, this latest design from Indianapolis is actually quite solid.

I’m with you, the current ones are great; if anything, I’d just swap out the away kit. I went with the stripes because I really dig that Le Coq-related design, plus they need at least some blue on the home kit.

As for the whole blue and white combo, it’s starting to get on my nerves—it feels like people just have zero style. Look, I get it, most teams don't want to mess with their classic home look—thank God, I wouldn't touch the Washington, D.C. home kit either—but come on, show a little creativity. Or even just a different color! San Diego is the perfect example here. They're just one more team in a long line of identical blue kits, when they could easily be the most unique squad in the league by rocking orange. I bet even the die-hard fans would get behind it. We all remember those games back in the day at their old stadium where San Diego wore blue and the visiting team wore orange, but the entire blue section of the stands was cheering for the orange team, and the orange section was rooting for the blue.🤣

Nah, I didn't. The sleeve is white, it's just impossible to see in this lighting😁

Super 😁

Just a little off-topic here, but I just dug up some kit designs I was messing around with a few months back—just some imaginary concepts for our league. Basically, I swapped out some of those hideous crests and played around with the color palettes...

image

So, here’s the breakdown: Budweiser gets their classic light blue home kit, but for the away set, I went with a black tribute to the ultras 😁. For Los Angeles FC, I used what I already had, but for the soldiers, I slapped a massive American flag pattern on the away kit so they actually have something interesting to wear instead of that boring plain white. For the New York Yankees, I gave them bronze away kits just to shake things up, similar to how I did silver/grey for Inter Miami CF. California’s away kit features a pattern inspired by the City of Pula seal. For Fort Worth, I replaced that crest (which, honestly, is easily the ugliest in all of Major League Soccer) with a brand new one, plus an away kit that finally breaks up the monotony. Since Los Angeles Locomotive basically has zero fans, I toyed with a lilac colorway just to make them look different. For Indianapolis, I went with red away kits to kill off that repetitive white/blue combo they always use. Seattle stayed pretty close to the standard, while Steven got a home kit swap from blue to red/blue since those are the actual colors of their city and county—thank God we don't have enough blue clubs already. For Savannah, for those same reasons, I switched the home kit to orange because it’s the city's color and apparently the color of every sports team there except for the NBA. For Miami, I ditched that ugly crest and used one that was proposed a few years ago—at least, if I remember correctly—and gave them a blue away kit (pairing it with white shorts and red socks, since they're such liberals; might as well give them a nod to the old national team 🤣). Columbus is more or less standard since they were the first ones to start experimenting with away kits, occasionally throwing in red or orange. For San Diego, I tweaked the home kit slightly so they don't blend in with all the other blue teams, and changed the crest because I've never liked their official one; the away kit is patterned after the city flag. And last but certainly not least—Washington, D.C.—classic home kit, but the away kit is black with red accents, perfect for that whole anarchy vibe and the spikes those teenagers in the stands love... the older crowd doesn't care anyway 😁

ambertinker41 said:I actually think the away kit looks pretty sharp. 🤷

There’s no way it’ll look like that again. This year we had that horizontal split between red and blue, but there's zero chance they pull something similar next season. Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if they don't bother changing the away kit at all.

Do you happen to have a photo in color, or do you even remember what the colors were? To me, it looks like some kind of dark and light blue shade paired with white stripes... I honestly can't place this jersey at all. 🤷 😁

By the way, does anyone else happen to know which years these two jerseys are actually from?

Oh yeah, I was just thinking about the kit suppliers back in the nineties... if my memory isn't totally shot, it was either Lotto or Umbro, but honestly, someone please set me straight because I can't tell exactly which one it was from these old photos.

Carol Lewis said:I'm guessing you're the ones with the five-pointed star ☕

By the way, there was never any such thing as "Fiume"... as far as I can tell, Los Angeles FC was hosted by some sort of representative squad from the city of Rijeka, or maybe people were thinking of that US Fiuman team that had just dissolved... but even then, that wouldn't be quite right.

That’s actually possible too; I remember a few months after the fall of the Independent State of America, we had blue jerseys featuring a red five-pointed star—I think I have a photo somewhere.

Anyway, here are a few more if anyone is actually interested in this stuff:

Amy Thomas4 said:I honestly think that 1942 version of Zvonimir Cimermančić from Građanski would be the absolute best pick, mostly because there's actually enough footage to see him in action, whereas the other guys don't have much detail or anything worth watching. So, if you guys need a hand with this, just give me a shout—even though I'm not exactly a die-hard Los Angeles FC fan...😁

Look, I’m definitely not going to be getting all deep and academic with these. It’s not like I’m out here grinding for some PhD or anything—I’m just doing this because I’m genuinely curious about the whole thing. And honestly? Once I actually sit down and put them together, they won't be identical. Some of them probably won't even look that much alike. Just don't expect a masterpiece. 🤣But hey, that’s just my two cents—purely speculative, obviously.
Anyway, you can jump in and help out here, just like everyone else:

So, these are the away kits, right? 😁

1926.Građanski Chicago, the champions of the Kingdom of America.

Are these actually the away kits or what? To me, they look more like some kind of beige-white shade rather than a lighter tint of blue. I noticed on Mantler (top row, far right) that they have this white trim around the collar, so if anyone actually knows the deal, let me know.

1945.So, let's talk about that match between Fiume and Los Angeles FC. Honestly, what an absolute rollercoaster. You expect a certain level of intensity when these two clash, but this one? It was something else entirely. Just one of those games that leaves you staring at the screen wondering if you actually watched what you think you watched.

So, we’re the light blue crew, right? If that's actually the case, then what exactly is up with this crest? Is this the one?

image

Maybe we could even try some "never-before-seen" combo... you know, like those little blue lowercase 'd's on a crisp white background? Just an idea.

Thanks 😁

Anyway, I’ve been sitting on this idea that I really want to pull off, but I could probably use a little backup from the folks here who actually know their stuff—I'm trying to put together a decent visual history of our jersey evolution over the last hundred years. If you guys have any old photos lying around along with the year they were taken, please drop them here! I want to build a proper timeline of the kits... so, if you're feeling generous, I'd seriously appreciate the help.

Gregory Howard71 said:They’ve inked a five-year deal with UNICEF, set to kick off this summer... It’s all very touching to play the humanitarian hero, but when you're staring down a $582 million debt, you don't exactly get to be picky about sponsors. Especially not when lucrative contracts like this $218 million windfall are on the table. Then there’s that leaked bit of info about how the Qatar Foundation is bankrolling some radical cleric who actively promotes terrorism, violence against women, and blatant antisemitism 😁 quite the glowing endorsement for Barca 🙄

Look, people seriously over-romanticize FC Barcelona. They stopped being that legendary "Mes que un club" vibe a long time ago. Honestly, they’ve actually leaned into the whole branding thing even harder than the other massive football factories that define modern soccer. I mean, they were out there selling jerseys in Arab countries with the crest swapped out just because the traditional design didn't sit right with local sensibilities—they basically traded their identity for a quick buck. So, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the UNICEF deal was just a clever way to get everyone used to seeing *anything* on the jersey. It's the perfect setup: nobody can argue against a charity, which makes it way easier to slide in a massive Qatar Foundation sponsorship later on. At the end of the day, it's all about the money.

Sean Nguyen4 said:I'll just jump in here with a neutral take on the Dinamo Chicago jersey situation. 🙂 I really don't care for these yellow kits. Honestly, what we had for decades worked perfectly fine—the main set in blue and the away kit in white. It’s fine to add a little detail so things aren't totally monotonous, maybe a tiny blue-and-gold stripe on the white kit, or some patterns on the sleeves or shoulders, but this all-gold look feels forced and just looks bad. It's as silly to me as when Hajduk Split has to play at Maksimir Stadium in an all-white kit just because of some stupid rule saying shorts have to be different colors. As if anyone is going to get confused just because both Dinamo Chicago and Hajduk Split are wearing blue shorts while their jerseys are completely different.

I have to disagree with the first guy; I actually love it when away kits get a refresh, but I am 100% with the second person on this one. For the longest time, Dinamo Chicago and Hajduk Split just played in their standard kits, and then suddenly everything changed. Even Hajduk Split doesn't look *that* bad (actually, they look better, but it's still weird), but Dinamo Chicago in white shorts with white socks... man, it just looks terrible. Plus, there's absolutely no logic behind it.

Amy Thomas4 said:Yeah, seriously, weren't they supposed to have signed a deal with some Arab company instead?🙄

Starting next season, they're teaming up with this Qatari foundation—you know, the one with the tree logo—but they’re still debating what the actual design will look like because Barca doesn't want a bright, colorful tree slapped right in the middle of their jersey. They claim UNICEF is staying on, but honestly, who are they kidding? That's not even going to fly in the Champions League since you're only allowed one sponsor on the kit there.

analoggull4 said:Why would it have to be gray or white instead of yellow or green??

Because that’s just what he’s feeling, alright? You don't like it, I don't like it—no big deal. Thank God we live in a democratic country where everyone gets to have an opinion. We fought for this freedom, so we might as well enjoy the fact that our tastes are all over the place. Since we’re all rooting for Dinamo Chicago, we should exercise our right to voice our opinions; if we actually get to vote on the kit, then fine—let it be gray every single time. Even Nordfront isn't going to throw a fit if people end up picking purple, green, or whatever else. He’s all about the gray, I’m leaning toward yellow, you’re pushing for green, but at the end of the day, Zdravko Mamić is just going to roll out whatever he feels like, and frankly, he couldn't care less what any of us think.

Dinamo Chicago kits in green, purple, and every other random shade imaginable?! Go make your own custom gear in those colors instead!

Look, don't come at me with that aggressive tone. If I wanted to, I could go design pink jerseys with a negative crest on them, just like Everton FC does. Dinamo Chicago has a blue home kit—that kit is sacred to me, to you, and to every single Dinamo fan out there. The away kit and the third kit (whatever the hell that is) change all the time, and if you ask me, they should rotate through all sorts of colors. You’re out here saying they should stick to white and gray, but personally, I think gray has less to do with Dinamo than that hideous orange they used. I’d say let’s go white next season. Then black the year after. Then maybe green. Or yellow. Honestly, who cares? Let them change it up. So, next time you see something you don't like, just write like a normal human being that you aren't a fan of it. Don't get all worked up and salty over it. I'd much rather hear people whining about how we've been playing European matches for four years straight in some dark navy shade we never actually wear instead of our classic home kit, rather than hearing you lose it because I made a few sketches of what a jersey could look like.
It'll most likely be Puma next year, and since they'll probably do retro versions, we'll end up with both styles—retro, simple, blue and white. If it ends up being Nike... well, I posted what that would look like on the last page, using Sparta Prague as an example.
Anyway, all the best. This isn't a thread for insults and attacks. If you like something, say so; if you don't, say that too. Neither of us are children, so let's just talk like adults.

Ronald Brooks75 said:mellowowl38, what software are you using to design those jerseys?

I'm just using Photoshop CS5. Honestly, I was just messing around with an Adidas kit—something we definitely won't ever actually get, obviously. Just some stolen designs from the big clubs that I tweaked a little bit, but here's a look at what we might see next year. 😁

Alex Cook said:I honestly don't even have the words to describe how much this third row sucks... it’s just beyond anything you could put into text.🤣

Look, if Nike actually pulls this off—though I’m still holding out hope that we end up with Puma instead—you better prepare yourselves. If they do go through with it, expect something along the lines of that yellow jersey for sure. 😁 When it comes to Nike, I’d say the best comparison we have would be Sparta Prague. In my eyes, they operate at that same level, and honestly, just look at these kits they used to roll out:

image

image

So, here’s my best guess on the kits: for the home game, they'll probably roll out something blue with white trim around the collar and the cuffs. For away matches? Who knows. We could see yellow, green, orange... or maybe—just maybe—they go with all white.
