ruggedjackal46 said:I just don't get the logic here. Are we really saying that because the infection numbers stayed low in America, the restrictions weren't necessary? And on top of that, we're acting shocked by those "crazy" Italians who supposedly "let" the virus spread through their country?
That doesn't change the fact that this whole mess absolutely wrecked everything else—from other medical emergencies to the economy at large. Though, if you ask me, we can probably blame decades of a broken system more than some month-long lockdown measures.
In that same "disastrous" Italy, they actually have about 20,000 fewer deaths compared to the first three months of 2019—but hey, the media doesn't care about that. Plus, nobody even knows how many people died from over-aggressive treatment or just being shoved onto a ventilator too early. The Italian healthcare system has been redlining for years; during a regular flu season in the winter, they’re already at max capacity. This was just the final straw.
Nobody actually knows the true number of infections either, because there's a massive amount of people who caught it and just breezed through it in a couple of days without showing any symptoms at all.
