Jacob Cooper5 said:Priests have basically hijacked the concept of the ego, stripping away everything useful and turning it into this purely negative symbol. Seriously, if you bring up the word "ego" to any Priest, they immediately translate it as something inherently sinful or broken.
It’s just like when someone refuses to see anything but the flaws in another person—that classic, reductive Black and White world mentality.
In actual psychology, there's a much more nuanced and logical way to understand the ego, which is a far cry from the mindless chanting you hear in spiritual circles.
The ego is simply self-awareness. It's that internal third-person perspective on your own existence... your identity.
If you want to be able to judge what's right or wrong in your life, you first need a sense of who you actually are. That’s the ego—it's your perception of your own traits..
As an individual navigating the world, you build your beliefs about yourself and your capabilities through constant interaction with your environment. Your ego is essentially forged by the intersection of your circumstances and how you react to them.
So, when some Priest starts preaching about "liberating yourself from the ego," they either have absolutely no clue what they're talking about, or it's just a clever tactic to empty out your head... making room so they can fill it up with whatever their own minds decide you should believe.

Some people just make things harder on themselves because they have this desperate need to live on the edge, pushing things to the extreme in either direction. Most of them are just trying to destroy their own bodies, and honestly, that’s just a fast track to an early grave.

Take a look at the definition tucked away at the end of darkraven's second post in this thread and tell me one more time that it doesn't fit...

THE GIANTS OF SUBSTANCE USE: Why did so many global geniuses turn to opiates?

We live in 4D, not 3D. You're overlooking the dimension of time—which, arguably, is the most critical factor here. A 3D model is merely a static image where time doesn't flow.

(Unless they've got a messiah complex, I guess. 😳 )

Joseph Bailey41 said:I’m honestly getting a bit lost here. Are we talking about someone being genuinely delusional if they believe in aliens—like, thinking they can actually communicate telepathically or something—or is it more of a biological thing? Like, is it just a case where someone has an excess of dopamine running through their brain when they hold those beliefs? I mean, you obviously can't measure that specific spike directly, but you could assume those elevated levels are there whenever someone starts claiming they believe in extraterrestrials.
I honestly thought putting my thoughts down on paper would make everything clearer, but it actually just made things more confusing. 😵

Did I really say those two groups were out of their minds?
Nah, I don't have the answers.
Still at it.
Go ahead and Google it:
So, I was reading up on schizophrenia symptoms the other day. It’s heavy stuff. It isn't just one thing; it's more like this weird, messy spectrum of how the brain processes reality. You've got the "positive" symptoms—which sounds funny because they aren't actually good—like hallucinations where you're seeing or hearing things that just aren't there, or delusions where you're convinced of stuff that makes zero sense to anyone else. Then there's the "negative" side, which is more about things being stripped away—losing interest in life, feeling totally numb, or just struggling to find the energy to even talk. It can be pretty overwhelming to wrap your head around.
So, talking about bipolar symptoms... it’s not just "mood swings." People think it’s like being happy one minute and sad the next, but that’s not really how the madness works. It's more like living on two different planets. On one side, you've got the manic stuff. It’s not just feeling good; it’s feeling invincible. You might stay up until 4 AM tearing apart a DIY project or suddenly decide you're going to start a tech startup in Austin overnight. Your brain feels like it has fifty tabs open and they're all playing different songs at full volume. You spend money you don't have, talk a mile a minute, and feel like you're finally seeing the world in high definition while everyone else is stuck in black and white. Then there's the crash. The depressive side isn't just being "bummed out." It’s heavy. It’s like walking through waist-deep mud every single day. You lose interest in everything—even the stuff you usually love, like watching the game or grabbing a burger with friends. Everything feels gray, exhausting, and totally pointless. It’s a wild ride, and honestly, it's pretty draining when you're stuck in the middle of it.
A psychotic break.
So, what exactly is a delusion?
And we'll talk then. 🙂
