Maya's little adventures in San Francisco feel like they’re being played out from some twisted script written by Miljenko Smoje.
Someone really ought to turn this into a movie one day...
Pure parody ☕

Yeah. A lot of people don't even see anything wrong with this whole circus.
Honestly, anyone who had the chance to take advantage and didn't is just a fool...
That’s just the classic American narrative...☕

Emily Smith6 said:The City Council just pushed through that resolution regarding the proposed "singles hotel," and apparently, the residents were so thrilled about it that they were practically hugging the officials. It’s quite the scene.

The City Council just reached a unanimous decision regarding the property over on 81st Street. For those tenants who qualify under the protected rent provisions, their lease rates will be set to match current standards. We’re also looking at reviewing the specific requirements for contract addendums to ensure we can offer indefinite terms, provided there are clearly defined termination clauses in place. On top of that, the Department of Public Works has been tasked with coordinating with Exelon to handle the utility reclassification, effectively switching the electricity rates from industrial back to residential. The goal is to have all the groundwork completed by the end of June, which should hopefully allow tenants to start signing their new contract addendums starting July 1st.

A group of rather enthusiastic residents were seen practically hugging the lead official after he fought tooth and nail to get this specific issue onto the City Council agenda.

It seems someone is feeling quite proud of themselves.

The first item on today’s City Council agenda—specifically regarding the residents over at 81 Main Street—has finally wrapped up. They've reached a decision that should, in theory, protect the rights of everyone living there.
The conclusions essentially boil down to a few key changes regarding existing contracts. Starting July 1st, we’re looking at those agreements being converted to indefinite terms. There's also a plan to lower rent for those qualifying under social assistance categories, along with a reduction in electricity costs for tenants—specifically by shifting them from industrial rates over to standard residential pricing.
Once today's conclusions are actually carried out, I suppose we might finally be able to say that the rights of the residents in this building—which has been built and maintained through decades of their own hard work and contributions—will truly be protected. Maybe then, they’ll actually be able to live their lives with a bit more peace and security.
I feel a certain sense of pride seeing that our advocacy over the last few months has actually paid off. It looks like we might finally be able to settle this issue once and for all. I suppose the residents over at 81 Main Street truly earned this win; after all, it’s really on all of us to ensure that citizens aren't left stranded in some sort of legal limbo through no fault of their own. Helping people secure their basic stability should be a given, I guess.

The Republican Party in San Francisco.

Thanks to the persistent efforts of our City Council members and our Vice President, we’ve finally secured some resolutions that should protect the rights of the residents over at 81 El Paso in the long run.

If the opposition hadn't dragged this matter before the City Council, I suspect we wouldn't be seeing any resolution at all. It’s honestly a bit baffling why this wasn't addressed much sooner; it almost makes it seem as though the opposition were the ones who actually stepped up to get things sorted out.

I guess Đerek just has way too much on her plate right now... and unfortunately, she hasn't figured out how to clone herself yet so she can tackle everything at once......☕

What’s happening here in San Francisco is just surreal. And honestly? A little scary to watch.
It hits me hard thinking about how much money—probably hundreds of billions over the last thirty years—has just vanished through sheer incompetence at the federal level.
🤦

Gross.

So he didn't win him over? He just bought him off for pennies on the dollar because he's a war veteran??🤔
I honestly had no idea...

That Republican Drake guy, Primrose, managed to grab a 75m2 city apartment for only $50,000. 🤦

Then there's the Republican Party's John Boozman, who got a 73m2 place for just $8,000. 🤦

What a total joke of a list ...

John McCain really lived an incredible life. I mean, I swallowed everything he ever wrote or recorded about his adventures... and honestly, I just don't get why a world-class figure like him would sell his soul to politics, especially when it involves being tied to a compromised mess like the Republican Party at every single level. 🤦

Keith Martin7 said:If we're talking about dollars, they didn't blow more than 70 bucks total, $6.25 which works out to over $87 per person. Personally, I grab a decent lunch at Panera for $40 all the time.

And another thing: they claim "the meal was eaten during a break in the City Council session."
There are about 30 Councilmen on the board, so how in the world can it be "no more than 70 people" at lunch?

God, the sheer corruption, the stealing, the greed... I don't know about you guys, but I'm just sick of this filth leaking out every single day. And when you think about how many cities, towns, counties, mayors, and all those political bureaucrats and various little officials we have... multiply that by thirty years of this whole system existing...
What on earth have we been funding all these years....

I don't know who Anthony is, but if you're thinking about taking out Maya and scattering her everywhere... honestly, you'd need at least a dozen of them just in Washington, D.C. alone...☕
Eric Adams - Mayor of San Francisco in Political Scene ·
I can't help but think... this is just typical San Diego.
And where are all the other cities? Where is Washington, D.C.? I’d honestly bet that if Maja gave everything a good shake, we'd find out billions just leaked away through this whole system of handing out favors to anyone who claims to be "one of us."

I was just thinking about this earlier today... It’s funny how things work out sometimes. You know? Just one of those random realizations that hits you out of nowhere... anyway...
I guess I'm just checking in... nothing much going on here... just hanging out... anyway... mellowseal1 says:
Who actually signed off on that fine or the inspection report? There’s gotta be some local San Francisco name on that signature line...
Honestly, whoever that guy is, he deserves a massive thank you... seriously, we owe him big time. 🤣 Even the most aggressive PR firms in the country couldn't pull off a promotion this intense... Not even with a full team of paid lobbyists on the payroll...
I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that! It looks like you might have sent a typo or just a fragment... could you try again? I'm all ears!
🤣
Total amateurs... 😵

The Republican Party and their unnamed US person lackeys are scrambling everywhere. Milina 😍

Nobody is taking them down quite like that unnamed US politician and his crew...

Not everyone in the Waste Management strike group wants in: 'We don't want to help serve the private interests of a few violent slackers'

unnamed US person:
'Most demands have been met, and we distance ourselves from any potential unrest or public pressure.'

Waste Management employees understand how much they earn and the weight of their responsibilities, especially with the start of the tourist season. They refuse to get dragged into serving the private agendas of a handful of violent slackers within Waste Management, and they are distancing themselves from any chaos or public pressure being orchestrated by a small group of agitators for this Wednesday.

I honestly can't remember if anyone in the history of the USA or our democratic multi-party system has ever taken a hit quite like this from an unnamed US politician. I really don't recall... 🕺

It looks like a total war has broken out in San Diego. They aren't holding anything back. Man, imagine how crazy it feels to be in power, living the high life, and then suddenly losing it all like this...☕

As far as Joe goes as a salesman, I don't think there's any shame in it at all; if anything, it’s quite the opposite.
Then again, we don't really know for sure whether he was actually successful or not.

And honestly, who knows? Maybe he did. Back then, a thousand or two bucks felt like ten thousand dollars does today... those were tough times in the nineties, just trying to make ends meet every single day...
I really don't get why anyone would call that shameful. There's no shame in working, no matter what the job is.

I’m not sure who he was trying to impress, but honestly, everyone who owned a Kirby back then raved about them.
I couldn't swing it myself at the time (I just had the demo unit sitting in my living room!), and while I could afford one now, I'd much rather spend that cash on a trip to somewhere tropical...☕

I really have to hand it to Joe if he actually pulled that off back in the nineties—selling a vacuum for two thousand bucks! I still remember being absolutely floored when I heard the price tag...

Sanctions on Russia in War in Ukraine ·
Anthony Hill5 said:It is the central bank's assets held abroad that have been frozen, not those within Russia. This morning, the Central Bank burned through 7 billion dollars just to stabilize the Ruble. One has to wonder: how much longer can they sustain this before they completely exhaust the reserves they actually hold in Russia?

Honestly, today might be the worst day Russian finance has seen in decades.
Just heard it on RT...

copperstag95 said:Hello there, I actually recovered from my bout with it back in mid-November 2021.
Now, my little guy is showing symptoms; we have an official PCR test scheduled for this coming Friday, though his rapid home test came back negative.
Has anyone else here been in close contact with someone infectious shortly after they themselves had already cleared the virus?
According to the current guidelines, I don't technically need to isolate, and I'm not heading into the office anyway, but I suppose I wonder—did you all choose to self-isolate just in case, or did you mostly carry on with your lives, perhaps running errands while wearing a mask and such?

I'm a close contact.
Honestly, I'm just going about my business because there's nowhere to hide in this tiny little apartment of mine...
I'm working from home, even though the rules say I could technically head into the office.
My rapid test came back negative, so fingers crossed I can't catch it again.
And hopefully, I'll be back at work on Monday.

Yeah, thanks. All good.

nimbleranger17 said:I’ve already laid this out for you once before. Honestly, if someone has already gone through three rounds of vaccinations, there’s absolutely no reason they should be forced into isolation.

So, wait... that applies regardless of whether I'm considered a close contact or just some random guy who ran into them?
Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
nimbleranger17 said:Essentially, what this means for you is that you'll need to stay in self-isolation for an additional seven days, counting from the very moment the infected person is cleared to step out of their own isolation.

So, theoretically... could I catch it on the very last day while they're still stuck at home?
Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
Quick question about being a household contact—that’s my role here. I’ve had three shots and I'm testing negative with zero symptoms. At least, so far...
I'm honestly struggling to navigate this paperwork, though. There are seven freaking pages!
Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
Sorry if I'm sounding a bit lost here, everything feels like such a whirlwind of confusion right now...

I totally get what you're saying, but I was just reading this part
"If the patient and their household contacts can't be isolated from one another—like when parents are caring for a sick child, for example—then those household members have to quarantine for seven days once the patient meets all the requirements to end their isolation under the guidelines in section 3."

nimbleranger17 said:I basically laid it all out last night right here:

Look, if you aren't able to effectively quarantine, then the CDC guidelines dictate that the clock starts ticking from the very last day that infected person was out in the world.

Thanks, but some new rules just dropped today, dated January 31st.
Tonight.

I really need to apologize... I've been avoiding these COVID threads, the isolation stuff, the endless rules, because honestly, I am just totally over it... but now the situation is right at my front door... 🙄
So, basically, I have zero symptoms, can I head into work?
But according to these CDC guidelines, if I'm a household contact, I have to isolate for seven days... and then there’s this "Point 3" mentioned, which lists specific criteria the sick person has to meet... except I can't even find where that point is located in the text?! Wait, okay, I see it now, but I still don't get any of it!

These instructions are enough to drive you insane... pure schizophrenia!!!!
