According to CNN pit-lane reporter Adam Schefter, Williams technical chief Sam Michael Williams technical chief Michael confirmed that Renault, who supply Red Bull with their engines, currently run the most fuel-efficient unit on the grid, "followed by Mercedes and Ford, with Ferrari the thirstiest."

I thought you knew English. 🙂

🤣 It’s funny how the guy from Williams always seems to be the expert on fuel consumption and all that technical stuff. I mean, the man basically drives two Formula 1 cars to work every day.🤣
He clocks in at Red Bull in the morning, then heads home to Ferrari by the afternoon. 😂

Look, don't get me wrong—the guy might actually be right, and he’s probably a decent enough human being. But honestly? To my ears, it just sounds like a whole lot of nonsense, pretty much like what we hear from our own guys here.🤣

silvercobra68 said:Well, there you have it. Renault just got the green light to make changes, so expect absolute chaos. This is definitely going to play right into the hands of the guy behind the wheel.

fetla http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82246

Autosport just broke the news: Renault has been cleared to roll out a "massive" batch of engine upgrades. Apparently, they're doing it all in the name of cost-cutting and better reliability. Even though... The FIA just shut the door on any kind of power equalization for this season. Case closed..

What, is this supposed to be some kind of miracle? Like the spark plugs just aren't going to misfire anymore? Give me a break. 🤷

Unless they seriously step up the power, we’re looking at a massive deficit—and I mean a huge one. Besides, who actually believes Renault just suddenly cooked up something new? As if they'd start having more engine failures out of nowhere now. 😬

By the way, when it comes to fuel consumption, it’d only make sense if the thing with the least power was also the most efficient. 🤷

Maybe it’s actually best if Red Bull just stuffs an Opel diesel into their car🤣

Vettel isn't even in the top 50 fastest laps.

How is that weird? 🤷

Look at his top speed. It’s pathetic. It’s actually lower than basically all the new drivers and teams. 😲

I’m getting the feeling there was an engine issue from the very start, or maybe it's just the result of those last 15 laps. 🤷

But hey, finishing the race with the slowest car on the grid—without a single lap in the top 50 while sitting in 4th place—is truly priceless.😁

Second thing: you're forgetting who we're talking about. It's Alonso. He's easily the best driver on the grid right now.

🤣 Based on what? Alonso isn't any better than Michael Schumacher. Both had killer turbo cars and teammates who basically existed just to serve them. Sorry, but in my book, these guys are currently better:

Sebastian Vettel, Robert Kubica, Adrian Sutil, Lewis Hamilton

Maybe Nico Rosberg too, but we'll see about that.🤷

I can't wait for when Kubica starts winning in that "useless" General Motors car; I wonder what he'll be whining about then.

And there's a massive difference between being decent and being legendary. What is this Alonso guy supposed to be, some kind of alien?

Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, Mark Webber, and Michael Schumacher are all driving bumper-to-bumper the whole race, and Rosberg is clearly faster than Sebastian Vettel, yet he can't pass a car with an engine issue. But oh, sure, "alien" Alonso passes everyone without breaking a sweat.🙏

If I were a driver looking at offers from those three teams, I'd actually pick FI. They're making massive strides, even if the General Motors F1 Team is still my absolute favorite thing in existence

.

Yeah, Physics made a mistake so massive it’s almost unreal. Ferrari probably won't ever recover from this, honestly. And frankly, if Robert Kubica and Adrian Sutil hadn't collided at the start, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them ended up on the podium—or at least damn close to it👍.

I was really expecting Sauber to be that dark horse capable of snatching serious points away from the top four, but looking at how things are shaking out, it’s definitely Force India. Either way, glad for Sutil👍.

Cycles last years. Some are gold, some are absolute droughts.

I’m telling you, the Red Bull Racing-Vettel situation looks incredibly promising to me. I don't see any reason to start panicking (yet). He showed pure strength and power, and he definitely earned more respect in the process. At the very least, his market value just shot up.

And man, remember how rough it was for us Ferrari fans after that first race last year? You fight for the title three years straight, then suddenly the next season you're nothing—just a punching bag for all the haters. And yet, somehow, Kimi Räikkönen actually pulled off the win.

Kimi is a legend, no matter where he is or what car he's driving. 🙏🙏🙏

Just remember, even though I’ve never been a huge Ferrari guy, I was the one saying Kimi 🙏 would snatch the title in the final race. People actually told me I was talking nonsense. 😬

Even Felipe Massa, who I didn't care for much, is starting to impress me more and more. Honestly, for both Ferrari and its fans, it would be way better if he took the title. If you shut up about this "crybaby traitor" and he actually wins, people will be hailing Ferrari to the heavens—only to turn around and trash him even harder than their worst enemies in a couple of years. 👎

3. Vettel is arguably the hottest driver in Formula 1, which really makes me question your sexual orientation

Look, TBFD, what you're saying is fine—you've got the facts to back it up—but stop telling fairy tales. You have no way of knowing that General Motors's engine in the Red Bull will be the worst on the grid all season, and you definitely can't say with such certainty that Vettel is going to lose because of it. How do you know he won't drive a flawless season and then just DNF one race? Besides, he made plenty of mistakes last year. Or did you forget that?
And where are you getting this confidence that Massa is his biggest threat for the title?
Do you have some secret intel or something?

And you're talking nonsense too 🤣 Alonso could win a title. But only if he gets his head straight and accepts that he actually has a decent teammate. 😉

How do I not know? Right now, it's the worst, and it was close to being the worst last year too, especially since some people aren't around anymore. They're basically guaranteed last place. Don't be shocked if they pick up Cosworth or some other engine next season at the Renault F1 Team.🤣

As for Alonso, he isn't capable of driving for a team where the second driver is right on his heels. For now, it's 1-1. If Massa beats him in Australia, Ferrari falls apart and all kinds of dirty laundry gets dumped in the Spanish papers. I'd bet on Dario Argento and some juicy headlines.

Morgan Murphy7 said:Why is this TBFD guy talking nonsense?😍

What Massa? What Vettel? Let's get real, Alonso will stroll his way to a championship 🙏

I don't mind, as long as he does a lot of strolling along the track. 😬

Roger Wright94 said:So, basically, it's all General Motors's fault and Red Bull barely takes any blame.
I don't know about that.

We still have to see what happens with that General Motors engine down the road, right?!

Look, regardless of everything else, my take is that Vettel would've been better off staying at Toro Rosso if Gerhard Berger had stuck around. Honestly, the perfect setup would've been:

Horner and General Motors at Toro Rosso, while Berger and Ferrari handle Red Bull. If that happened, we'd be looking at:
A title for Vettel, a title for Red Bull, and they'd probably be fighting for the second championship this season without any real competition.

Joshua Newman2 said:Wanna bet on this one? 🙂

I've already got enough bets on the table 🤣

So I'll pass. Just don't forget that Massa isn't Piquet, and Alonso is basically just riding along with a decent teammate. It's easy to look like a superstar when you're surrounded by total nobodies and third-rate drivers. I won't be making much money off Massa, unless that breakdown in Massin's car was actually an inside job from the Ferrari's pit wall. 🤣

Maybe the mechanics saw the FIA on the track and instinctively hit a button labeled "Emergency Brake No. 2—for crying out loud." 🤣 You never know. 😬

Roger Wright94 said:Honestly, I think people are making way too much noise about one car having a technical glitch in a single race.
Everything is being blown out of proportion just because it's the season opener and the leader—who happens to be young, likable, and full of potential—Vettel, had bad luck.
We should probably wait until they get to Europe before we start drawing any massive conclusions.

Right now, it’s just a bad break, not a catastrophe.
If you want to talk about an actual tragedy, look at what happened to Lewis back in late 2007, or what the FIA dealt with at the end of 2006.

Give me a break. Vettel lost his title shot thanks to General Motors, and Formula 1 ended up with its worst champion ever—that useless Button. If it had been Rubens or Webber, maybe, but Button is a disaster. For me, General Motors deserves a lifetime ban from Formula 1 just for that.🙄

And you call this a "small bad break"?🤣
General Motors is constantly dealing with technical issues.

In Bahrain, Vettel's top speed was only 301, while Hamilton hit 314.8.http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre...-race-trap.pdf That gap of 8.7 miles/h isn't small; it's massive.😢

This isn't a tragedy for Vettel. At the end of the day, finishing 2nd, 3rd, or 4th under this new system is basically the same thing. You can make up a 2-4 point gap (6 points) easily with just one win.😉 A 1-2 finish (7 points) could even work in Ferrari's favor, especially for Massa. The real question is what's going on with that first engine swap (Alonso - Massa). If Massin's car also goes to hell—and clearly someone messed that up—then *that* would be a tragedy. You might get the first race handed to you on a silver platter, but if you burn through 3 out of 16 engines, you're screwed. Imagine if Massa had 18 races left and only 6 engines left? Now *that* would be a real disaster.
Here's one possible standing for Australia:
1 Vettel
2 Webber
3 Massa
4 Alonso

Points:
Alonso 37
Vettel 37
Massa 33

Personally, I think Massa is a much bigger threat than Alonso. I reckon the end-of-season ratio will favor Massa (or maybe slightly favor Alonso), whereas at Red Bull Racing, it'll be 19-0 for Vettel (unless he keeps crashing out). So, this race isn't such a huge handicap. The real issue is whatever happens with those General Motors engines later—not just regarding reliability, but their actual power.👎
2010 Bahrain Grand Prix in Formula 1 ·
slynomad32 said:Yeah, he caught him by less than a second (Fernando Alonso)

So what? Mark Webber spent the whole race trailing Button 9 by less than a second, even snagging three fastest laps, while Button 9 was about 0.5 seconds slower. What's the point?🤣

Besides, Alonso was hanging within 2-3 seconds of Sebastian Vettel the entire time—sometimes more, sometimes less. That doesn't mean anything regarding an overtake. To actually pass someone, you need to be significantly faster, like maybe 2 seconds per lap. Sebastian Vettel had one lap that was over 5 seconds slower than Alonso. If his car had been just 1.5 to 2 seconds off instead of 5—roughly how he was running after 10 laps when Rosberg was trying to catch him—would Alonso have even stood a chance? Maybe. But Felipe Massa definitely wouldn't have.😉

Without that mechanical failure, the theory falls apart. Sadly, that’s just how racing looks today. For anyone to actually pass someone on track, they basically need:

- a massive driving error
- completely shredded tires
- a mechanical breakdown
- a momentary lapse in concentration while lapping backmarkers
- a much slower car

Unfortunately, under normal conditions, the top four teams—maybe even more—don't really have a shot at passing each other on track.

At the end of the day, it's nothing new. It was the same in previous seasons, except back then they could occasionally make a move with a blistering lap right before or after a pit stop. Now? You can forget about that.👎

If something doesn't change drastically, this is going to be a painfully boring season.

Nothing we were actually expecting has happened so far.😢

- No one ran out of fuel (wasn't even close)
- No one had tire failures or major rubber issues
- No one struggled with a heavy fuel load (no one went wide)

All in all, it's a total snooze fest.👎

slynomad32 said:Something's definitely off with you.😕

Always has been. 😬

Look, I hate Ferrari. Kill me now if you must. 🤣

Look, saying Fernando Alonso could outpace Sebastian Vettel is just straight-up nonsense. Honestly, I can barely find the words to describe how ridiculous that takes.🤣

To pull that off, he’d need to be about two seconds faster per lap just to catch up. That’s basically impossible unless Sebastian Vettel makes a massive mistake or his car completely gives up on him. Everything else is just nonsense. Even Rosberg was 1.5 seconds faster per lap and still couldn't touch Sebastian Vettel—especially since his car was struggling on the straights. So, how exactly is Alonso going to make it happen? Explain that to me, assuming Vettel's car was actually running normally.😕

slynomad32 said:Can someone please explain how the Italians actually managed to put this car together?
If I remember correctly, once the Italians take the lead, they spend the next 10 years cleaning up their mess.
It was painful to watch the whole time.🤮>

>

And yet, here we are, waiting for the inevitable follow-up post. 😬>

Regardless of Sebastian Vettel's engine issues—whether General Motors fixes them or just leaves us hanging—🙂>

if Sebastian Vettel doesn't snag the title because his car is falling apart, it’ll go to Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton.🤔>

Ferrari is just swapping engines and calling it a day. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz is clearly leagues ahead of everyone else. Plus, McLaren will definitely step it up in the USA. Once the Las Vegas Grand Prix kicks off, expect Ferrari to settle for 6th or 8th place—which is exactly where they belong.😳>

slynomad32 says:
If Sebastian Vettel’s engine hadn't died, Fernando Alonso would have smoked him on track. You could see he was getting faster and closing the gap. Sure, the tires take a beating and he had to retire, but you'd have to be crazy not to think he would've made a move in those last 9 laps. That would've been a real show. Too bad I missed out on that.
That would've been a hell of a spectacle, and I'm bummed I didn't see what happened next.😉
Yeah, right. Like Alonso was anything close to catching him. 🙄

http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre...e-analysis.pdf>

It's pretty obvious Sebastian Vettel's car gave up the ghost on lap 33. Up until then, Felipe Massa was basically just as fast as Alonso and Sebastian. Maybe Alonso would've had trouble with Massa if his car hadn't started dying too. Our "genius" driver had more luck than brains; somehow winning with two half-broken cars and a significantly slower Lewis Hamilton trailing behind is some serious science.

Arthur Roberts12 said:I'm just saying this only happens to him, even though there are 4 cars on the track running a Renault engine.

It doesn't feel like a coincidence to me anymore.

Of course it isn't a coincidence.☕

First off, when Nelson Piquet's engine actually failed...🤣
that guy either hit a wall or spun out, or he was basically driving at half throttle the whole race.🙄They could have slapped a lawnmower engine in his car and he wouldn't have had any issues.😂
Second, if I remember correctly, Mark Webber's engines used to blow—not during the race, but during practice sessions.

Unless this whole thing is actually a setup to trip up Ferrari since they can't touch Mercedes. It’s not impossible that Renault cooked up this mess on purpose just to force the FIA to let them tweak the engine and boost power. Because looking at how things are going, it's highly likely Renault will soon be the worst engine on the grid. Cosworth isn't even that bad; who knows, they might actually be better than Renault.
🤦

Summing it all up:
http://www.formula1.com/results/seas...test_laps.html
4x Mercedes, 4x Ferrari, 1x Red Bull Renault, 1x Cosworth
all within the top 10 fastest cars.

Even both Force Indies and both STRs have better lap times than Renault, and that's with Robert Kubica in one of them.
😉
On top of that, besides Sebastian Vettel's car, as far as I know, only two more Renaults finished the race, and only one of those made it into the points in 8th place—and that specific car was smoking dangerously right at the start.
😢
All in all, Renault is trash again. At this rate, they'll be the worst engine on the grid this season.
The glory days and great engines are clearly long gone for Renault. Instead of learning a thing or two from Lada or Dacia, it looks like those guys taught Renault how to build absolute junk.

Poor Kubica. He'd probably have a better shot at winning a race in an FI or STR than in a Renault.👎

😢

Renault's breaking down again.
Nobody's even looking at Renault or Red Bull. ☕

God, they’re just that good. They’ll probably stick a Lada engine in a Renault and suddenly Robert Kubica will win the championship.

Renault is a joke.👎

Joshua Rivera56 said:Red Bull didn't learn a single damn thing all last season.
I have no clue who actually made the call on the engine. They should've ditched Renault and given Christian Horner a massive thank you while they were at it. Instead, half the pit wall is just sitting there looking green. That statement from the race engineer today? Total street gossip. You just don't say stuff like that during a race.
What's Gerhard Berger up to?

Honestly, if you’re asking me who I'd bet my money on for the 2010 championship, I'm still sticking with Vettel. Sure, Alonso could be a massive threat if he manages to pull ahead in the points during these first five or six races, but my money stays put.

Let's just wait for Europe; things will definitely be cooking by then.

Unfortunately, it's the absolute truth.👎

It’s pretty sad, but this season is basically over for Vettel. 😢

18 races—7 engines already. We're in deep trouble.😢

If Mathesic actually had any sense, they should have bought Force India and offloaded Renault onto them, then snagged Mercedes for Red Bull. ☕
