What the hell is an excavator even doing on the track during a race?! Those machines always rubbed me the wrong way; I always had this nagging feeling it was going to happen eventually. Tracks should have cranes ready to lift cars out, not some random excavator driving around. If they can't do it without an excavator, then there has to be a Safety Car. Period.

Spot on... the real issue is failing to deploy the Safety Car in time.
It’s not about the rain or anything else—the second Nico Sutil went off, the Safety Car needed to be out on the track immediately.
Honestly, it would've been better if the car just stayed right where it crashed instead of trying to drag it out like that. A hit to a stationary car wouldn't have been nearly as devastating as slamming into that hunk of junk being moved.

From what I gathered, the hospital is about 40 miles from the track. That’s an eternity in an ambulance, even if you’re cruising down an empty stretch of highway like a deserted interstate in the Midwest. Imagine trying that on the heavy traffic roads they definitely have in the USA...

Ted is saying the helicopter took off right after the ambulance left—basically at the same time. So, the idea is they could have flown sooner if they hadn't been tied up with medical stuff in the ambulance. 😕
It seems pretty sketchy to suggest an ambulance, which is obviously way slower, would be a better bet than a helicopter. 🤷

Vettel is almost definitely looking at a penalty. If his turbo or MGU-H gives out, that’s six penalties right there, so he might as well just count them now...
