Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
Larry Lewis said:I honestly can't wrap my head around why there's such a massive stigma attached to schizophrenia when, frankly, the prognosis for recovery is actually quite promising. In my personal estimation—and I've seen enough to say this—borderline personality disorder is far more taxing than schizophrenia.

Just let it go, Jeremy... we live in Washington, D.C.; imagine if we were stuck in some tiny, isolated rural town in the middle of nowhere. We'd never hear the end of it.

It’s probably because in American crime shows, someone with schizophrenia kills ten people and instead of being found not guilty by reason of insanity, they just end up serving life in a mental institution.

Fine. Let's say not everyone carries a stigma regarding schizophrenia. But we're still talking about 99% of the population.

So, I’m actually writing this on behalf of a wonderful woman in her 30s who told me she's just "exhausted by this way of life"... and let me tell you, when a 30-year-old says she's hit her limit, you know things are serious.
I recently got close to her family, and it didn't take me long at all to realize that she has absolutely zero support or understanding from the people around her.
She’s dealing with schizophrenia and is refusing to take her medication... I won't get into all the messy details of what's going on here, but I wanted to ask if there are any support systems available in the greater Los Angeles area?? Like an association, a group, anything... just so she can realize she isn't alone in this fight...

A support system? Just move all the Americans to another country and settle some sane people here instead. 🙂

Oh, really? Well, there's no rush. We'll come up with something 🙂

Kudos to Carl Rivera43 for stepping up and making the first move—it’s really great seeing everyone hanging out like this.😍

See how sharp I am? 😎

Let's say Saturday, November 15th. Who's actually down to head out for the night?
Why do we feel the need to hide our emotions? in Psychology ·
You let your guard down and show a little emotion, and suddenly everyone's looking at you like you've lost your mind.

So, you just stop showing anything at all. Always.🙂

When a patient is being treated with antipsychotics, their thought processes might certainly slow down, yet they remain entirely capable of reasoning.

Furthermore, if they aren't on medication, their thoughts may instead become intensely focused on their delusions, or perhaps manifest through various "formal" thought disorders—such as tangentiality, viscous thinking, incoherent speech, or flight of ideas, among others.

Exactly. They’re drifting toward your delusions and absolutely nothing else.

I think it's "just" stress and an overactive imagination. With schizophrenia, I believe the voices say things that feel personal, whereas with this, you're aware it's just your own thought.

With schizophrenia, you aren't even capable of thinking about anything at all.

So, what’s the move for Tuesday?

Carl Rivera43 said:We should probably get something on the calendar for a Friday or Saturday soon. We just need to figure out what kind of vibe the crew is feeling.

Gerald Torres2 doesn't have any transit options near her place, and Altec isn't really into those massive, crowded parties.

We'll have to find somewhere else.

Just sipping coffee and chewing over whatever happens to be trending.

Carl Rivera43, let's grab a drink one night and actually have some fun. What do you think? Anyone else in?

This whole bit about being the "former president of the Human Rights Campaign" seems to imply he’s an ex-official now, rather than addressing the fact that, from what I can gather, he committed these crimes while he was actually serving as an LGBT representative.

For some reason, there isn't a massive amount of news coverage about this online, though I did manage to find a Swedish site with some specific details, even if the translation is just a rough Google job.

This is the organization he used to lead:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish...sgender_Rights

I honestly don't understand why everyone keeps bringing up the idea that "anyone who blames this on the whole LGBT community is an idiot" or mentioning the Church; perhaps it's just some kind of instinctive defensive reflex, but as far as I can see, nobody in this thread has accused the entire LGBT community, nor has anyone been talking about the Church.

The situation is quite straightforward, really: an official from an organization talks about tolerance and lectures us on how closed-minded we are, while on the flip side, he is committing rape and child abuse.

To me, it is perfectly clear why he exploited one specific group of people for his own personal gain—through both theft and assault—but I fail to see why you all feel the need to drag the entire homosexual community into this when you tell your story.

Everyone here was more than ready to condemn the man himself, yet almost immediately, you all tried to mitigate the damage to the organization by weaving all homosexuals into the narrative.

Not a single one of you has condemned the organization itself!

An organization is only liable if they had knowledge of criminal activity and failed to report it to the authorities.

Douglas King8 said:Hey everyone. I figured I’d jump in here since this seems to be the most active thread regarding schizophrenia. I'm looking for some perspective or maybe just some advice.
So, for about a year now, insomnia has been my shadow. It takes me anywhere from two to three hours just to drift off. I’ve tried the whole "exhaust yourself" routine at the local Gold's Gym, sat through sessions with a psychologist, and even tried taking some Xanax for a bit, but nothing sticks. Back in the summer, when I was running on total fumes, I’d pass out pretty quick. Now? I’m getting maybe five to seven hours, and I’m waking up constantly in the middle of the night. I spend the next day looking like a zombie with dark circles under my eyes, though weirdly enough, I don't feel physically drained.
The insomnia comes with a side of mental noise. When I finally hit the pillow and close my eyes, desperate to pass out, my brain just starts racing. And I don't mean "thinking about my to-do list" racing—it's different. These aren't thoughts I'm consciously projecting. It’s more like words and sentences just... dropping into my head. They don't connect to anything. I can actually hear them in my mind. I’d break them down into three buckets:
1. Random words that just pop in, totally out of nowhere and without any rhyme or reason.
2. Strings of words or disjointed sentences that float by right before I manage to fall asleep. These get particularly intense if I wake up in the middle of the night, but they always seem to subside enough for me to drift off again.
3. Sentences or thoughts that feel like they’re being spoken by people I actually know—like a coworker using their specific inflection to say, "That's how you do it!" Or, it's like hearing a snippet of dialogue from a TV show or pulling a single sentence out of a book without the context. Just a fragment hanging there.
Honestly, the thoughts aren't terrifying in themselves. If it's just a few sentences, I usually ride the wave and fall asleep. But if it's just those random words, I stay wide awake.
The sensation when this happens is similar to being in a trance or a semi-dream state, except it feels like one part of my consciousness is generating these thoughts while another part is just standing there, watching them happen in parallel.
I am fully aware that these aren't real. They only happen late at night right before bed or first thing in the morning when I wake up; during the day, everything is quiet. Still, it’s messing with my head.
A few months ago, my psychiatrist told me these are hypnagogic hallucinations—stuff that happens right on the edge of sleep. Apparently, not everyone experiences them, but I'm worried because they seem to be getting more intense lately.
The hardest part is trying to explain what they actually sound like.
While it's happening, I feel like I'm dreaming while still being awake. Part of my mind tracks the thoughts, and then once they pass, I snap back to full awareness and start analyzing them—which makes me wonder how I even thought of them in the first place. Then I forget them and try to go back to sleep, and the whole cycle repeats until I finally crash.
For instance, while trying to drift off, the word "pride" just flashed in my mind. Or, I’ll clearly hear a friend's voice saying, "Look at these stairs."
I've already booked another appointment with my doctor because I'm genuinely spooked.
Can anyone tell me if this is a symptom of schizophrenia? It's starting to really scare me.
Thanks for listening. 🙂

No.

They’ve got their own little "gods." They cling to this idea that a better life is coming, even though it's never actually happening in this lifetime. They’ve got their martyrs, their extremists, and their victims. Honestly, this whole religion? It doesn't look any different from any other one out there.

An ideology is just a religion, and a religion is just an ideology.

It means you aren't actually a Christian; you're just some high-society socialite. 😁Christians don't really exist—there are only the salon dwellers. 😁
