I’ve been spinning them almost every night before bed for the last month, even if it's just one or two tracks to drift off to. It's like I knew they were coming. I caught them at Terrane back in 2011, but I wasn't really a fan back then, so I didn't quite feel it. Now? I can't wait. For some reason, I've had 'Basic Space' on repeat lately; it just hits right.
They're wonderful, truly 🙂 😍

Listened to the album on my commute today. It didn't really click for me. Like someone else already pointed out, there’s just way too much autotune and extra stuff. Lots of static and some screeching noises, too. I’ll give it one more spin, but honestly, Justin Vernon and I only seem to be on the same wavelength when it comes to Emma. Feels like he’s trying a bit too hard.

I’m big on healthy eating—currently working my way through some poached halibut, sautéed spinach, and potato salad :mljac:—so I don't exactly crave junk food every single day. That said, I’ll still indulge once in a while if the mood strikes. Let's be real.
Not sure how to put this... personally, I think having kids is a total nightmare 😁
It’s just constant psychological warfare, and honestly, I don't know how anyone handles it.
Look, cutting back on sugar and carbs makes sense (I do it too), but spending your entire day obsessing over a Snickers bar while you're stuck eating low-fat cottage cheese and tuna (okay, maybe a bit dramatic, but probably accurate 😬) sounds like pure misery to me 😁
But hey, whatever. I’ll stick to my bacon, and you can go ahead and try to shave off that last 8% body fat in a month 🙂

Isn't dextrose only worth it if you're planning on hitting the protein right after?

Just a random thought here... 😁 Honestly, I don't really obsess over this stuff and I don't bother with supplements (though I'm definitely not sweating glucose when I can just grab some raisins instead), mostly because I try to stick to a decent, varied diet.

The only thing I take is magnesium. 🙂

At the end of the day, I think listening to your own body is what actually matters. 🧐 🤣

I mean... if you want to eat a ton of fruit, just eat the fruit. 😁 Like I did this morning—a banana, a handful of blackberries, some currants, more blackberries, and a little organic apple. 😁 😍

Andrew Gomez40 said:Look, don't get mad. I'm really not trying to be difficult or start an argument here, but the control comes BEFORE the bridge. Or rather, the bridge happens AFTER the control. But you're a woman, so I'll let your lack of spatial awareness slide 🤣 (just kidding 😁 ))

blah 😬

Hannah Collins48 said:Death Cab for Cutie actually surprised me; they were great. La Roux was good too. . 👍

I thought La Roux was terrible. She kept howling like a broken record. Just awful. Honestly, she feels totally irrelevant to the music scene now, especially going solo.

Placebo felt "so 2001" to me. I mean... the only festival where they could actually headline is Coachella. They were okay, nothing special or groundbreaking. Their new stuff is just bland. They aren't a significant band anymore.

As for Of Monsters and Men... I was looking forward to them, but I found myself yawning through the set. It was boring. Turns out they're just too pathetic and pretentious to me. Kind of... childish. Nothing special. And they probably got a killer time slot, while somewhere else, Brakes is playing at 6:45.

All in all... the festival was alright. Mostly because of that first day. The lineup felt pretty thin, and most of these acts have already toured the US—there wasn't a real headliner in sight. I'm not even counting Rudimental; they could only headline Coachella... at any other festival, they'd be playing at 4 PM. Don't get me wrong, they weren't bad. But it felt more like watching a high-end tribute band since they usually collaborate with other artists.

The mud on the second day was disgusting. There were actual swamps forming in front of the main stage. They really should have done something about that. Not everyone wants to spend their weekend wading through sludge and getting covered in dirt from head to toe like some people did.

The smallest slice of pizza at one of the stands was $6.75. Unbelievable. But hey, nobody's forcing you to buy it.

Overall... it was a mediocre experience.
Andrew Gomez40 said:I'm not trying to be a smartass here, I'm just saying the bridge comes after the security sweep—meaning, once you're actually inside the festival grounds. Because getting through those gates is the real screening process.
Just because you managed to pull it off doesn't mean everyone else will have the guts. Honestly, I have no idea how they even let you through the door.

Either you're talking about that bridge over by the University Island campground, or you're confused. Because that definitely isn't the entrance to the festival.

So, you just head straight through the main entrance. Most people end up tying their fairy lights to the trees right after you walk in, though some folks stash them by the security checkpoint near the bridge before they even get through. I actually saw a couple of people trying to roll bikes right into the middle of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last night... honestly, I have no idea how security let that slide. Anyway, you can probably find a spot to park once you pass the main gate or just before you hit that checkpoint by the bridge.

Thomas Long7 said:Can I just snip those little extra strips off the ends of the wristband? They’re getting caught on everything while I'm working and it's driving me absolutely insane. I don't want some security guard at the gate giving me grief tomorrow claiming it's "damaged" or whatever.🤔

Whatever. 😉 People are alright. 😉

Yesterday at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was actually brilliant. I knew what I was getting into, though, considering Frank Turner and Paolo Nutini were on the lineup. Frank Turner started way earlier than he should have, which felt a bit unearned, but man, the crowd was massive regardless. That guy really knows how to set a mood. You can tell he isn't just going through the motions to finish a set; he actually puts in the work to make you feel like you matter. 🙂He was even messing around with some American slang, speaking the language pretty well, too. He actually pulled off reading whatever someone had scribbled on his guitar strap. 😁 You can't not appreciate that.
He pulled that same old squatting joke again at Photoshyntesis... but whatever, it was still a good time. 😉 Mostly, yesterday was the best show I've seen in a while, though I guess I still care more about Paolo Nutini since his music is on constant rotation for me. 🙂 His show was killer too. Honestly, he sounds way better live than he does on a recording. The setlist was spot on for me. I see some people were bored, though...
Frank Turner didn't go overboard with the crowd interaction, but he did stop a few times to acknowledge how they were reacting. It didn't come off as fake or like he was just feeding his own ego, either.
I went straight to see Future Islands right after his set, and honestly? They were just okay. I got into it for a bit, but eventually, the boredom just kind of set in. To be fair, I probably should have moved on to Florence + The Machine immediately. The crowd was insane there—everyone had already packed in by the time we showed up, so we ended up stuck way in the back because I really wasn't in the mood to fight through a mosh pit. Still, even from the back, it was a killer experience. I bet those people in the front row had an absolute blast. Anyway... Day one was great. It’ll probably end up being the best day of the whole thing, too. There were so many people out there; I don't think I've ever seen a first day this crowded. Today, though, it's raining again. Typical. 😁

Just throwing some good vibes out there from my end 😛

P. S. My sisters and I managed to snag three festival passes for $167! Total win.
Andrew Gomez40 said:Look, if you can't get into the festival, you aren't getting near the bridge inside the grounds either.

I don't know why you're trying to be smart with me. I already told you I left my bracelets tied to the fence by the bridge back during the last—actually, maybe even the one before that—festivals. And I wasn't the only one.
swiftmoose20 said:Who actually gives a damn about Florence when you’ve got Placebo or Frank Turner on the lineup? They'd eat her alive.
You guys are getting exhausting with this lady. Either go to the festival or don't. Just drop it. Honestly, it's all just smoke and mirrors anyway.

Frank is great, though... I saw him a few years back and he really knows how to set the mood. He even made an effort to learn some American slang and stuff. 🙂

Casey Ramos78 said:Random off-topic question: can you bring a bike in? I haven't been to many festivals yet, so just wondering.

No bikes allowed at the festival. I'd probably just tie mine up to a bridge near the security checkpoint.
Susan Ward23 said:If you get that, then why are you dragging Coachella through the mud? Coachella isn't the one at fault here. By "conspiracy theories," I mean people claiming Florence never even agreed to play at Coachella and that the organizers just used her name as bait to sell tickets. Obviously, they don't want bad PR. Who does? 😬

But honestly, the constant whining from people who clearly didn't realize a concert can just get canceled at the last second and fall apart... it's exhausting. It’s the same deal with refunds, too—people who won't bother reading what's actually printed on their ticket. 😬

I'm dragging Coachella because they weren't transparent about this. They lied, they're deleting people's comments regarding the issue, and they're twisting her statement. But I guess you don't find any of that problematic.

Personally, she wasn't even my top pick for Coachella, so I'm not losing sleep over her not showing up.
But man, this kind of management and manipulation—and you actually call this professionalism? Give me a break. If we talked about Coachella's "professionalism" all day, we'd be here until tomorrow. Just look at how they treat volunteers...
Since you don't mind that kind of behavior, there's really nothing left to talk about.
Andrew Gomez40 said:The guy is fine, I guess, but he just didn't blow me away. He’s not really headliner material. It feels like the UK media is just overhyping him into some massive superstar.

In this instance, the hype train is definitely running ahead of the actual talent.😁
Even iTunes called his album the best US release of 2014.
I think the new Death Cab for Cutie record holds its own against their older stuff. Personally, I’ve always found them a bit too sappy, so I wasn't holding my breath. It’s actually a pretty sharp observation to say they've just become a regular band rather than "the" band.

It honestly sucks how much Bruno Mars gets overlooked by audiences here. He’s out there with a relatively fresh album that's been getting killer reviews. The New York Times gave him a solid 4/5.
Andrew Gomez40 said:Even if she technically screwed up, it doesn't really change much for us—the organizer is the one at fault here. It’s on them to have someone else lined up BEFORE they announce a headliner. Announcing next year's lineup already feels like a joke.
By the time they realize they should've just grown some balls and told the truth, it'll be too late. The festival will be dead.

Yeah, she definitely messed up... But if the organizers had just been straight with us, it would've been different. Like, "Look, Florence Nightingale canceled because she didn't want to play Coachella, or maybe she agreed and then realized the pay was too low..." Fine. Whatever. We'd take that. But this constant runaround? It’s driving me crazy.
Susan Ward23 said:just listen to how she says "this weekend." You can tell she’s totally unsure of herself. It’s glaringly obvious she doesn't actually know where or when she was supposed to perform. If she had made that video for some other festival, people would have already called her out on which one.

I’d say she screwed over the crowds in Florence before I’d blame Coachella. As for them deleting comments—honestly, I don't see the big deal. I assume they're just fed up with everyone talking trash... from the people demanding refunds to the ones spinning conspiracy theories.

Conspiracy theories? Give me a break. She probably bailed on Coachella because she didn't like the contract terms, or maybe she just didn't feel like showing up to an American festival when she could be prepping for Glastonbury instead. Her leg is fully healed anyway; otherwise, she wouldn't be bouncing around from festival to festival like this.
Anyway... the whole thing lacks any transparency. Coachella is scrubbing comments because they can't handle the bad PR. They even cut ties with Rolling Stone US and their local music partners.
Honestly, it’s just pathetic how they sold this whole "emergency surgery" narrative. It’s total nonsense. There’s no surgery, no cast being removed, nothing.
Facebook wiped all my comments on this topic. Which is even more depressing, right? I can see my own stuff, but nobody else can. Just another way to manipulate people's perception of reality.
I would have respected them more if they just said she needed more money than they had, or that she canceled because of X or Y. But spinning this story about needing surgery on the exact same day as Coachella is just moronic.
Then they go ahead and post that damn video on their YouTube channel, claiming it’s an update for Coachella fans. It’s painfully obvious it isn't even an update for Coachella; it’s clearly for some other festival where she actually *was* getting a cast removed or whatever. Look, I get it—it’s easy to lose track of tour dates and schedules, but you can't be that lost. They wrote "this weekend," but the show isn't even for another month. It's literally four weeks away.
Man... I'm just disappointed. Between the comment deletions and being blocked from commenting on YouTube... it's gross.
I'm curious how Coachella plans on explaining this one.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...-festival.html

Looks like Florence doesn't actually need surgery during Coachella after all. She’s fully recovered and bouncing around at shows again..

Btw.. three comments about this got nuked from Facebook!
After Adele, my only real concern is making sure Bruno Mars doesn't flake on us.
I've already seen all the other artists I actually like live.
Robin Turner27 said:it doesn't matter if they're indie 😁 Adele is mainstream. She’s on the radio constantly and people actually listen. Most of the other artists just aren't hitting the mark 😁

As for that whole refund thing—if I were running Coachella, I wouldn't even bother replying to you. I honestly have no clue what kind of logic you're using there. 😁

Wait, what? That last part was a stretch.

Bruno Mars gets played on the radio too. Quite a bit, actually, especially on the big national stations. Personally, I enjoy his stuff way more than Adele or Machine Gun Kelly, who both fell off.
OK Computer also gets airplay despite not being mainstream... A few of their tracks are totally overplayed: Seven Nation Army or Hey Ya!, for example.
It’s pretty ridiculous to me that a one-day pass is $100, yet a three-day ticket jumps all the way to 350...

Honestly, I just find it hilarious watching the people who bought a full festival pass just to see one specific act, only for that artist to cancel. Now they're standing around looking completely clueless, wondering why nobody is handing them their money back for the whole weekend.

And look, you can't really blame anyone else—you're on your own here. It says right there in plain English that festival passes are non-refundable. If you don't want it, sell it. Simple as that.

Actually... it also trips me out how nobody seems to care about any of the other performers. Like, at all? Especially since most of the lineup is indie anyway.
The first day is usually the peak anyway. Especially now that Flo Rida isn't on the lineup.
Nutini’s going to be my festival highlight. I’ve actually got pretty high hopes for him. 🎉
