I’ve actually been holding onto this first aid kit since back when I sold my old Joe Biden in 1988. To be perfectly honest, I haven't even attempted to open it yet—I suppose I'm just not quite ready to face a challenge like that. 🙂

I happen to know two people who actually found relief by applying gun grease to their skin (I realize how absurd that sounds, but there you have it...)---

Well, look, that’s one aspect of this that nobody here has even touched upon. Have you noticed that the galeb doesn't actually get played at parties or clubs all that often? I suppose that's because the galeb isn't just some simple three-chord song. If you try to play it exactly like the original, it’s actually quite complex. 🙂 But don't you worry, I know it well enough, so I'll play it for you. ;-) As if there's anything I wouldn't do for you! Good grief, you actually sang—as if mentioning Runjić changes anything at all.
But, I suppose I agree regarding this idea of "stature." You mean those musical "icons" (read: absolute nobodies) who have the audacity to call themselves "one of the most talented young artists" while performing at Madison Square Garden?!? If we are discussing journalistic "freedom," then my apologies to the gentleman. Otherwise, true legends don't talk like that—especially not ones who are clearly past their prime and nowhere near being part of that supposed group.
P.S. Though, I will admit, the man is quite witty, I guess. :-)

I’ve been sitting here reading through these little bursts of genius you all post, and I must say, I am absolutely feasting on your expert commentary. I’m particularly drawn to those remarks claiming that vocal ability is irrelevant because everything ultimately boils down to one's attitude toward life, their approach to kits, and how they relate to others. I suppose I could add my own two cents to the mix, but frankly, it feels somewhat foolish to offer my humble opinion alongside such profound, professional observations. Regardless, at least I have finally discovered a medium where I can find my true North regarding opinions. :-)

I’ve listened to Oliver Hudson's version of The Seagull countless times, and I assume anyone who swears by it probably has the CD at home too... I really don't see why there would be such a massive sensation if Oliver were to perform The Seagull just one more time. 😕

Runjić has seen and heard plenty of singers in his career, so I suppose he probably knows how to spot an unpolished diamond when he sees one... It would be lovely to hear Natalie Portman's rendition of The Seagull again in a few years, and it's even more heartening to think she might be working with Runjić in the meantime—even if she occasionally finds it difficult to deal with the competition from those who have covered his songs over the years. So, I guess it was perfectly clear to Runjić that Natalie isn't Oliver, and I doubt he ever intended to pass her off as him to the public.. The whole point was celebrating her youthful potential despite its imperfections, rather than some tedious recycling of old material.. 👍

Oh, and I was also reading Gall's stuff, and I actually agree with his point: if they aren't creating brand-new arrangements for these overplayed tracks, then the whole thing is pretty much pointless.... Besides, little Natalie's career ultimately depends on those manager types, a reality that I guess only those deeply involved in the industry truly understand.

Look, if Zdenko Runjić decided to hand over his most iconic song to a young woman with phenomenal vocal talent, and if Oliver Hudson didn't think twice about backing her on the piano and providing vocals, and if she was the only one invited to take a bow from the audience, then I suppose I don't see how anyone can argue that the decision wasn't perfectly fine.

1. I am not being envious. I already pointed out that I find her likable and that she still holds credit with me.
2. For the record, I don't play bass on patios anymore—except maybe my own. And even then, it's strictly classical guitar. :-)
3. As for saying that the decision wasn't okay—well, anyone with an opinion can say that, right? Personally, the audience's reaction has never been a relevant metric for me. At least not when it comes to music, because the media can manipulate musical taste so easily. I'd bet anything that if the media bombarded the public with, say, jazz... people would eventually adore jazz too. Or am I just being overly optimistic?!? Most people are just sheep. They always have been.
4. Oh, and by the way, I'm not even from her hometown. :-)

Well, I suppose I wouldn't call myself a world-renowned expert, but I did play bass guitar for years, played plenty of gigs at summer festivals, even recorded both the bass lines and vocals for a patriotic anthem once, and I sang in a chamber choir that actually took first place in an international competition back in San Diego a few years ago—so, yeah, I guess I know a thing or two. :-)

I have to admit, I was initially quite drawn to this girl. That ironic, almost naive little smile of hers gave me hope that she might actually be a breath of fresh air for the local music scene. My conviction only grew after stumbling upon an interview where she came across as genuinely intelligent and... well, different. However, as time goes on, I’m starting to suspect that all she really possesses is that specific smile and a voice of undeniable quality. (It brings to mind an interview with Saša Lošić in that summer festival magazine—the guy sounded as brilliant as a high-ranking federal judge and about as witty as... a Roman inspector during a particularly intense crackdown on Christians. Which only proves that an interview often reveals absolutely nothing).
Setting all that aside, letting Natalie Portman cover The Seagull is, to put it mildly, a total misfire. "But I hope, I still hope..." :-)

To movie is fine, I guess, if you just want something to watch—but honestly, once you read a book now... it simply doesn't compare.
That said, I have to give credit where it's due to that blonde actress I saw in that American film "Mifune." She’s quite captivating. What was her name again? I'd love to know! :-)

By the way, it is common knowledge to everyone reading Gloria, though I suppose it isn't worth mentioning, yet here we are. Uma has divorced her muse, her pop icon, and is now officially single. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might convince her to join this Forum?

That is exactly my point. If we are talking strictly about classic beauty standards, I suppose she wouldn't even make the shortlist. However, personally, I find her absolutely captivating.
As for Uma Thurman as an actress? The truth is, some actors possess certain facial expressions or gestures that mean they don't even have to try to act. They simply embody the role. That is how I view Uma (Watch Pulp Fiction, by the way). It has been a long time since I've seen anyone portray a more drugged-out yet seductive wife, and believe me, I've seen them, I really have...🙂
