The birth of a soul in Spirituality ·
So, I was digging into some medical research recently, and get this: it turns out a massive number of women experience miscarriages without even realizing they were pregnant in those super early stages. It’s wild. Now, if you take that data and run it through the lens of traditional theological ideology—you know, the idea that the soul is formed at the exact moment of conception—then the math leads us to one incredibly simple, albeit heavy, conclusion. We are talking about a HUGE number of deceased children. Furthermore, most faiths teach us that an innocent child who passes away, completely pure and without sin, goes straight to heaven. Following that logic, it stands to reason that heaven is absolutely PACKED with kids.

Just a little layman's observation here

Unborn and unbaptized children don't go to heaven; they go to limbo.
Catwoman in Movies ·
So, get this—during the filming of the new Catwoman flick, they actually swapped out Halle Berry for a 29-year-old guy named Nito Larioz during the action sequences. This martial arts pro from Hawaii had to rock bright red lipstick just to pull off the stunt work for the Hollywood star, and since he’s about the same height as Halle Berry, he didn't have any trouble squeezing into that iconic Catwoman suit. The scenes were shot so fast you wouldn't even notice the switch, but honestly, anyone who's just staring at Halle Berry's sexy outfit is going to be pretty shocked when they realize they were actually checking out a dude in a lady's costume.

It’s just like when that one arrow hits him right in the heel—the only spot that wasn't bulletproof. You have people out here totally convinced that Achilles is invincible, and then suddenly they're staring at him dead on the ground with an arrow sticking out of his heel, realizing the whole thing was a lie because he was vulnerable right there.

Honestly, this whole thing feels exactly like those number 1 stories.😁

Henry Anderson47 said:Honestly, I’d be down for either angle. Since this isn't even based on actual mythology, I really wouldn't mind if they just ditched the whole Troy thing and wrote a completely original script from scratch.

If the movie had actually been built on an original concept, I wouldn't have a single complaint.

But as it stands? They might as well have titled it "Achilles in Small Town, USA." 😁

Alright, let's say the movie is fun, right? It’s got a star-studded cast, the fight scenes are shot beautifully, and all that. All in all, it’s a solid action spectacle you can sit through.

But here’s the real kicker: why on earth did they need to call it Troy and base it on the Iliad? They could have just hired a screenwriter to whip up an original script about some massive historical battle—or better yet, a totally made-up one.

An original flick like that would still have had the same actors, the same director, and the exact same visual style... basically, it would be just as watchable.
The only difference is that movie wouldn't have the name attached to it, meaning it wouldn't line the pockets of those Hollywood producers quite as heavily.

Americans should be legally banned from making historical stuff that has absolutely zero connection to our own landscape.
And I mean, definitely.

I am 100% with you on that.

Look, I’m not even talking about historical accuracy regarding what went down at Troy. It’s totally obvious you can't just "literally" transplant everything onto a movie screen—you know, the actual gear, the specific armor, the ships, how they actually fought, the clothes and all that... and honestly, come on, I'm fine with that.

I also totally agree that movies based on existing stories usually need some tweaks to work.
But we're talking about the Iliad here; it's an epic, a legend, a story that's been legendary for thousands of years.
All these rewrites you're mentioning? To me, it just feels like yet another Hollywood spectacle gone wrong.

I just don't get what this movie would actually lose—unlike those other "historical" flicks—in terms of action, pure spectacle, or being engaging... if they had just stuck closer to what Homer actually wrote.

I totally get why you’d think the movie is fun.

The whole mythology thing is basically non-existent in this flick. Achilles is just portrayed as some incredible fighter rather than anyone actually vulnerable.
And man, they totally butchered the whole Achilles' heel thing.
At the end of the movie, Paris hits Achilles in the heel, then Achilles charges at him and takes three arrows straight to the chest. Even for a guy like him, that’s overkill, but right before he kicks the bucket, he actually pulls those three arrows out of his chest—though he's still left with that arrow in his heel. Then the rest of the Greeks find him like that, and boom, there's your "material" for the legend of Achilles' heel.

But seriously, what you’re describing has absolutely zero to do with the Iliad. 😢

You're totally right about the hair, though.👍
I read the Iliad ages ago, but I just had a completely different vision of Achilles in my head. Honestly, Brad Pitt looks way too much like Hercules to me—kind of like that crappy TV show where even the gods show up 🙂 .
Troy in Movies ·
There are definitely no gods here😢

It looks like Paris spent enough time mastering his bow and arrow over the last three movies that he didn't even need a little help from Apollo to nail Achilles right in the heel.

casualotter21 said:Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. I mean, Achilles was basically an immortal, Superman-level demigod anyway. Just like all the other Greek and Trojan heroes, you've got gods constantly hovering over their heads, dropping curses and lightning bolts on anyone standing in their way. Once you accept that, some tiny detail like whether his hair color is historically accurate becomes totally irrelevant to me.

To me, the whole depiction of the Greeks and Trojans feels a bit too much like high fantasy. But hey, that's just my two cents.

By the way, why don't the gods actually show up in the movie?

Anyway, I’ve got a question for the actual experts here: what historical sources are people even using when they try to reconstruct the Trojan War, seriously? This goes for Hollywood too—those folks claiming it's a "historical" epic, and even the critics already whining about how "Troy" won't be "historically accurate." Like, come on. Hmmm?

With a budget that massive, you'd think they wouldn't skimp on the pros, right? They probably went out and grilled archaeologists and historians for advice.
Or maybe... it's just Hollywood after all.

But honestly, for me, it's all about that first impression.
And mine? Well, it looks like we're just getting another Xena or Hercules reboot.
(Though, man, I really hope I'm wrong.)🙂

mellowbear64 said:Honestly, Achilles was such a wimp. When Odysseus came knocking asking him to join the fight, he was just hiding out among some women. Then, the second that war horn blasted, the ladies all scattered and Achilles finally grabbed his sword.

Solid point,👍
totally slipped my mind.

Though, honestly, that probably says more about how tough those Greek women were.🙂

Was blue hair actually a thing in ancient Greece? Hmm...

I know it wasn't exactly a common look back in Rome, which is why Germanic men and women were such highly sought-after slaves specifically because of their hair color.

But honestly, I’m always pretty skeptical when it comes to those massive Hollywood epics and the "history" they try to pass off as fact anyway.

So, picture this: the absolute greatest Greek hero ever, standing right there outside the walls of Troy, looking totally smooth-shaven with this long, flowing blue hair??? 😁

I'm sitting here watching the trailer for Troy, and honestly? I’ve got a massive knot in my stomach about how this whole thing is going to turn out.
Achilles??
🙄
It feels like I'm watching Xena.
