Stop being so passive and just snap like she did... I mean, honestly, people like that only respond when you speak their language, you know?
It’s not even like she’s your boss or anything, so I really don't get why you're making such a big deal out of this...
I honestly don't get why anyone would still be giving a kid a hard time about skipping religion class these days, I mean, seriously, I went through several different schools growing up and I don't think I ever once saw or even heard of anyone being pressured about it...
It’s not like they actually make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things either... I guess it's just like taking a foreign language elective or something, you know? Like, some kids sign up for it and some just don't, and that's pretty much it...
I honestly think if kids don't grow up loving books, that’s really on the parents, you know? I mean, I was reading from the moment I could walk, basically—we’d sit together and read, and I remember pointing out letters to my parents, and even my grandma would read the subtitles on TV shows to me until I got fast enough to keep up myself... we just never made reading into some big, scary monster or treated it like this impossible chore...
When I was about 13, I finished my first massive book, like *7,000 Days in Alaska*, for example...
And honestly, I don't think any subject is ever truly too difficult if the teacher actually knows how to tailor things to the students...
But let's be real for a second, because if we're being honest, who is actually going to go back and read those specific required reading books during college, unless they're majoring in English Lit or something similar...
So, if you don't get through them in high school, you probably never will, which I think would be such a shame...
The real issue is that kids often end up with adults in their lives who never liked reading themselves, and then those people turn it into this huge, intimidating thing...
I started taking birth control when I was about 16—I think it was Yasmin or something like that—mostly just to deal with acne and all those other annoying issues...
The side effects were honestly just brutal; I felt like I could have eaten an entire tree because I was constantly starving, and I think I ended up gaining like 15 pounds in less than a month...
Never again for me. I totally respect people who take them for medical reasons, but for everyone else, I’d much rather just track my ovulation cycles and use some other form of protection instead..
I know at least ten girls who were on them and ended up quitting, even the ones who seemed super enthusiastic about starting at first.. I also know two who say they feel fine, though one of them won't even admit that some of her issues are actually from the pills since she's been on them for years...
All in all, I don't know a single person who had a completely positive or happy experience...
Even if I still struggle with breakouts now, I’d honestly rather just deal with the acne than go back to messing with hormones....
At the elementary school...
I mean, I really think it would be ideal if there were at least three main sections that you touch upon every single day, even if they aren't officially broken down into sub-topics or anything...
The real headache, though, is that these kids only ever study right before a big test, and since I'm just a substitute teacher, I don't really have the power to change how things are run...
If they had just taken a quick look at the diagram before class started, they probably would've known, but basically, you need those three parts so they can actually list them out....
That's just one example from a perspective where everything is actually being handled through visual, auditory, and tactile learning all at once, and honestly, you can only imagine how much better the results could be when it's just that old-school "read and write" routine between the students and the teachers...
Even though I’m definitely not always on the same page as my fellow teachers, I feel like I’m constantly fighting this uphill battle against the entire educational system, you know?
I mean, there are just some kids out there who can't seem to grasp things through standard schooling alone, no matter what you do...
You honestly wouldn't believe how much heart a person can pour into their work, too...
Like, take today for instance—we were diving into the anatomy of the ear. We watched a documentary, did some sketching, studied a physical model, went over everything using the model, and then they filled out a worksheet. I probably ran through the whole process fifty times, we did it together, and it seemed like everything was clicking perfectly... But then the very next period rolls around, we move on to something else, and suddenly it's like nobody learned a single thing...
And I think that's starting to really get to people working in the classroom, and I know for sure it’s getting to me, because I truly gave it my absolute all...
Hey everyone! So, my headset has started crackling in one ear, and honestly, they've been around for a few years now... plus they've taken a couple of falls, so I guess that might be part of it. The sound sort of drifts from one side to the other, and sometimes one side just goes totally dead until I tilt my head a certain way to get it back 😁 ...
Right now, I'm using a Logitech wireless set, mostly because being wireless is a huge deal for me—Bluetooth just isn't an option since my PC is ancient and the jack ports are basically useless, so it really has to be via USB
These have probably been with me for two or three years, and the real kicker is that I tried Googling similar models recently, and man, the prices absolutely terrified me; I'm positive I paid way less than this before...
I think I have the Logitech H600, but I can't find the box anywhere and there’s no model name printed on them... It's also super important to me that whatever I get is really lightweight; I can't stand those massive, heavy headsets that weigh you down
Any recommendations? Please help...
Hey there! So, my uncle’s daughter is getting ready for her First Communion soon, and honestly, neither my mom nor I have any clue what we should get her. We don't see each other very often—it’s a long story, really—so if we were closer, I’d probably have a better idea of what she’d actually like...
From what I hear, she’s still got a bit of a childish streak, maybe even more than most kids her age...
Personally, I’ve always been a little skeptical about buying jewelry, you know? It feels like something that either gets lost or just sits in a drawer forever... but if that ends up being the only real option, I might look for something with an infinity symbol or something meaningful like that. Then again, just handing over cash feels kind of tacky, doesn't it?
I remember when I was younger, one of my cousins gave me a Barbie set for my First Communion, and I swear it was the absolute best gift ever 😁 ... But then a friend of mine, who’s a teacher, told me that kids at that age aren't really playing with toys anymore, which seems a little weird to me, so I figured I'd check in here and see what you all think...
Basically, what's the big trend for third graders these days? Thanks! 🙂
So, back when I was working as an assistant in one of those classrooms, I noticed that at least half the kids—like, seven out of fourteen, easy—wouldn't even bother showing up for their religion class... and then you have these kids just drifting through the halls from the library and whatnot, and I honestly feel like it’s such a massive waste of their time. Plus, since computer lab was always such a drag in the afternoon, they ended up basically stuck in the school building all day anyway. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if we're talking about teaching faith in the 21st century, it really ought to be happening in places actually designed for that kind of thing rather than just squeezing it into a standard school schedule...
Hey everyone! I wanted to start a thread about birth control pills, mostly because a friend of mine who’s on them keeps insisting that what she’s taking isn't really the same thing as the standard stuff, which honestly sounds a little suspicious to me ☕ ...
So, basically, just yesterday I heard for the very first time that there are actually pills out there where you don't even get a period at all. I mean, I knew you could manipulate things with hormones, obviously, but I didn't realize that was actually considered a recommended way to go...
She’s from out of town—not from here in the States—so maybe this hasn't really become a common thing in our neck of the woods yet, or maybe I'm just totally out of the loop and uninformed 😁 ...
