Given that your friend hasn't seen a doctor in quite some time and a formal diagnosis hasn't even been established—especially since those initial symptoms have long since vanished while he continues to be heavily medicated... Have you considered the possibility that he might actually be fine, and is simply experiencing a mental fog caused by the medication itself?
I am not suggesting this is definitely the case, but it remains a distinct possibility...
