Shame (2011) in Movies ·
Personally, I thought it was a fantastic movie, especially with those two leads delivering such stellar performances.
Most people seem to think it’s just mediocre, if not a total flop altogether.

Angela Alvarez10 said:I’m just not feeling Ryan Gosling as an actor; he comes across as totally sterile🙄 so any hope for actual chemistry is completely dead for me. I actually had to stop watching halfway through—that was a month ago, by the way. Honestly, Anne Hathaway needs to try a different path instead of just making movies that follow the exact same formula as The Notebook. She really needs to take a page out of Ryan Gosling's book.😁

She does have a few other movies that aren't quite the same vibe:

State of Play
The Lucky One

And Sherlock, obviously...😉
Amanda Evans2 said:Bio skeptic, but honestly? I ended up being completely satisfied with the film.
There isn't any of that exhausting, unnecessary action sequences you see everywhere; the movie just flows smoothly from start to finish. There’s no forced pathos either—just a whole lot of solid acting.

That bit with the umbrella really caught me off guard...😍

It hit way too close to home for me.😁
I’m watching that scene thinking, why on earth does he even need an umbrella right now? Like, seriously...🤣
This movie is what's on the schedule for tonight.😉

Honestly, I’ve never really sat around thinking about how I’d end that movie. So, yeah... can't really give you an answer to that one.

Sure, the movie is pretty twisted, but I wouldn't call it stupid.
I'd give it a solid 6.5/10.

Most people just hated on the ending, which totally ruined the movie for them😉

Just try to hang in there until the end.
It’s definitely not your typical, cookie-cutter romantic comedy.

Austin Alvarez62 said:Abiding vs. Breaking—it’s all the same thing, isn't it? 😉

Why? Is that really the question we're starting with?

It’s just bad. Unconvincing, naive—honestly, if it weren't for the star power, nobody would even be talking about it. It teeters right on that line of being a total B-movie?
Because the acting is always so over the top—especially with Gerard Butler—and honestly, I can't even wrap my head around Fox News.
Because the plot was predictable from the jump—and the ending was, to put it mildly, idiotic?
Because Gray is a terrible director who’ll never actually make a decent film—ever.

Now that's what I call a take. Clear points, not just some vague "I don't like this" nonsense.😉

Austin Alvarez62 said:That movie is a tough watch—honestly, a total disaster. I’m talking about "Breaking Citizen."

The last half hour basically nukes everything good about the movie. Up until then, though? It's actually solid.
So, what makes it such garbage to you?

I get where you're coming from.
But honestly, there's just no excuse for that kind of vendetta.
It's like Zekoslav said:
"What would the world even look like if everyone started blowing stuff up every time they felt wronged?"
It's a real shame that since that movie, Gerard Butler hasn't really landed anything else worth watching.

I’ve already flipped the switch on and off a few times after about 20 minutes 🤷
Gonna give it one more shot...

Look, if it hasn't grabbed you by the third viewing, it's probably not going to happen. It’s one of those movies where it’s either love at first sight or you just can't stand to watch it.

Donna Williams4 said:Let me pull one more thread from the archives for us. 😁

What are your thoughts on the protagonist's moral compass? Are his actions truly justified?

If we're talking pure ethics, his actions aren't justifiable. He killed people, and that's just wrong, period.
But if you look at how things actually went down in his life—his rage, the way he reacted—it makes total sense. It's logical.😉

Hopefully we've actually gained a decent cinephile here on the forum.😉

Donna Williams4 said:The Godfather is trying way too hard to be important—it’s incredibly pretentious, there’s hardly any actual action, and on top of all that, it drags on for three whole hours. What a lovely way to watch your Saturday night vanish into thin air, right?

So you decided to dig up half a dozen dead threads just so you could trash The Godfather...😁
I love seeing people this fired up about nothing.☕
