Does anyone know where I can grab some bulk poppy seed rolls around Indianapolis (maybe near Memphis or Columbus)?

Maybe try checking out the Free Press in VA? Here's their site if you want to poke around, though I'm guessing they’ll have way more variety in-store... plus, they're probably cheaper than Visa.

Chris Moore5 said:My godmother actually wore a dress just like that for her engagement shoot. Her mother-in-law made it herself. I can DM you the link to the video if you want to see it.
If you send me the photo of the dress, I can ask the girl who works at Rachel's who the bride was, and maybe I can track her down. Also, right across from the boardwalk, there’s a local shop where women do that kind of custom needlework. I actually wanted to have them make a dress for my godmother's bridesmaids, but I couldn't do white, so I passed. They quoted me $200 for it. Which, honestly, isn't even that much.

Oh man, thank you so much! But I actually passed on that because I reached out to this seamstress in the Midwest (or maybe Island—I can't quite remember) and she wanted $1667 from me. That felt like way too much money! So, I ended up just sticking with my plans involving The Chinese! 🤣
I had no clue about those shops across from the Promenade. I might have to swing by there though, just to check out their wedding dress accessories!
Seriously, thanks a million for all the info!

Around here, it’s pretty common for people to show up with these big gift baskets filled with baking supplies. Since I really wasn't feeling the whole DIY vibe, we figured out a different way to handle it:
We just went ahead and pre-ordered the cookies and the wedding cake from a local bakery. We left them a list of our favorite flavors so guests could just order a slice or a mini cake directly from the shop instead of bringing those heavy baskets. Honestly, it ends up costing about the same—if not a little less!

Well, you probably haven't because they actually just rebranded—it's all new under the Figaro name now! It's right across from the Budweiser hotel. Or was it Art? I think it was something like that, maybe?
They're pretty well known around town too, especially if you're looking for some Devil's Food Cake!

Mark Nguyen11 said:I don't want to get into a debate about Bos's stores or him personally, but their cakes and pastries really are good. I've been convinced more than once... (and if you ask me, that's due to the women making them, not him). Personally, I like that the sweets are actually well-made, unlike most store-bought stuff that's just pure sugar. I suppose tastes differ on that point, but when it comes to the actual quality of the cakes and pastries, I don't think anyone can find fault with them. People can say what they want...

I've tried them too, and they were fine until I found out how they actually operate. Now that I know what kind of stuff they're putting in there, I probably wouldn't eat them again..
Same goes for Figaro, which is super hyped up in Indianapolis, but it's total garbage. They actually served old, frozen pastries at a recent wedding, and once they got to the venue, people noticed they were starting to mold, so they ended up not even putting them out on the tables!
So yeah, a reputation doesn't always mean quality! And I'm not complaining about Boss just because he's the boss. As for his quality, the fact that he's slowly closing down his shops speaks for itself.
That's just my two cents!

So 👍🙏 they are my top choice
😍

Honestly, I'd probably just bake the cake myself rather than buy it from Bos!
I'm not saying it didn't look pretty or anything, but I just can't get behind the quality of Bos and his stuff again...

So, how are you guys planning on handling wedding invites? Like, who are you actually bringing along with you?
How are you even approaching the whole family invite thing? Are you going with your partner, your best man/maid of honor, or maybe your parents...???

I guess I’m thinking about inviting my relatives with either my cousin or my maid of honor, and then probably bringing either my dad or my mom along, and then obviously my friends and godparents will be there with me and my partner???

It’s definitely not following the old-school traditions, but I honestly don't know any other way to pull this off!!!

Betty Foster8 said:😲 I don't know a single person who drinks red wine 🤷
around here it's strictly white; you might see some red if someone's got a homemade batch 😕

Anyway, over here we talk about industry standards, so you might want to do some digging

I guess I'm not sure... I see someone had a similar standard before. The difference is really just the liqueur and the bourbon. Basically, when we were checking things out at the camp, Amazon was the one that showed up like this. People probably know because everyone buys from them!
Oh well! 🤷
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
Yeah, totally... it feels like there’s always twice as much red being poured compared to white. At least, that’s how it looked in every guide I ever read. Especially out in the Midwest! Most people just stick to the reds (even though I'm more of a white wine girl myself, I guess)! And honestly, when I really think about it, I rarely see anyone around me sipping on white! Everyone just goes straight for the red. They say white is mostly just a thing down in California!
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
Hmm...
For about 160 people:
- Red wine - 26 gallons
- White wine - 13 gallons
- Coca-Cola - 21 gallons
- Fanta - 10 gallons
- Sparkling water - 1 bottle per person
- Juice - 10 gallons + some apple juice
- Tonic water - 1 quart
- Whiskey - 1 quart
- Hunter - 1.3 gallons
- Homemade moonshine - 1 quart

I guess I put down way more than what's actually needed. A lot of this stuff will probably be left over, so if you're grabbing it from somewhere like Costco, maybe you can just return whatever isn't used.

And money... mmhmm... My dear brother got married about three and a half months ago, and they spent like $7,000 $0.00 on a crowd of 550 people.

It really depends, I suppose, on what kind of crowd shows up to the wedding. Like, the venue owner told us that if we have a younger group, they'll definitely go through more Hunter, otherwise, not so much. So, I think it's better to just get extra and then return the leftovers.

If anyone else has their own standard list, it would be awesome if you could share it. This is just what I usually do!

Robin Chase7 said:I’m honestly sitting here trying to crunch the numbers for all the drinks and refreshments, but I am just completely lost on how much this is actually going to cost me?! I was wondering if any of you ladies who have taken the lead on organizing food and drinks for charity fundraisers might be able to help me out? So, just for some context, the wedding is going to be out in the Midwest with about 450 guests expected! If there's already a specific thread for this kind of thing, please feel free to move my post; I just couldn't seem to track down the right spot myself!🤷

Are you looking for budget estimates or more like specific quantities?

bluetiger332 said:Ladies, just so you know, there are several Yeti stores out there. The one that carries the suits is actually located just outside of a small town in Ohio—it’s in a small town in Indiana, about 10 miles away from the main area... Since I'm from that part of the Midwest, I can head over there and check on the suit prices for you if you'd like.

Yeah, yeah, we figured out it was the small town in Indiana, not the other one I was thinking of 🤦
If you get a chance, let us know the prices!! We're all super curious!!!! 🤣

Or you could just flip through their online catalog to see what's available—it's got all the pricing listed for things like men's coats, and I think there are some helpful guides in there too, if I remember correctly.

Man, Robin Chase7, you are a lifesaver!! 😁
I didn't even think to just Google it, haha!!!!! Now I actually know where everything is!!!
Basically, it's like a big shopping hub, kind of like a Walmart or a Kroger. They've got their own grocery stores plus all sorts of other little shops!
I'm pretty sure one of those shops would be the Nike one.

frozenangler87 As I have noted before, one must consider the broader implications of such matters.
There is also some talk going around that there is a shopping center located somewhere near Orašje that carries Di Capriov suits, and apparently, their prices are quite reasonable!
If all else fails, at least we can enjoy a little friendly banter over some good old-fashioned cheeseburgers! 🤣

I find myself in complete agreement with the most recent point made here. 😁
So, where exactly around Orašje are we talking about? All I’ve heard lately is some chatter regarding a suit shop over in Bosanski Brod. I’m actually planning a trip out toward Orašje myself quite soon—mostly just to stock up on groceries and perhaps make a quick stop at Aroma. 😉)

I think it might be Yoko Ono. Actually, I don't think it's even in that small town in Ohio, maybe it's in some small town in Kansas? I honestly have no clue!
People say if you're in that small town in Ohio, you take that big turnoff where you head straight for the highway, then take a right and just follow the main road, I guess. 🤷

Walter Price5 said:Has anyone traveled through Canada lately? I'm wondering about the availability of supplies like lapel materials, tulle, and things like that.

I've heard it might not even be worth the trip. I mean, it really just depends on what you're looking for, I guess. But still... 🤷
I'm probably gonna head over there anyway, if nothing else just to grab some decent BBQ. 😁
Plus, I heard there's this shopping center near Orašje that carries di Capriov outfits, and apparently, the prices are pretty great!
If all else fails, at least we'll get a little road trip out of it and find some good food!!! 🤣

I think I saw something about it, and maybe I heard something about June? But honestly, I'm not really sure since I tend to forget stuff like that almost immediately!

cosmictiger67 said:Gremlin, are you currently in Warsaw or Indianapolis? (I ask specifically because of Rachel's Photo studio)🙂
The gown you’re describing—that sheer, delicate style—was actually worn by a girl I knew back in Indianapolis...

In Indianapolis! I was actually there and saw it myself! And man, I even checked on the price and it totally freaked me out! 🙂

I guess I already mentioned something similar over on the "Dream Wedding Dresses Vol. 2" thread, but I felt like I had to post here too because I think some Midwest women might get what I’m talking about better!

So, basically, my husband and I were walking past Rahelad's Photo studio last night to check out some wedding shots, and I just spotted this one girl in the most amaaaazing wedding dress.
It wasn't just your typical off-the-rack boutique gown; it had this intricate smocking all through it and a super modern cut—it was just... wow!
I was honestly obsessed, it looked so gorgeous!
Now, I'm not sure if everyone here knows what smocking actually is, but if anyone happens to know how much a dress like that would run, I would be so incredibly happy to know!
I took a quick picture, but I feel kind of awkward posting someone else's photo on a forum like this!
Or, if anyone has any similar photos or something, please show me.
The style is sort of like those low-waisted dresses. The bottom part is really wide and flowy, but it's just the edge that has that smocked detail! And the bodice is just stunning too!!! Seriously! 😍
I kept thinking about going into the shop and asking if they could give me the girl's number so I could call her and ask about it, but that feels kinda weird... I don't know... 🤷

Ronald Jones11 said:Hey everyone, new girl checking in!
Alright, so the wedding is set for September 30th, 2011, at the Classic Ballroom. We've already booked a quartet out of Indianapolis, Leon Productions is handling the photos, and we're getting the desserts from that bakery in rural Indiana. Catering and servers are all sorted, too. The only thing left is the flowers, and honestly, it’s becoming a total nightmare. Does anyone know what the pricing looks like over at Palm or Stella in the suburbs? Also, does anyone have the scoop on Jack, who lives out near Ivanhoe? How do I even get out to his place?

I actually ran into Stella at a wedding expo in Indianapolis once, and based on what I was looking for back then, she seemed super affordable! Plus, her work wasn't half bad either!
As for Jack, I don't have his number. But maybe try searching for Jack Majpruz on Meta and send him a message asking for his cell? I bet one of the girls here has his number and can shoot you a DM.😉

Walter Price5 said:What exactly is messy about that Lad m? I'm heading to the Midwest for Easter, so I'll probably check around and book somewhere... I mean, guests usually just need a place to sleep, nothing fancy, but I still think things should look decent.

Like one girl mentioned above... if we're talking about a difference of only 5 dollars, $3.25it's probably not even worth moving guests from one hotel to another. Right now, I'm staying at the Admiral $45, which is a good deal considering how much things cost in San Francisco 🙂)

I mentioned Lady M because I honestly thought it would be cheaper. I've never actually stayed in a room there, though—I was just in some hall during a makeup presentation!
To be totally real, people used to say that hotel was basically for quick hookups, and even those UN Peacekeeping Forces guys stayed there back during the war!
But word is there's a new owner involved and things are way better now, and I heard the whole vibe is totally different!

But seriously, my advice? Just put everyone in the Admiral. It's right downtown, it's relatively affordable, and it's reliable. Why worry about what people might say later about where you put them or how you handled it?! Look, it's a solid spot, the people and service are fine, and you won't find anything cheaper at that price point. But hey, maybe check out a few others too, then you can decide.
