Well, I guess that’s really her only option if she's looking for budget stays (at least from what I can tell)!

There's also the Hotel Slavonija, the Hotel Cibalia, or that motel over on Gundulić, but I'm thinking those are probably way out of her price range anyway!

After scrolling through what felt like 500 different photos online—seriously, my eyes are bleeding—I finally settled on this one. Now, I’m just crossing my fingers that they actually pull off these flowers correctly. The cake itself is a classic Swiss meringue buttercream, and the flowers will be made from fondant—not that anyone actually eats those things, anyway, haha.

Heheh, I think yours is prettier, though mine might look pretty similar since I'm planning on using real flowers for decoration instead 😍

Walter Price5 said:I suppose I’m facing the same issue... My in-laws are staying at the Admiral too. Only, since I need accommodations for about 100 people, would the price difference be 125 or 135?
Does anyone know of a decent hostel or motel around here? I guess. Maybe. $33 Staying at VK? I guess maybe.

Maybe try asking about the rates at Gem or Lady-Mu. I guess Lady M might be cheaper, but honestly, don't go expecting anything too fancy! 🙂

I think it looks really pretty, though I guess my only gripe is that those roses are just made of frosting—they aren't actually real!
Mine is gonna be something similar, but I’m planning on decorating it with actual live flowers!
Personally, I'm not a big fan of artificial food coloring in cakes, or any kind of fake decorations, or even marzipan (not even the chocolate kind), so I figured live flowers would be the way to go for my decor! 🙂

I’m totally with Snow on this one!
I mean, we’re probably just gonna hand out some extra cake to the family members coming over for lunch tomorrow!
If you try to include dessert with every single gift, man, that’s just gonna end up being way too expensive!

Hannah Bailey6 said:Could you let me know what the current pricing looks like over at Starbucks 🙂?

So, I just posted on the Flower Shop forum about what they quoted me at the downtown florist and that little boutique shop over in Columbus! I didn't get a chance to stop by any other places though, since things got kind of crazy!
Were you there?

Walter Price5 said:Please post back here once you see what kind of decor they actually have—vases, crystal, mirrors, LED lights, candle holders... I know the total will depend on which flowers I pick (probably calla lilies), but I need to know if they carry everything I've planned for my arrangements. I don't mind paying more if it means everything looks absolutely perfect.

p.s.—what's the typical price range for florists in Indianapolis anyway?

I really should've gotten around to this sooner, but life just kind of happened, I guess! Today I'm planning to swing by Whole Foods and maybe two other local florists, then head over to Starbucks to compare all the prices! I'll let you guys know how it goes! 😛

Betty Foster8 said:Why don't you guys just order stuff on eBay? They have everything. Someone was asking about the local flea markets, but I seriously doubt those are worth it. 🤷

edit: here's a decent seller, seems like they carry pretty much everything.

Honestly, it feels way more logical than driving all over the place just to pretend you're saving money $67! 🤷

Is it even worth driving all the way to Canada or Canada to shop, though? I mean, once you factor in the cost of gas... 🤷
I feel like it might make sense if you live right near the border! But even then, for people living a bit further out... 🤷

Hannah Bailey6 said:Wait, so there really aren't any weddings happening in the new hall? That feels a little off to me... I mean, this is just a rental venue, not a full-service hotel, so you'd think they'd be booking events constantly.

Well, that’s why I’m asking. I pass by it all the time, and honestly, I’ve only ever seen one wedding in there. And those were like, the last ones I saw. It just feels off, you know? Such a pretty space just sitting there empty. I highly doubt couples don't know it exists! I mean, who doesn't know about Venue: Admiral Music if they live around here!
I heard that the place is super pricey, maybe even more than that Admiral spot downtown, but I don't actually know for sure, so I was just wondering what the rates are at Exclusive..

David Ramos25 said:The Admiral Hotel, right in the heart of downtown, is booked solid a year in advance... we made our reservation back in June last year, and there wasn't a single opening left in any of the city hotels. This new hall just opened up this past June. That’s likely why you aren't seeing many wedding parties; besides, the space is massive, even larger than the downtown location.
There are essentially two ways to handle this, as Hannah Bailey6 mentioned—it's a fifty-fifty split. You pay $145$52(I don't have the exact figure handy; our contract was set at $47, though we signed it before January 1st) per guest, and then you provide your own appetizers, roasts—think pork, lamb, desserts—and spirits like Jagermeister, whiskey, or bitters. Alternatively, you can go with option $75, or perhaps something slightly more expensive now following the January 1st changes, which is all-inclusive. Everything from starters and main courses to sides, cakes, and drinks... everything is covered.
Renting the hall by itself isn't an option; they operate as a hotel, after all.

Yeah, I get that the downtown one is full. We wanted to go there too, but I guess we just couldn't wait a year and a half.
It just seems kind of weird to me that Exclusive is empty, though. Like, there haven't been any weddings for months... And it's such a pretty hall... really pretty... 🤷

Hannah Bailey6 said:Thanks, though we actually ended up deciding on the Admiral in Indianapolis. It's that new hall... I'm not entirely sure what their food situation is like. We were originally thinking about just bringing our own catering and drinks and simply renting the hall and the staff from them...

Wait, is this that Exclusive hall?!
Man, now I'm curious! Did you guys actually go in for a consultation yet?
I'm asking because I'm wondering what the rental price is like. I heard the only way they do it is $83 per person, but apparently that doesn't cover everything (not sure what exactly is included).
And honestly, I haven't seen many weddings there lately! I only know of one wedding, and that was maybe late August or early September. I pass by there every weekend, and I haven't noticed any other wedding parties.

Robert Moore86 said:The Crown was handing out cookies at the fair yesterday... $22 Per pound, or say if you're from a small town, USA or out in Vigor... $18 Per pound...

Man, those prices at Crown seem kinda wild to me! 🤷
I mean, how many cookies actually fit in a pound? Like, just regular sized ones, nothing tiny or huge?
I heard some places let you grab them by the piece or by weight. I already placed an order, but I'm just curious! Purely out of curiosity, I guess!!! 😁

Robert Moore86 said:Where are you guys picking up drinks—both sodas and alcohol—plus the desserts for hosting guests before heading out to church and the reception hall? Looking for spots around Indianapolis and the surrounding areas... also, are you planning on having pre-packaged treats to hand out to people as they leave the venue? How much should I actually get?

I don't really know about Indianapolis specifically, but I guess it might be smartest to grab your drinks from a warehouse club like Costco or Sam's Club. That way you can stock up big so you don't run out, and if there's extra, maybe you can return it? At least that's what I did!

As for desserts in Indy, I only know from my own experience. Back when I was in college, I lived in Indianapolis and I know a ton of people go to those Caitlin's Bakery spots over on Divaltov. I actually went once because I was craving something sweet. And, honestly, I was pretty disappointed! Personally, I'm not a huge fan of their stuff because they just lack flavor to me.
What I did was find a couple of local bakeries near me and bought just a few pieces first to taste them, and then I went back to place a full order. Mostly just because those Caitlin's pastries look so pretty, but they weren't actually yummy to me.
Oh, and yeah, we already arranged for those little gift baskets of sweets to be delivered right to the venue. We're going to pack the small treats from the tables into plastic containers. It’ll be the same way we have our giveaway treats packed, just with smaller boxes. I think I'll just need to buy some little bags for the boxes so people don't have to carry them around loosely in their hands.

Raymond Phillips73 said:Don't even sweat the music situation. Last year, we had a Full band play for us. The song selection, the vibe, the sound quality—everything was spot on. And here's a fun little fact: they actually have a girl who sings and plays the drums at the same time! 😉

Thanks so much for the pep talk! We actually picked up a few DVDs of them performing, and I gotta say, they aren't bad at all! I’m actually pretty happy with how they sound. I guess the only thing I'm wondering about is those background sounds they play during the songs... did you guys have that too?
I'm not really feeling that, or well, maybe not super much! Maybe it could work for a couple of tracks where it fits, but not the whole time!
I wonder if it's even possible to ask them not to do that?
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
No biggie at all! 😛
As for the deposit, I don't know... I always figured you don't really get that money back unless they're the ones who flake on you! Like, isn't that what a deposit is for? To hold the spot, and if they bail, the place still gets something out of it. But hey, I might be totally wrong about that!
I mean, I bet it's all just up for negotiation anyway!

granitegull35 said:I'm talking about the ones from the old local band—the contact person is Alen!😉

So, my band is basically an Indianapolis-Columbus type of crew. One of the guys playing in the group actually used to be in the Air Force, and his contact is Daniel.
Here’s the link to their website:
Check out this blog about an Elvis Presley band! It's pretty cool, I guess.
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
So, we're actually pretty tight with David, the guy who runs Elvis Presley. Just thought I'd share how this works:
They don't really come with their own backing group, but they have these guys they work with all the time. If you just book the Elvis Presley band on their own, it’s going to be $1,300. They'll definitely recommend some musicians they collaborate with, but you aren't stuck with them—you can totally bring your own people if you already have someone in mind.
But, if you decide to go with the backup group they suggest (maybe because you don't feel like hunting for someone else, or you don't have anyone lined up, or whatever), then it comes out to $1,500,
basically, the Elvis Presley band ($1,300) plus the backup crew ($200) equals $1,500.
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
Man, those guys from Elvis Presley are seriously good. It’s such a bummer our date is already booked.
Believe me, you won't regret spending a single cent on them. I've been to a few weddings where they played, and honestly, I was just blown away! I danced so much that I didn't even notice my feet hurting. I didn't realize how bad it was until I checked my legs the next day! 🤣
If I remember right, they're playing a welcome event at the plaza in Columbus, so if you don't have plans, maybe a quick trip to Columbus would let you check them out!

We ended up finding some other group in the end. 🙂I think it's an orchestra. To be honest, I have no clue how they sound. We got them through a recommendation from a good friend who used to play in a band himself but had to quit because of work. So, I trust his word! Whatever happens, happens!
I guess I can only hope everything turns out okay!
