steelsailor74 said:AndricWe went to a cake tasting session, and honestly, the lady there was such a sweetheart. She gave us some samples to try, but here’s the best part: she actually split them into two separate packages. It was this cute little gesture so we could taste both sides—one specifically for the groom and one for the bride. Such a thoughtful touch.🙂 We ended up getting all these cookies—tons of different kinds, too. They’re those fancy varieties you usually only see being served at big weddings.

They offer free shipping, too—even if you’re living way out in the suburbs or somewhere far beyond the D.C. metro area. You can pretty much work out whatever you need with them. If you want to pull a few specific cookies from their lineup or suggest adding some new flavors that aren't currently in their wedding package, they're totally open to negotiating.

They serve the cookies on these fancy gold-colored plastic trays—if you’re into that sort of thing—and don't worry about an extra charge; those trays are already included in the price.

One kilo, thirty different kinds.$25 Or maybe just one kilo—ten different kinds.$23

Look, everyone’s got their own thing when it comes to dessert. Taste is so subjective that trying to figure out what exactly hits the spot for everyone else is basically impossible. As far as I'm concerned? These treats are pretty damn good.
I’m currently in full-on dessert testing mode. I've still got four more bakeries left on my hit list to hit for some tastings before I make my final call... and who knows, I might just drop a full ranking here once I'm done. 😉 )

ŠimićThey let us try some, too, but most of them aren't really the fancy wedding cake type. It’s more like the stuff you’d pick up at a local farmers market—maybe five different kinds of walnut treats, three or four varieties of those crumbly, crusty cookies, and then some other sweets, like those chocolatey coconut squares.

One kilo? Seriously? You’re looking at maybe fifteen to twenty different kinds of treats there. $27

They’re offering a 10% fair discount, but there's a catch: you only get it if you bundle the cookies and the cake together. If you just want one or the other? Forget about it. No discount for single items. Typical, right?
Just a heads-up: they're charging extra for deliveries outside the Washington, D.C. area. I didn't bother asking about the rates for the city itself or the immediate suburbs, though...

They’ll throw in the basic arrangement for free on a white, slightly flimsy plastic base. But if you’re looking for something a bit more upscale—like a gold-plated, sturdier base—you're going to have to cough up some extra cash. $2.75

The pastries? Some were actually pretty great, others were just... meh. Honestly, I’m struggling to give a fair rating since we didn't get to sample the actual wedding cakes, and there was way less variety than what you’d find at a place like Magnolia Bakery.

All that's left on our list: Kasnar, Relax, a sweet gift, a sweet treat, and maybe eventually Mimi... ☕

Since everyone seems to be hovering right around that $70 mark...$27Look, if I'm going to shell out this kind of cash, I might as well go all in and pick the absolute best of the best.🤷

I really hope I was able to help someone out there.🙂

Just thought I'd add a few more details for everyone else:

Unknown hosted an incredible welcome reception. They were seriously easy to work with and totally open to negotiating the details. We sampled some of their cakes—man, they were delicious. Super rich and flavorful. Also, the pastries? A full kilogram of goodness.$27The cakes look incredible—the presentation and texture are spot on—but honestly, they’re all lacking a bit of sugar. It’s like they aren't even sweet. Now, full disclosure: I’m not exactly the type of person who needs a massive sugar rush in everything I eat. But if you're one of those people who prefers things on the lighter, less sugary side, you are going to absolutely love these. As for the pies? They're phenomenal. 👍

Pure bliss. These cookies are absolutely incredible, and the lady running the shop is just as lovely—super sweet and easy to talk to. Grabbed a kilo for about $15.$27It all really comes down to how you set things up.😉
It’s a real shame, honestly. There isn't a single decent bakery around here, so I won't be getting my hands on any of those cakes.

The cakes at Relax are honestly pretty great—huge slices and the prices aren't bad either. I’ve had them before, so I know what I'm talking about. But there’s one massive downside: they won't give you a single bite to try before you buy. You have to commit blindly to the full purchase. They're being incredibly stingy about it.😕
It’s always the same story when you go looking for answers. They leave out the most crucial piece of the puzzle, only for you to hear the real truth later while you're grabbing a coffee at Starbucks or sitting in some local bakery. 🙄
cookies-1kg-$27-haven't tried these yet

Mimi—they gave us about ten different cookies to sample, but honestly? They weren't great. Plus, they charge for delivery, so the whole experience just felt underwhelming. We were supposed to coordinate everything with my wife, but she couldn't make it, so she left someone else in charge who didn't know the first thing about pastries... I won't even get into the other hiccups, or I'll be here all day.

That's just my take on it, obviously. Everyone's palate is different. But once you start comparing the same kinds of treats from different local bakeries, you'll see just how massive the difference in quality can be.

Can someone please help me out... I saw a mention of a lady named Stephanie a few posts back who bakes amazing cakes. Could anyone shoot me a DM with her contact info or let me know how I can get a hold of her?

I would honestly be so incredibly grateful!! 😉
Pain under my armpit in Health ·
Just a thought: maybe you’ve got some inflammation in your mesenteric lymph nodes... I know that's a classic issue for people who always insist on keeping their hand out the window while driving down the highway...

Of course, that's just me guessing..🙂

Healthy eating... man, what can I even say about it?
I’ve been trying to do things the right way—starting my mornings with cereal, loading up on fruits and veggies, cutting back on pork, and sticking more to home-cooked meals rather than takeout.

But let’s be real: there are still plenty of days where I just want to snack on everything in sight. I’m talking greasy pizza, toasted sandwiches, decadent desserts, all kinds of junk food...

When you go through one of those long stretches of being "perfectly healthy," you eventually hit a wall. Suddenly, you're dying for a bag of chips, a slice of pizza, maybe some burgers... or a cold Coke, even though you know deep down it's not great for you.
Since I'm still pretty young (only 24!), I don't feel like I need to be a complete drill sergeant about my diet. Plus, it's hard. Sometimes it feels like you're basically a slave to your own rules. Honestly, you can't spend every single second scrutinizing whether something is "clean" or not—especially when you try stuff out and realize later it was loaded with ingredients you didn't expect.

My goal is just to eat better. Weight isn't really an issue for me, so I'm definitely not one of those calorie-counting control freaks. Personally, I think a 70/30 split in favor of healthy food is much better than not trying to change your lifestyle at all.
Regarding what someone else mentioned earlier about feeling tired or totally drained... you really do feel better and have more energy when you eat well, especially if you're staying active too.

At the end of the day, I think the key is building good habits gradually over time. But I also don't think you should be a prisoner to them. You're allowed to eat something totally unhealthy every once in a while if it just makes you happy.🙂
Ugh, I feel your pain. Last year and even this year, I’ve bounced between basically every hospital in the area. I went through endless tests just for them to conclude it was a big fat NOTHING. They honestly have no clue what’s actually going on with me... and then they just shrug and act like everything is fine. Even though I have this one specific symptom that isn't exactly something you can just brush off, I still feel pretty lousy overall.

They sent me for this test, then that one, drew so much blood I felt like a pincushion, and shuttled me from one hospital to another... "It could be this," "Check that," "Maybe try this"... God, it was exhausting.
So yeah, I’m officially taking a break from doctors for now.
Honestly, I think the smartest move is to just head to a private clinic, pay out of pocket, and get them to actually run the full battery of tests to find the root cause. Dealing with our public healthcare system is a total nightmare.

And don't even get me started on that classic line I hear over and over from different doctors: "Oh, you're so young, I doubt it's anything serious." It's such nonsense. As if being young somehow makes you immune to serious issues. Instead of actually treating someone properly or finding the real cause of their symptoms early on, they just write it off because—well, you're too young.
Then it's like, "Oh, she's just a doctor shopper who's bored with life, that's why she keeps coming back looking for answers."

Seriously, I'm losing my mind here. Every single doctor uses this ridiculous process of elimination method... "Well, maybe it's this—go take these tests." You come back, and they say, "Nope, not that, so maybe it's this—go check this instead."

The whole healthcare system is a disaster!!

thanks 🙂

Does anyone else have any updates? Come on, people, hasn't anyone pulled the trash out yet??
Food handler permit? in Miscellaneous ·
So, I need to grab a food handler's permit for a side gig I'm picking up..
Since my main employer won't cover the cost (they'll pay, but only if I agree to some ridiculous conditions I just can't commit to), I think I'll just handle it myself..

I've heard the price usually lands somewhere around $25 or so, but apparently, there are spots where you can get it done cheaper?

Has anyone here actually gone through this or does anyone know where I can get a permit and what the damage might be?

thanks

Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Look, first off, I honestly think this whole big discussion and "joint decision" regarding birth control feels unnecessary...
I mean, you’re an adult. You're mature enough to decide if you want protection via the pill, and your boyfriend shouldn't be weighing in on that choice...

So, your guy is claiming they'll mess with your hormones? Honestly, sounds like he might be a little uneducated on the topic... because plenty of women actually take them specifically to balance their hormones out...
Plus, there are so many different options available these days, ranging from low-dose to high-dose varieties...

Speaking from experience, I'm on low-dose pills and haven't dealt with any issues or side effects at all. Not to mention how much more relaxed and carefree I feel about protection—as long as you stay consistent, the chance of pregnancy is incredibly slim...

And hey, if you end up with a specific brand that just doesn't sit right with your body, you can always switch things up...
As for the whole "are they healthy?" debate... statistics vary, but whenever I chat with my gynecologist, the consensus is that modern low-dose pills aren't harmful. In fact, you don't even need to take "breaks" anymore, and using them can actually lower the risk of cervical cancer and stuff like that...

At the end of the day, the call is yours. Just let him know that while his opinion is valid, the final decision rests entirely with you...
You can use Plimycol for all sorts of things, pretty much the same way you’d use Rojazol... and yeah, you can grab both over the counter at any local pharmacy without needing a prescription.
But honestly? Your best bet is to just go see a gynecologist. They’re the ones who can actually pin down exactly what’s going on with you.

If you don't treat it, things could get messy, and trying to fix it with the wrong stuff can lead to its own set of problems, too.

Personally, I’m leaning toward thinking it’s just some mild inflammation. It probably happened because your pH levels got thrown out of whack, which basically gave bacteria an open invitation to move in.
