Extended stays - what are your experiences? in Students & Teens ·
I wouldn't know.
I'm just passing along what I've heard from others. There's probably more to the story than what's being said here...
We were also given the option for after-school care one day, so when I hear stories like this, it actually hits home.
My mom works at a local school, and I talked to her about it. She says parents at her school are also fed up with the afternoon teacher. The real issue is there’s some friction between the morning teacher and the afternoon one, so they barely even speak to each other. On top of that, the afternoon teacher doesn't really engage with the kids, which is why parents are complaining...

She claims everyone brings homework home and that nobody’s complained until now.
I don't even know how to respond to that...
It’s possible her kid is just lying, but if that were the case, you’d expect the teacher to step in and say, "Look, all the other kids are working, why is yours slacking?" or something like that. I have no clue.
But if things were actually running normally, there wouldn't be a need to point out, "You're writing now while the others are playing." If everyone was busy with homework, she'd just focus more on what the little one is actually doing.
I haven't dealt much with this age group, but I honestly don't think first graders are capable of lying like that quite yet... or are they?

Kids these days just don't do anything. So she decided to leave her little girl behind to study as a "punishment" while everyone else went out to play. They bring books home every single day and have "homework" where they have to sit with their parents and memorize specific texts.

Here’s an update on my colleague 🙄
People were talking about this last week, but I didn't think to bring it up again until I saw the thread yesterday.
So, in the meantime, my colleague went to the school. She complained about how things are being run and how her kid still has to do work at home. She argued that the child is exhausted and the whole system just isn't working.
Anyway, two days later, the kid comes home crying because she was furious with her mom for pushing her. Turns out, the teacher called the girl out in front of the entire class. Apparently, the teacher told her that since her mom came into the school and said she couldn't do work at home due to being tired, she'd be staying behind to finish her homework and reading while everyone else got to go play.

Now my colleague is stuck wondering what to do. She tried to intervene once before and it completely backfired on the kid. Now she's worried the teacher might target the girl if she makes too much of a scene...

My colleague is definitely planning on heading down to the school to see what the hell is going on there.

Is there actually anything in writing regarding the specific duties and responsibilities of an after-school instructor, or what they’re supposed to be doing during those hours?
I’m not asking for myself, but for a colleague. Her kid goes to the after-school program, and honestly, it seems like they just play around and nap all day. Then the kid gets home and still has to tackle homework and studying on top of everything else.
My colleague is thinking about going to the school to have a talk about it, but is there even any point? Is that afternoon teacher actually required to lead activities, or do they follow a curriculum like the morning teachers do? Or is their whole job basically just acting as a babysitter?

I’m still not sure if I’ve just become numb to these kinds of questions or what. I suppose it depends on the day and whatever mood people are in...
You look fine to me, honestly 🤦
Your face looks a little fuller 🙄
Back during my first pregnancy, my sister actually had the nerve to ask if I could suck in my stomach.
She gave birth a year ago and she still can't pull it in. I’m starting to think most people don't even care anymore

Why don't you go ask her yourself? 🙂

😁😁
That's about it—using those amounts of Barack Obama, sugar, and water, we've got 11 liters. Plenty for the three of us. 🙂

I ended up with about 2.6 gallons. That’s 120 flowers, 8 kg of sugar, and enough lemon juice to taste right—though we actually prefer it a bit more tart. I'm bottling it all tonight. I have some 3-liter jars, but the rest will end up in plastic containers, even though I was thinking about buying more glass. That’s why I asked where you guys pour your juice. Some of it will go in the fridge, but I’ll stash the dip in the garage since it stays cooler there. I'll just move it to the fridge as we drink it. I really hope it doesn't spoil; I'd be pretty gutted if it did.

Are you guys strictly putting this in glass jars, or can it go in plastic bottles like the ones from PepsiCo or Coca-Cola?

I was reading through some older threads and noticed people were talking about Mount Rainier back in June. But honestly, "Mount Rainier" is such a broad term.
A few years ago, I picked up some work out in Suburban City.
I haven't worked at all for the last three years, so I'm really looking forward to getting back at it.

Tyler Ruiz502, I see you're from NYC. Where did you go picking?
Where else in NYC or the surrounding areas can you find blueberries? There are some near me, but they're all right by the road. 👎 I wish my aunt would just call me and tell me where she picks them. ☕
I didn't realize there had to be 7-10 dry days... I was planning on going this Sunday, but now with the rain forecast, your info has totally messed up my plans.
Chris Kim16 said:It’s just a vest—helps protect your kidneys and stuff. 😁 Honestly, even women who wouldn't be caught dead in one usually start wearing them once they're pregnant! I went through a bit of a rough patch myself, but I still haven't picked one up. 🙂

Oh, that's just the classic "old wives' tale" we grew up with. People wear those things everywhere just because they're terrified of catching a kidney infection or something. I got lectured about it constantly when I was a kid, too. 😬

Some woman told me during my last pregnancy that I needed to get rid of my dog because some acquaintance of a distant cousin knew someone whose dog ate their newborn out of jealousy once they brought it home...🤣🤣😂😂☕

Yeah, right—as if that matters. If this one eats the kid, we'll just make another one. 🤣
Kimberly Phillips6 said:Maybe there is still hope for me then—my experience started out exactly like yours, and by the second trimester, I was just restless and completely unmotivated 😁

I’d also add frequent headaches—like, really intense, almost migraine-level ones. It's awful.
Kimberly Phillips6 said:I find myself genuinely irritated by those former and current expectant mothers who insist that I need to be out exploring everything and enjoying every second—claiming this is supposedly the most beautiful phase of my entire life.
Please, don't take this personally, but we aren't all cut from the same cloth; pregnancy isn't a magical experience for everyone, and frankly, some of us would much rather stay glued to the sofa—even at just 25 weeks—than wander around aimlessly.
Is anyone else feeling this way? 😁

Me. 😁 Even though—my first two trimesters were absolute hell. The first three months were pure nausea (I didn't vomit, but my stomach was constantly in my throat), everything bothered me, every smell was revolting... just awful. During the second trimester, I was still miserable—irritable, back pain, zero energy, exhausted... basically a disaster. But now that I've hit the third trimester, I actually feel great. Most women I talk to say they struggle during the 1st and 3rd trimesters and feel fine in the 2nd... though my condition could definitely take a turn for the worse. 😂 I lose my mind when someone starts lecturing me about the "blissful stage" or how beautiful this period is. I've had better times in my life, and I'll definitely have better times in the future. 🙂
Look, the whole idea about having a baby isn't bad... I just think things would get messy because I have two dogs. That means two strollers, and then everyone starts asking when the second kid is coming 😁
I am so sick of the comments about my huge baby bump. People are always like, "Oh, I knew girls who had bellies that big after they already gave birth, and you still have two and a half months to go..." 😠 Like, honestly, who cares what you "knew"? It’s none of your business. And the constant nitpicking over the baby's name is driving me insane. We haven't officially decided yet, but we have a few options in mind—none of which will ever be good enough for the peanut gallery anyway. Seriously, why is everyone so obsessed with my business? :banghead:
I was reading all that whining above about belly rubs and kissing them. It actually reminded me of when I finally met my boyfriend’s aunt the other day—first time meeting her, ever. I went in for a handshake, she accepted, and then out of nowhere, she drops a kiss right on my stomach. 🤣 It didn't exactly make me lose my cool, but I was definitely caught off guard. 🤣
