How does one actually go about this? I picked up some Barack Obama at the vacation house and now I'm stuck. Please tell me it isn't complicated. Everyone who was up there with me said they had absolutely no clue what they were doing. My dad gave me a starting point for the recipe, but I really need the rest of the steps...

When I was a kid, I remember elderberry syrup being everywhere you could turn, but nowadays, it feels like it has completely vanished from the shelves. Does anyone happen to know where I can track some down?

And please, don't hold back on the recipe—I'd love to make it myself.😁

ELDERFLOWER JUICE 1
WHAT YOU NEED:
40 elderflower blossoms
5 dl cold water
3.5 kg sugar
10 packets of citric acid
PREPARATION:
Pour the cold water over the blossoms and let them sit for 24 hours. After that, strain everything through double cheesecloth, toss in the sugar and citric acid, and stir until the sugar fully dissolves—it’s simple enough... Once it's dissolved, pour it into clean bottles, seal them tight, and store them until you're ready to use them.

ELDERFLOWER JUICE 2
22 elderflower blossoms
40g citric acid
2 L water
1-2 lemons, sliced up and tossed in for flavor
finally, add:
2 kg sugar
Mix everything except the sugar and leave it out in the sun for two days—then strain it through cheesecloth and stir in those 2 kg of sugar. Give it a good stir and wait for the sugar to melt away... Bottle it up.

You can even throw in some lemon zest at the end if you want it to taste more like lemonade.

ELDERFLOWER JUICE 3
Boil 5 kg of sugar in 5 L of water. Once it cools down, pour it right over 40 elderflower blossoms. Add 5 sliced lemons and 40g of citric acid. Let it sit for 48 hours before straining. Just remember—dilute this syrup with water to whatever strength you prefer before drinking!

John Doe, thank you so much! 🙂

I think I’ve gathered quite a lot here. 😁

I’ll give it a shot and let you know if it turns out thick or smooth. 🙂

I’ve got some serious childhood trauma tied to that elderberry juice 😁
My mom used to make it by the literal ton—tons and tons—and honestly, I can't even catch a whiff of it now without feeling sick 😁

My grandmother used to make that drink for me—I absolutely loved it—and I honestly had no clue it was such a hit with everyone else since nobody in my circle ever cared for it. I'm truly glad to hear that! 😉

I know my grandmother used to make that juice; I absolutely loved it. I had no clue it was such a hit with everyone else, since nobody in my immediate circle cared for it.

It was the exact same experience for me. My grandmother also used to craft a rose petal syrup, though I don't have the recipe on hand. All I recall is letting it sit for 24 hours before it was ready to drink, and it was delicious. Does anyone happen to have a recipe for that syrup?

My favorite soda... My mom never made it, and honestly, nobody else in the family did either. It wasn't even something you could just pick up at the store, so it always felt like something special to me.

For the last three years, I've been making it myself following that original recipe.🙂
I usually whip up about 10 or 12 bottles at a time...🙂 delicious.🙂

*I honestly had no clue how to make this until now... so I basically bribed my dad (he's sitting right here next to me, by the way) to dictate the recipe for the absolute best elderberry juice in the entire world* 😁>

50 flowers
5 kg sugar
10-15 oz citric acid
3-4 lemons

So, you take the flower petals, strip them off the stems, toss them in a big container, and pour 5 liters of boiling water over them. Then, just let it sit for 24 hours, making sure to give it a little stir every now and then. After that, strain out the liquid, mix in the sugar, the citric acid, and some really well-washed lemon slices cut into rounds.
Let that sit for another 24 hours, again, giving it a quick stir once in a while.
Finally, just squeeze those lemon slices (by hand works fine!) and strain everything through some cheesecloth into a bottle—ideally a plastic one, if you can help it. Give the bottle a little squeeze to make sure all the juice gets to the top, then shove it straight into the fridge (this is super important because there are zero preservatives, so it could go bad pretty fast)...

This makes about 8.5 liters of syrup

Oh, and you can actually vacuum seal the flowers and freeze them if you want to save them for making more juice later on🙂>

And yeah, that's it (my dad's looking pretty proud of himself for "discovering" the internet, haha)😁)

Should I have pre-soaked the cookie cutter in water? I really hope that wasn't required for this recipe; I just poured the water straight into the pot. 😬

So, does that mean you can freeze the juice too? 👋

Daniel Lopez said:So, I was looking at this recipe and... wait, am I doing this wrong? Should I have actually poured the water over the KipoCom first? I really hope I didn't mess up this part too, because honestly, I just dumped the water straight into the pot. I guess I might have skipped a step or something, maybe? Ugh, I don't know! 😬

I mean, I guess you could technically freeze a soda, right? Like, if you really wanted to go that route? Maybe it’s an option, though I don't know... it sounds like a recipe for a total mess once it starts thawing out. Just a thought! 👋

Yeah, I guess... exactly. Just like that. 🙂

Man, Dad is seriously cleaning up the place... honestly, he’s just going at it right now. I guess he's finally decided to get organized or something, maybe? It's actually kind of wild to watch him go through everything like this. He's being super meticulous, too—like, really intense about it. I don't know, it's just one of those things where you're sitting there thinking, "Wow, okay, we're doing this today." Anyway, yeah, he's just totally on a mission to tidy everything up.

So, I basically told her today that if she isn't gonna gift me a whole liter, I'm just gonna go out and buy it from him myself! I mean, seriously, why wait around? I was like, fine then, deal with it! Haha. 🙂

So, I basically just hauled his gear straight over to the new place right away... like, my brother finally picked up his stuff, so I headed over there to get everything installed for him. It’s all super urgent and needs to happen right now, I guess. 😁 Just checking to see if the internet is actually working, you know? Like, is it even alive? lol. So I was on my computer and she was like, "Hey, give the girls some recipes!" haha. I guess she's serious though! 😁

Tell Dad thanks! 🙏 🙂
Next time I'll just stick it in the freezer. We've already polished off half of this stuff.
😁

Man, what even is this? It's five liters. 😁
