You might walk away with a quick $667 profit here, but life has a way of collecting its debts later on...
Reading between the lines of your post, you seem pretty bitter toward the bank (interest rates? fair enough!), life, and honestly, just a generally frustrated person... but in this specific case, it's a regular employee who messed up. She's just a person working for a paycheck, and her mistake has nothing to do with interest rates.
How exactly is life going to punish him? Is there some half-baked proof out there that God exists or that there's some cosmic entity punishing someone just because they hit the jackpot at a bank? If that were true, I don't know how any murderer manages to keep living. Life isn't punishing him; he just got $667 😉
Take the money, move to another bank, and screw them. I know a few people who used to work at JPMorgan Chase, and every single one of them closed all their accounts there.
I actually went into Wells Fargo to close my account because those vultures charge $5.00 a month just for maintenance fees. I closed it, only for them to send me a notice a month later claiming I owed them a few bucks. I lost my mind and wasted an entire day just proving to them that I had closed the account days before they were supposed to charge the next fee. Forget the small change—it was just about the fact that they tried so hard to make me look stupid. To top it off, I’d already tossed the closing paperwork, but I still managed to prove I was right. In the end, the woman told me they'd just take it out of the bank's reserves.
Seriously, what crime did the bank actually charge you with? Walking into a branch? Or is it a felony to withdraw your own money? Maybe they think conspiring with a teller to get some illicit gains from $77 is a crime now. I’d love to see that court ruling. Why didn't you send that to the New York Times? It’s like if I accidentally sent you cash and then tried to sue you just because I screwed up my own math.
Kimberly Nguyen said:First off, you can't just type in anyone's account number through your online portal unless it's your own or one you've been specifically authorized to pay for. That's not how it works.
So, if you accidentally sent money to your neighbor instead of the utility company... would you be demanding your cash back then?
Why on earth would the bank sue him?
For heaven's sake, try reading with some actual comprehension here... the bank isn't going to sue him because the employee is expected to cover any shortages out of their own damn pocket. If anyone's filing a lawsuit, it’ll be the employee against the bank.
I could technically demand money from whoever owns checking account number xx xxx xxx. But there's a catch. No one at the bank is going to tell me who actually owns that account. So, good luck with that. That's why I double-check the numbers three times before hitting send, even if I'm just paying $33.
Sue the employee for what? For being incompetent? For making a mistake? Because it was raining outside or his wife was giving him a hard time at home? He didn't threaten anyone; someone just deposited money into his account. Personally, I'd view that as winning the lottery.
Just looking at my bills lately. Everything’s getting more expensive every single day, even though I haven't changed how much I actually use any of it.
What do you mean it isn't? Did someone just hand him $333 out of thin air? Whether it was me, you, or some teller at Chase making a mistake, that money hit his account and it's his. Just take the cash and pay the bills.
Why don't banks just insure themselves against these kinds of blunders? You know, when a teller messes up an entry on a deposit? All this talk is fine and dandy, but at the end of the day, the guy said he needs his money. That woman needs hers too, I guess, but I’m more concerned with my own wallet than anyone else's. It actually happened to me once—a clerk logged a smaller amount than what I actually deposited—but I caught it within two seconds because I checked the slip immediately. Back then, you didn't even have to sign paperwork for deposits, just for withdrawals.
Banks love to put it in fine print that they aren't liable for later claims. Still, it wouldn't exactly be great PR if they consistently paid people less than what was actually handed over. That's why they have cameras pointed at the tellers and record every single transaction receipt.
We can all pretend to be neighbors and look out for one another, but when it comes down to it, everyone is looking out for their own dollar. So 🤷
I don't really get you guys. He didn't steal anything. It’s like if I messed up and typed in the wrong account number while paying my PG&E bill through online banking. At that point, whether he pays it back or not is just down to his own conscience. As for that footage of him picking his nose in the bank? That’s just a video of a guy picking his nose or taking money someone handed him—it isn't proof of theft. A teller at my local Chase branch told me once: it's entirely up to your own good will if you return it or not. What would the bank even sue him for? Because he showed up at the branch on a specific day at a specific time and withdrew $333 that was sitting right there in his account? Please. You didn't force anyone to process a deposit instead of a withdrawal. Period. Take the cash and run. $667 is a lot of money, especially for someone struggling to cover utility bills or car registration or whatever.
Just throw the first page—the cover and all that—into one document, put the Table of Contents in a second, and the Abstract in a third. Problem solved. 😉 Once you hit page four, just start your numbering from 1 there. It’s easily the easiest way to handle it. No need to mess around with page breaks.
I’ve been digging through the forums, and I know a link exists somewhere. I just don't want anything bundled with Spyware or any of that junk. There was definitely a link posted here at some point.
I’ve got an installer for Kazaa 2.1 sitting here. Is that version safe to use?
I’m feeling restless. Maybe I’m pregnant or something? 😁 You never really know, right? Honestly, I kind of just want to go get an ultrasound just for the hell of it. Just to be sure, so I don't end up one day... well, you know, freaking out and shaking like a leaf when things get real. 😁 It’s nothing. Or at least, I don't think it is. Even if something did happen, my body would probably just fight it off. I'll read up on all this later. I've got much better things to do tomorrow!😎
Does anyone actually have a clue what their healthcare rights are? Like, which services are covered and which ones hit your wallet, and which insurance policy actually applies? I’m a student, so I went ahead and renewed my coverage card and grabbed a pamphlet from the social security office that basically said everything is free. Then my wife talks to someone at the local clinic and gets a completely different story. It’s a mess. Nobody seems to know what we're entitled to. Now the doctors are trying to charge extra and telling us a third version of reality. Does anyone know exactly what students are expected to pay for medical services? A buddy told me we all get two full physicals a year, no questions asked. I remember back when the doctors were threatening to strike, they promised they'd do things by the book—meaning detailed exams that would take at least 30 minutes per patient. Are we entitled to things like a color Doppler ultrasound? Just for preventative maintenance, you know, so I don't end up saying "oops, I didn't realize" later. Is that covered or not? What about a CT scan? Is that out of pocket or free? Or any other kind of screening? Every doctor says prevention is better than a cure, so why aren't they offering these tests in the first place? Do we even have the right to ask? Let them be annoyed if they want.
Fine, just live in a sterile bubble then and enjoy yourself! Do you have any idea how much radiation that monitor blasted you with while you were typing all those posts? I drink at least 5 liters of Diet Coke a day and I’m doing just fine! Seriously, quit the warpath and stop spreading nonsense. If you're allergic to every single ingredient, that's on you. You don't need to go out of your way making ads for different companies. Nobody has dropped dead from chewing gum yet. Maybe you'll be the first one! 😠
