Omicron variant in Coronavirus ·
boldotter2 said:Omicron seems to be hitting way less hard than Delta did. According to Alice: View on twitter
It’s a big deal that this milder trend is showing up across all age groups. Most people, whether they're vaccinated or not—kids or seniors—seem to get out of the hospital within about five days.

So, when you look at that alongside
https://fortune.com/2021/12/13/omicr...irst-surfaced/
the idea that the Omicron wave in New York City might already be peaking,

it gives off some pretty optimistic vibes, I guess.

The catch is that Omicron spreads about 3 to 4 times faster. That means we're looking at a massive surge in hospital volume—instead of seeing an extra 100 patients a day, you might see 400, which could basically break any local healthcare system in just a few days.
When that happens, it doesn't just strain the hospitals; it hits primary care and emergency services too, since everyone will need testing regardless of their vaccination status. We're essentially starting from scratch, but with a much heavier wave of sick people hitting us at once.

That said, even if it did originate right there, I’d say your level of anxiety is roughly comparable to worrying about a random meteor hitting your house.

Second, this thing spreads three to four times faster than Delta. Even worse, unlike previous variants, it seems it's spreading through ventilation systems too—think airplanes, ships, office buildings, malls—which has been confirmed by the relevant authorities in the European Union and the UK. You have people who were vaccinated and tested boarding a plane, maintaining distance, testing negative upon landing, and then developing full-blown symptoms just two or three days later.

But wait, was every single vaccinated person actually tested? And was the specific test they used even capable of detecting this particular strain?

Look, we already know that vaccinated individuals are far more susceptible to Omicron than they were to Delta, so if not everyone was tested, or if the tests themselves couldn't catch Omicron, that offers a much more logical explanation than suggesting the virus is somehow fundamentally changing its physical particle properties. The coronavirus spreads via aerosols, which means any filter capable of blocking Delta should inherently block Omicron, because the virus resides in droplets of essentially the same size regardless of the strain.

Of course, that assumes the filter was functioning correctly in the first place. If it wasn't, then a single infected person could be responsible for a massive outbreak.

Third, the best example comes from Norway, where at a Christmas party for about a hundred people, over eighty of them caught Omicron. Every single one of them was vaccinated and perfectly healthy until that moment. This proves the virus is successfully bypassing the efficacy of the vaccines. Being vaccinated versus unvaccinated is effectively the same thing here.

They aren't shutting down the UK for no reason... they know the danger is real and that anything could happen.

And remember, when we were all warning that the emergence of a variant like this was inevitable, we were just dismissed as conspiracy theorists...

Exactly. But it also makes you wonder—how long was that strain actually circulating in the JAR before they even confirmed it? Especially since the symptoms were so mild... could it have been around for months?

Listen, maybe tell that to the people who actually died from Omicron—you know, the ones for whom it wasn't exactly "mild" or "nothing to worry about." Is it really worth acting like it's no big deal?

Do you really think Norway is some chaotic mess where everyone just does whatever they want and rules are basically suggestions? The data shows about 72% are fully vaccinated—plus another ten percent with at least one dose—so they’re actually leading the pack. Besides, tell me... where exactly are the "privileged" ones getting tested before they even step into their offices? And what kind of test besides a PCR could even detect Omicron anyway?

Everyone coming in from the JAR area had a COVID pass and a negative PCR test—everyone. That was the absolute requirement just to board the plane.
People started showing symptoms right after they stepped off the plane. I think maybe 30% of the passengers were affected—so, what does that tell you? It basically means there wasn't any other way to catch it besides being on that flight—likely through aerosols circulating in the ventilation system.

One person is enough, but they can infect a whole crowd in a really short window. Now the real question is how many people spread that strain in the meantime? Here in the States, vaccinated folks don't get tested—and honestly, it's the same in plenty of other countries too. The door is wide open for it to spread.

I'm worried this variant is just the start of a whole new series of Omicron-based mutations. The real question is—how dangerous will they get? And then, before we know it, another one pops up on the other side of the world, and so on...

And honestly, looking at the data right now, it’s tracking lower than Delta did.

There's more than one layer to this problem—really, it goes quite deep.
First off—since the virus is mutating within a population where HIV is already extremely prevalent—there’s no way to be certain we haven't missed a piece of the puzzle. What if this next mutation—and let's face it, more are likely coming—finds a way to bypass or crash a person's immune system upon entry? If that happens, and mild symptoms are followed by sudden nausea or a total immune collapse... things could get incredibly dangerous.
It’s spreading 3 to 4 times faster than Delta—which is pretty scary, honestly. And what's even worse? Unlike the previous variants, it seems like this one is traveling through ventilation systems—think airplanes, ships, offices, or malls... things that have been confirmed by officials over in the European Union and the UK. I've heard stories of people—fully vaccinated and tested—boarding a plane, keeping their distance, testing negative right after landing, and then suddenly developing symptoms just two or three days later. Isn't that wild?
The third—and honestly the best—example comes from Norway. At a Christmas party for about a hundred people, over 80 of them ended up catching Omicron. Every single one was vaccinated, and everyone was perfectly healthy leading up to it. It just goes to show that the virus can bypass the vaccine's effects. Is there even a difference between being vaccinated or not at this point?

They aren't shutting down the Fed for no reason... they know there's a real risk out there—and anything could happen.

Here's a little update from Botswana

https://mobile.twitter.com/YoSoyNoCo...42406170275849

And this is the official—confirmed—report regarding the new strain over in Hong Kong

https://www.news.gov.hk/eng/2021/11/...02145_582.html

Long story short—Alpha was hitting the elderly hard, Delta is targeting kids, and now "Nu"—which they've renamed "Omicron"—seems to love the warmth, so it's going after middle-aged folks and spreading through the air (think HVAC systems, AC, hallways...). It builds up, shifts, and then—BOOM!!!

By the way, we're seeing the first cases in Turkey too, thanks to people traveling from Egypt... as for the European Union, it's currently France and Belgium, plus the UK.

vividraven79 said:Is anyone actually pushing you to go into debt?
All this is going to end up just shrinking people's credit limits, which is really just asking for more trouble down the road.

Nobody's forcing you to go into the red—but if you want to receive a paycheck, you practically have to maintain an open account at a bank. You end up paying fees instead of the bank paying you interest for letting them hold your money. Honestly? I wouldn't mind getting my salary in cash every month. Just plain and simple. I don't need installments, overdrafts, or loans... but then again, how would the banks stay in business?
It’s just a dirty relationship between local sharks—in the form of banks—and the Federal Reserve, which wants to act like they're being fair while playing both sides. They won't crack down on banks when they hike interest rates four times higher than the rest of the world, but they'll definitely come after a client for using an overdraft the bank approved themselves. It's strictly a "bank vs. customer" game.

That's pretty much it—reducing internal debt is one of the requirements for moving toward a unified currency. And let's face it, it's much easier to squeeze the sheep who are already heading to the slaughter than it is to deal with the wolves to keep the mountain peaceful.

But look, if you’re going to try and frame your wide range of issues and total lack of class as some kind of "expert" psychological insight—which, honestly, is just an insult to the profession and people like Mr. Vukušić—then maybe you should just reach out to him directly and ask for help. I’m being dead serious here, not sarcastic. People like you really do need support. Not even just for yourselves, but because the aggression and raw hostility you're putting out can be pretty toxic for everyone else around you.

The way you write makes it pretty obvious you’re probably a regular at Mr. Vukušić's office—so, for your own sake, my advice is to show him this thread. Anger management, venting frustrations, dealing with internal conflicts... he could actually help you with all of that. Seriously. It would make things easier.
Maybe you'll eventually realize that all the nastiness, the rudeness, and the rage in this thread are just coming from your own head—from your own writing and your own frustrations. No one else here has said a single mean thing. Just take a break, breathe, and come back when you're feeling more like yourself. It’ll be easier to write once you remember this is a forum meant for everyone, not just a place for you and your anger. 🙂😘
rapidhound2 said:How much nonsense can you actually fit into one short post? Honestly, it takes someone operating at a much more primitive level than Jerry Robinson56 to pull that off...

This much—? Just a bunch of nonsense—honestly, why even bother? You can only write something that short if you're actually there—I mean, isn't that just how it works? It’s just... even more primitive than that—back to some sort of wild, basic level? From Jerry Robinson56. When you deal with someone like that— Just some wild, primitive positions—if you know what I mean. He thinks he can just throw around a word like "civilization"—as if he actually knows what that means? It’s honestly kind of wild... Hitler giving a sermon—can you even imagine? Talk about love, brotherhood, and equality for everyone on the planet—regardless of gender, race, nationality, or religion. Just because I’m just now jumping into this thread doesn't mean I don't get it—or that I know any less than the folks who have been hanging out here for years. It's just basic logic, really. This level of savagery and pure primitivism—honestly, how is this even possible? You're acing Elementary Logic—nice work. You've got 33 posts under your belt now, which is actually a bit more than me. Does that somehow serve as a definitive proof of what you know or don't know? Of course not—but since you clearly seem to think it does, it’s pretty ironic that you’re acting this condescending given you've only written 33 posts. At the end of the day, it doesn't even matter who has the stronger arguments regarding the incident involving Jerry Robinson56; what really matters is... Jerry Robinson56's sexist outburst was just wild—honestly, where does that even come from? It’s not exactly obvious—is it? I’m still absolutely fuming at those sexist savages—honestly, they make him look like a saint by comparison.

Anyway—thanks for putting that all down in writing. Just a pile of sexist, barbaric, primitive trash.I mean, yeah—right? These kinds of toxic outbursts—they’re honestly perfect fodder for some deep sociological and psychological analysis, aren't they?I've noticed a few instances here lately where people are handing out red cards way too easily—for much, much less than what actually warrants it... don't you think? All that stuff you laid out above—I honestly wonder what’s going to happen this time—really. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that the outcome depends entirely on who ends up judging the case... you know, like having some stranger decide which category your trash belongs in? Just some pseudo-intellectual poser—honestly, what a joke..

Sarnavka, are you seeing this? If not—maybe someone should probably give you a heads-up? I mean, hasn't that Istanbul Convention been ratified yet?

Just wanted to make sure this "original" doesn't get lost—quoted it so everyone can see.

Hitler? Please. This is just a mountain of nonsense—honestly, it’s even more primitive than some of the savages hanging out on this forum. We're looking at a level of sheer savagery and lack of civility that's hard to wrap my head around. It’s just a pile of sexist, primitive garbage... though, I suppose these kinds of outbursts make for interesting material if you're into sociological or psychological studies. Honestly, there are people out there who are even more sexist and primal than Hitler himself. Just how much trash does your overexcited, quasi-intellectual sycophant need to dump before we call it what it is?

It’s a shame—you went from a lighthearted joke to this total meltdown, and honestly? It just shows where you stand. It’s pretty wild how much anger and frustration you can dump onto a minor disagreement after just one post pointing out you were wrong. You can try blaming Jerry Robinson56, me, or whoever else—but you’re the one who dug this hole. Now that everything's out in the open, I guess you can just sit there and enjoy all that "beauty" and "genius" you claim to have.
Nobody here has actually insulted you—not even once. Honestly, just look at what you wrote. It’s pretty embarrassing for a 40-year-old woman who should be acting mature and composed, but instead, this reads like a frustrated outburst from someone totally out of touch—full of nothing but venting (especially about sexual stuff, if we're being honest) and sounding like someone on the verge of a breakdown, playing the quasi-feminist card, and just feeling unloved. I won't give you a formal psychological assessment—even though that's my actual profession—but as a friend? You really ought to seek some help before you end up sitting across from me or one of my colleagues in an official capacity.
Best, ☕
rapidhound2 said:When someone runs out of actual arguments, they just resort to disgusting sexism—is that really the best we can do?
I honestly don't know—maybe we just need more clarity on the whole situation? It feels like everyone is talking at once, but nobody is actually saying anything meaningful—does that make sense to anyone else?

In case anyone tries to edit their post before we get to it, let's just quote the part that's causing all the trouble:

Most of us have been hanging around here for years—while you’re still pretty much the new kid on the block... does that really mean we've read through so much nonsense already that you aren't even interesting anymore?
I'm talking about the head— Legs are just a whole different story—really..

I'd say this... It’s just such gross, primitive behavior—and honestly, it's pretty hard to stomach when people are being that offensive. They deserve way more than just a red card—I mean, did we really see that? There were some really lovely examples of men giving roses to women here yesterday—just little gestures that meant a lot, you know?

Well, here we go—we've even got examples like this one. Absolute madness.

If that "1980" in your handle means you’re around that age—and let's assume you aren't just trying to pay tribute to J. B. Tito or pull some other "intellectual" stunt—then this whole reaction is just... well, it's a bit much. For someone with forty years of life under their belt, acting this outraged is honestly kind of embarrassing? You're reacting to Jerry Robinson56 like he actually insulted your entire extended family or threatened them with violence and worse. If that were actually the case, we'd be calling it "vile primitivism," right? But let's be real—no one here is ever going to experience anything like that from him.

He mentioned:
Most of us have been hanging around here for years—whereas you just arrived... which basically means we've already read enough nonsense to last a lifetime, right? You're almost not even interesting—honestly?.
I mean the head—just thinking about the head. But legs—those are a whole different story.

So, looks like you "accidentally" left out the sentence that came right before this—wasn't that just a coincidence?Honestly, the level of your question is just kind of ridiculous—is this really what we're doing? Someone already put it perfectly—your eyes just adjust to the brightest light around, so you won't be able to see anything once it drops below a certain level. It’s just how it works, right?
blinded by the science—I’m guessing you already know why The is here?

Could you be a sweetheart and drop the link? I’m standing by my claim—mostly because I actually know a thing or two about how electromagnetic waves propagate, how they're generated, and how that transmission is received. So, let's keep going—feel free to double-check whatever you want. I really do appreciate the effort you're putting in, but honestly? You're heading down the wrong path...
"
Was that also a case of sexism—just wondering? 🤷

Unless you’ve spent basically your entire life in total isolation—away from any kind of male company, whether that's friends, coworkers, or even just social circles (which, honestly, your reaction makes me wonder)—what he actually meant was: We see these types of people all the time—someone pops in with maybe thirty posts, drops one or two "expert" opinions, and suddenly acts like they own the place—as if this whole thread and everything on this forum started the second they typed their first word? And when people don't agree, they immediately pivot to personal attacks. Honestly, just read the thread before jumping in. What you're saying is just a recycled version of the same unverified, incorrect nonsense we've seen a thousand times already—I really don't have the energy to keep arguing this with you. Long story short: it's nonsense, and I'm done responding. If you want to keep going for whatever reason, feel free to reach out somewhere else.

I don't see anything controversial about this at all. Honestly—if you jump into a conversation and try to flirt using your own unique style—maybe people will just think you're looking for a connection? It’s that classic situation where a guy should respect a "no"—but what happens if a woman keeps pushing after being told "no"? What then? I thought Jerry Robinson56 gave a really solid answer. He left the door open if you have actual ideas to move things forward, while still being clear about how he feels about your posts. To me, your exchange is heading exactly in that direction. Besides, I haven't even jumped into the debate myself—I'm just watching from the sidelines.

Honestly, the sexism you’re talking about seems to exist mostly in your own head—just your own perception and interpretation. Any normal guy's reaction to being falsely accused of sexism by you—when you're making claims based on your own frustrations or past bad experiences rather than anything real—would just be to ignore you. Or maybe, if you keep posting stuff like this, you'll eventually just end up self-banning through sheer annoyance.

Besides, why on earth would ti tell someone they're ignorant? Like, in that specific post, claiming he doesn't know English? Is that really okay to do, especially when you don't even know him or have ever actually talked to him before? Did you just decide that based on one single post? Or are you using a burner account and you guys already know each other? Hmmm. Or maybe it's just flirting through provocation?

Or maybe the truth is simpler—you just wanted to look smart, witty, or cool to grab some attention. And then, when people didn't react the way you expected, you felt "offended" (as if they were being mean to *you*) and came here to complain and demand bans and warnings. And all of this while bringing up International Women's Day and sexism.

Nothing personal, but you're really just spinning your wheels here...
