Has anyone else dealt with a situation where a large package—something over a pound—just vanishes when sent via standard USPS mail?

I’ve sent countless packages over the years, using everything from certified mail to standard envelopes, and I’ve received plenty too, and everything has always arrived perfectly fine... until this one massive parcel sent through regular mail just disappeared into thin air.

I totally get how a small envelope, a postcard, or something light might get lost or slip out of a mailbag, and I understand that international shipments can sometimes be intercepted during customs inspections, but the idea of a large, bulky letter getting lost or someone randomly opening it to steal contents right here in the States just doesn't sit right with me.🤷
So, we actually ended up reaching a slightly different agreement 🙂. They’re going to wire the money directly to my account first, and once that clears, I’ll get the package sent out immediately.

Has anyone here used FedEx before? Since I'm packing and addressing everything myself at home, I assume the process is pretty much the same as any other shipment—just grabbing a box, some brown paper, and some twine
? And when they come by for the pickup, should I let them know the total value of the contents so they can handle the insurance properly?

It looks like this should run me about $10, which honestly seems like a totally reasonable price to pay for the peace of mind.
urbangardener0 said:My advice would be to send it as a certified letter with a "PRIORITY" option.

You really helped 😉

I just took a look at the certified mail options (I honestly thought that was only for sending cash), and I don't see any specific priority setting listed 🤷. If I include COD and that insurance value, the total postage would stay under $13. It’s really not that big of a deal.

Thanks for clearing up how the return process works, 🙂.

And of course, the USPS can't exactly shoulder the risk if a package goes uncollected—I was just thinking out loud there! Maybe I'll suggest that the buyer sends a small deposit upfront, and then I can ship it via COD so they just pay the remaining balance upon arrival. That way, we both have at least some level of protection.

How long does it typically take for the funds to actually reach me? And do I need to physically go to the post office to pick them up, or can they be deposited directly into my bank account?
I could really use some advice if anyone happens to be online on New Year's morning 😁

I need to ship a small package—it’s only about 3.5 ounces—but it’s quite valuable, worth more than $233. The buyer wants to pay via Cash on Delivery.

What would be the smartest and most secure way to handle this without getting hit by massive shipping fees?

I was looking into using FedEx, and they don't really ask me to declare the value during the process, but I noticed it says items are insured up to $1.00 by default?!
I'm still a bit confused about checking the right boxes; I select the COD option, but what does "return receipt" actually mean for me? Isn't it just standard procedure for the package to come back to me if the buyer doesn't pick it up, or do I specifically need to request that? Also, where can I indicate that the item is fragile?

Honestly, I'm feeling a little lost on how to pull this off. I'm also a bit anxious that the buyer might not show up to collect it, which would mean I'm stuck dealing with all this back-and-forth shipping for something that isn't exactly cheap.
I wouldn’t say I’m an easygoing person by nature... but it honestly drives me absolutely crazy being on strict bed rest due to my shortened cervix. There are certain people—and thank goodness for the exceptions who help me out every single day and actually understand how serious this is—who think they can lecture me. They’ll ask things like, "Well, are you dilated?" and when I explain that no, I'm not dilated, they just snap back with, "But so-and-so was dilated the whole pregnancy and didn't have to stay in bed, and she delivered right on schedule." Sneeze, as if lying around for four months while constantly worrying about my baby during my second pregnancy is some kind of dream life! 🙄 🙄
That’s wonderful. Thanks so much for all the helpful answers! 😉
It’s actually gotten so much cheaper 🙏. I remember when I used to pay $10 just to ship something to a different state.

Anyway, quick question—do I need to specify that I'm sending this package via certified mail, or will I still get that $4.25 receipt confirming it was sent if I just do it this way?
It feels like forever since I last sent out a package, so I was just browsing through the shipping rates over at HP.
Is it just me, or have the prices actually gone down? 🤔
Last time I checked, sending a package up to 5 lbs to another state would cost me $10, but looking at it now, it seems like it might only be $4.25???

I mean, does anything in this country ever actually get cheaper?
I need to give my local mail carrier a call, but I'm not entirely sure which rate to ask about anymore. Is it $4.25 for a package under 5 lbs with a value up to $33, and will I still get that printed receipt confirming it was sent?
Anyone else struggle with long movies? in Movies ·
Well, I think I’m actually going to back up the theory 😁
I honestly find it pretty tough to sit through long movies, regardless of whether they're absolute masterpieces or total flops.
After about two hours, I usually feel 😵 completely restless... and it isn't because my attention span is failing me (because if a movie is truly gripping, I can stay focused easily), but rather because the pacing tends to drag way too much for me. Personally, I just want things to move a bit faster 🤣
I need to ship out a jacket—well, more of a light coat. I’m planning on boxing it up and wrapping it securely.
Does anyone happen to know what the shipping costs look like since we're both located in the same region? I want to give the girl buying it an accurate heads-up.
I did try looking through the pricing guide on the USPS website, but I'm still feeling a little bit lost, so I figured I'd reach out and get some first-hand advice from you all.

Up until now, I've mostly just been sending much smaller items.
Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
I actually started getting my period when I was just 14, but it wasn't until I hit 20 that I experienced my first truly painful cycle (I remember the exact date, too).
That’s still pretty much how it goes for me today... the first day feels like I'm literally dying, and then once that initial wave passes, everything settles down. I always reach for Advil—I usually take just one, maybe two if the pain doesn't start to let up by the evening. There were a few months during that time where I actually managed to tough it out without any medication, but honestly, pushing through like that used to wear me down so much that I genuinely felt like I wasn't going to make it. Once I finally do take the pill, though, the pain usually subsides after a couple of hours. My only real fear is that one day, the Advil just won't work anymore.

Oh, I can't stop laughing at how cute that was!
I’ve noticed my right side is actually quite a bit larger than my left.
My little workaround is pretty simple: I just grab the extra cushion from the right side of the laundry basket and shove two of them over to the left side. 😂 😂
...honestly, I don't know how I come up with these clever little tricks...
Even my husband mentioned that he prefers the larger side, though I eventually realized he always ends up gravitating toward whichever one is bigger anyway! 🤣
I made sure to tell him that he better make sure to give the smaller side some extra love and attention so it can grow just as big as the right side!
Zohan is the best! in Movies ·
I’d definitely suggest watching this one with a good group of friends and maybe a few light drinks on hand😁. It’s a solid flick with some really fun bits—perfect if you just want to turn your brain off and unwind for a bit.
My only real gripe is that it feels a little long for this kind of movie. I found myself totally hooked during the first hour, but my interest started to taper off as things went on...
Paralyzed by indecision in Psychology ·
Hey Pol Pot, I feel like I could almost quote most of your posts word-for-word and just sign my name at the bottom 🙂.
I’ve always been quite indecisive, though I really try to limit those moments to a minimum. Even small things can be a struggle—like trying to decide which brand of laundry detergent to grab at Target. I find myself weighing every single variable, from the price point and volume to the manufacturer, treating the decision with this intense perfectionism as if my entire life depended on making the "correct" choice... it's just how my brain works when I'm in organizer mode.

My husband actually helps me navigate this quite a bit. I’ve started handing over all the "trivial" decisions to him, deciding ahead of time that whatever he picks will be perfectly fine with me... and honestly, any 😁 usually works out great! Most of our bigger choices are made through long talks together anyway. However, when it comes to decisions that affect only me—mostly stuff related to my career—I still find myself struggling to pull the trigger on my own.

That tendency toward being indecisive is just part of who you are, and it isn't going to vanish overnight. What you really need to do is start taking small risks and just make the call, while learning to embrace the consequences. At the end of the day, it's those consequences that seem to worry both of us the most.
