Could you perhaps share a link to a reputable club or provide the contact number for a qualified instructor?
I have been searching through the forums extensively, yet I have found that no one has specifically detailed these particular matters, so if anyone possesses such knowledge, I kindly ask for your response.
Thank you.

There’s plenty of it out there if you actually take the time to read... honestly, the ninjutsu thread is one of the biggest ones on this entire subforum.

To give you the short version. In the US, there are basically two main federations you'll run into: Bujinkan and Genbukan.

Bujinkan:
a) The Tešić brothers (don't have all their specifics handy) and
b) Dean Rostohar (and his students) www.ninjutsu.com
Genbukan
Zlatko Majhen—I think he's based out of somewhere near Chicago, maybe the 25th pavilion area.

Hopefully, talking to the students of those instructors will get you more of what you're looking for...🙂

I’m honestly not even surprised by stuff like this anymore; it’s just become part of the everyday landscape here in America.🙂

Carol Alvarez2 said:Hey guys, seriously though, I’m asking this for real

If you look at the local MMA gyms, they cover pretty much everything you listed—Karate, Taekwondo, Krav Maga. The one thing they won't really drill into you, though, is the actual throwing mechanics...😉 Maybe try mixing things up? Take one of those striking arts and pair it with some Judo or wrestling on the other side?

When it comes to Aikido, a lot of people will disagree with me, but I’m certainly not one of them...😬

I have a question for you experts out there—what would you recommend in terms of martial arts? To be clear, I’m not really looking for judo or anything involving grappling. I’m searching for something more rhythmic, almost akin to dance... if that makes sense? More like "karate-dance." I’m not quite sure how to put it into words—I remember watching an old movie years ago that featured this exact style.

If you know exactly what I’m referring to, please let me know! If my explanation is a bit muddled, then that’s on me—I’m having a little trouble articulating it properly. Thanks!

Sean Barnes6 said:Hey, does anyone know if there's anywhere to train Jeet Kune Do in the area? I guess maybe somewhere near downtown?
I was scouring the web for absolutely nothing, I guess.

I remember seeing some guy on this forum—I think he was from somewhere out west like Portland—who used to train Jeet Kune Do. I can't quite recall which thread it was, maybe sometime in the latter half of last year...🙂

Knocked out...

Two new branches have just joined the Black Dragon – Alliance association...

16 Franjo Lučić Promenade, Greater Houston...
Instructors: Dubravko Čolić, purple belt; Damir Mirenić, blue belt...
Just a quick heads-up regarding the training schedule for those interested... we'll be running sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 PM, and then again on Saturdays at 5:00 PM...
You can reach me at 555-019-8724 if you need anything else... I don't have access to private email addresses or any personal contact information from the forums. If you're looking for someone specific, your best bet is probably just to send them a direct message through the site if they're active... though I can't guarantee anyone will actually see it.

Just to be clear here, we're talking about BJJ, so there isn't any confusion...

Justin Watson58's recommendations—you really ought to take a look at those if you want to stay ahead of the curve...👍

It’s not "Istog," it’s Istok.
That’s K. Bagadura’s club. It's located at 30 Barun Filipović Approach; the entrance to the hall is through the courtyard side of the local vocational school. The number was 01 / 3665-177, and the mobile number used to be 098 1664661, though I can't guarantee it's still active. They used to hold training sessions every day after 8:00 PM, but you should probably call ahead just in case things have changed. Honestly, it's not that I don't praise 😁 but that’s easily the best Wing Chun club in the city, if not the whole region...

But wait, this link lists the address over on Drvinja!? Maybe they moved and I just haven't heard. Give them a ring...
What's the limit on private messages? in Forum Help! ·
Come on, give me a break...☕ Seventy-five is already way more than enough. Honestly, if I were calling the shots, I’d cap it at twenty-five. If your inbox starts getting cluttered, just clear out the old stuff; or, if you’re the type who gets sentimental about every single message, just save them to your hard drive as a .txt or .csv file... easier that way. If they really wanted to be generous, they should just bump the storage capacity to 1,000 messages, resize the avatars to a standard 200x200, and let us have signatures up to 1,500 characters—maybe even throw in some old-school Flash animations for good measure... let the server crash for all I care...

Yeah, you’d think so, especially since everyone is on the same side with the same goals, but clearly, some people just love being difficult. 😬 It’s a shame it all went down so fast...

Robin Palmer3, welcome to the argument club. 😉

I managed to record that session featuring Smith and the Ban, and I’ve uploaded it to the usual spot. If you aren't sure where to find it, just shoot me a DM.

In my view, Smith definitely had the stronger arguments, though the debate itself felt a bit unfinished. As for the Ban🙄 well, we were all being a little slippery...

But honestly, I’m still going to swap out my interface. I need one that lets me record directly through the mic...
mostly for adding some audio effects to my indie films. 🤣

So, we're talking low-budget American action flicks now?

mistycrane14 said:My current setup can't even handle microphone input. Literally.
And since this rig is ancient, there isn't even an input jack.
I definitely need to upgrade my sound card ASAP. 😬
For now, I’m just recording everything on my phone and converting it to MP3, which is surprisingly listenable, if you don't mind the quality.

I tried using a standard sound recorder app, but no luck there either.

NOTE: whatever you do, stay far away from those cheap generic sound cards you find at big-box retailers.

If there isn't a dedicated audio input, there should at least be a headphone jack. You just need the right cable, and if your sound card has an integrated chip—which mine does, so yours probably should too—you'd usually see three ports, one of which serves as the audio in. It might just be a matter of adjusting your settings...
KIIS FM Dojo in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
mistycrane14 said:Thanks, I'll give that a shot! 👍
I actually have a little trick for getting recordings longer than a minute.
Just drop a long track into the timeline, hit record, and you're good to go.
It’s an old method of mine, so my apologies if I missed anything earlier...

Personally, I just use a standard setup. I run the line out from my device straight into my sound card. I use Adobe Audition—since that's what I have on hand, though any software works—and just start recording. Since my sound card is basically just the cheap integrated kind and my cables aren't exactly high-end, there’s a bit of background hiss, but the audio comes through clearly enough. Once I'm done, I just export it as an MP3...

If you're looking for something that will quickly prepare you for common street encounters, I might suggest Krav Maga. You could check out www.kravmaga.com or maybe just do a quick Google search; I'm not entirely sure. If I recall correctly, someone runs a school over by the convention center.

Sandra Johnson58 said:So, here’s my situation. I’m 19 and really looking to get into BJJ. I'm based in the Chicago area, so I was wondering where all the clubs are at and if they actually take older beginners? Also, I’d love some advice—like, is BJJ or just submission grappling something that's actually safe to jump into? I'm not even talking about injuries, mostly just wondering about my build. I’m pretty tall, like 6'8", and weigh about 205 lbs, so I guess I'm wondering if being that tall is gonna be a total headache for wrestling-style sports.
I'm genuinely curious about this, but then again, if I’m way too tall, I doubt any real pro would recommend anything else that might fit me better.

Thanks in advance!

I'm really interested in training some kind of martial art..
something........
that's full contact, but without the head strikes.........(I'd rather not end up looking like a bruised pumpkin....) ????
Since I am a total newbie to all of this........
could someone please
give me some suggestions for places located in Chicago?

If you're a college student—maybe check out Muay Thai over in Evanston...
If you just want to tone up and lose a little bit of weight around the hips, honestly, a fitness club might be better; most of them have heavy bags and "kickboxing" classes

Actually, what’s the end goal here? It's probably best if we start there.😎
