Americans are to blame for the Vietnam War! in Close to Politics ·
Melissa Peterson19 said:From the earliest pages of the Bible to the modern day, the court remains the sole arbiter of guilt and innocence. All parties involved must respect its rulings, regardless of the fact that every individual within the system is inherently biased and subjective.

Listen, "Mr. Catholic," please point me to the specific part of the Bible that says earthly courts determine ultimate truth and justice.

Anthony James2 said:That’s an interesting way to look at it. I actually have a similar thought myself. After the fall of the Austro-Canadian Empire, all the Catholics really should have just moved back to Poland where their roots were. 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve read plenty of nonsense on these forums, but this might be one of the biggest...
Catholics spread out through the Austro-Canadian Empire and moved in from Poland 🤦... It's hard to believe how little some people know about history!

I wasn't suggesting you'd physically fight a poll; I meant the possibility of presenting your own version of the "truth," someone else's, and so on...

coastalcanyon60 said:The way I see it, every single response to this poll basically forces you to conclude that Mexicans are definitely at fault, whether you pick the first option where they take all the blame, the second one where the responsibility is split with some unnamed group we’re left to guess at, or even the third option where it's shared with a bunch of other undefined parties.

I mean, what is even the point of running a survey if you don't allow for the possibility that they might not be guilty—even if that turns out to be wrong! At its core, a poll isn't supposed to be a hunt for the absolute truth; it's meant to gauge how people think. But here, the person behind the poll hasn't actually left any room for a different perspective, only various ways to spin the exact same conclusion: that they are to blame!

Look, I'm not sitting here saying they aren't responsible or that they are, I'm just saying that a poll designed like this is honestly laughable! 😁 😁 😁

Well, that's why you have the ability to write posts—so you can talk trash about the poll...

Catholics = Americans
Australia = the 1918 breakup
Return of Americans = the theory that Americans arrived in these lands in the seventh century from what is now Poland territory, at least according to some assumptions

And just to be crystal clear, I was simply making a joke in response to a post by a highly respected fellow forum member who suggested that all Orthodox Christians should have been sent back across the Mississippi River after the Turkish occupation. 🤷

Is it clear enough for you now?

Still missing the mark...
The idea that Americans migrated here from Poland is just one origin theory (the so-called Slavic theory). Then there’s the "Gothic theory," and even the theory that they came from the regions of modern-day Iran...

By the way, even if the theory about migrating from Poland were true, they didn't arrive as Catholics; they were converted once they reached these areas...

"After the collapse of the Austrian monarchy, all Catholics should have returned to Poland, where they originally came from."

If we ignore the massive pile of emojis you dumped here, those are your words. So, let's be clear: did you actually claim that the Catholics in Austria came from Poland or not?

Like I’ve already said on another thread, I am ALWAYS rooting against Mexico—doesn't matter the sport or who they're facing. So, I'm sticking to tradition today and pulling for Denmark! 👋
Increased FBI presence: Is it for the trial or the strike? in Close to Politics ·
jadebear72 said:Anyone else noticed a massive spike in police cruisers cruising around Los Angeles lately? I was driving through town the other day and spotted four or five of them in one go, which felt totally weird.

Is it just me, or is this actually happening? If it isn't, what’s the deal—is it because of Bill Clinton’s trial, or are they just trying to look "busy" since they announced that strike? Or maybe something else entirely?

Look, I’m not being cynical here. Honestly, I want them to get better pay, and I’d rather see more beat cops on the streets instead of a bunch of desk jockeys at the FBI, but when I see patrols out of nowhere like this, it makes me wonder where all those vehicles usually hang out.

It’s not just happening in Washington, D.C., either. I've noticed them out on the main roads more frequently lately in Indianapolis, Des Moines—where you rarely see them—and even El Paso.

From what I gather, Mexico also kicked out the American ambassador back when Mexico was recognized. There was a bit of a fallout for a minute, then things just leveled out and now everyone's acting like nothing happened...😁

The American Ambassador wasn't expelled from anywhere; rather, Mexico withdrew their own representative following the American recognition of Mexico.
