How to be a good person without being a doormat in Psychology ·
I’m stuck wondering if I’m the problem or if everyone else is just exhausting.

I have a middle-aged family member who has become incredibly draining lately. He’s constantly hovering, asking me to fix something on his computer, phone, or TV. I’m not some tech genius myself, so I have to spend my own time researching how to solve his "emergencies" before I can even help him. It used to be occasional; now it’s practically every three days. I walk through the door after work, and there he is. He wants to install an app, connect his laptop to the TV, move icons on his desktop, or needs me to explain why a certain pop-up is a scam. Then it's setting up profiles, downloading this app, then that one—he’s always breaking something. It always starts with, "I just need five minutes," but I’ll be lucky if it doesn't eat up an entire hour.

Maybe I’m the crazy one, but I don't touch things I don't understand. If I don't know how to do something, I pay a professional to handle it. If I want to bring cookies to the office for a birthday, I go to Starbucks or a bakery and buy them. I don't corner people I know who bake as a hobby and demand they make them for me to deliver.
I'm so over these "toxic positivity" people in Psychology ·
I don't mind people being happy and riding high, but everything needs its time and place.

For example, it drives me crazy when you bring up a struggle—say, "work is absolutely killing me"—and instead of actually listening, they just start bragging. They’re all like, "Oh, my job is perfect! My boss is a total legend and everyone gets along so well..."

Look, show a little empathy for the people who aren't having such a flawless time.

Personally, my goal is just to not kill the mood. I don't have the energy required to be the designated cheerleader.
Hey

Two weeks ago, I had surgery to remove a lump on my hand. I’ve been heading back to my local clinic every couple of days for dressing changes, and I was supposed to get the stitches out today. But a few days ago, the area around the wound started swelling up. My doctor drained it a bit—some pus mixed with blood came out—and sent me straight to a surgeon. The surgeon basically told me it’s nothing to worry about. Also, because the bandage around my arm was too tight, my circulation was shot and my palm turned purple. The surgeon just ripped off the old bandage, slapped on some surgical tape, and told me to check back Monday.

Here’s the deal: can I just change this bandage myself if I pick up some supplies, or should I head back to my primary care doctor? And does the wound actually need more cleaning? At the clinic, they were rinsing it with saline and applying ointment, but the surgeon just taped it shut. I need to know if I can handle this on my own or if I should swing by the doctor tomorrow to make sure things don't go south.
Quick update

Stopped by my primary care doctor today since my appointment is tomorrow and I couldn't get anyone to pick up the phone. Of course, I rolled in just a minute after they closed. Turns out my referral is only valid for six months and I need a new one. I won't even get into the insults and sheer rudeness the nurse threw at me. She was clearly halfway out the door already. Honestly, I don't know what I did to deserve being treated like that, especially by a healthcare professional.

Fun fact: when I booked the appointment, nobody bothered to mention I’d need a new referral, even though the dates clearly showed the old one wouldn't cover it. Not that the doctor mentioned it either while handing me the paperwork, despite knowing how long the waitlist for this specific procedure is. To top it off, the clinic called me two weeks ago just to remind me about the appointment, and naturally, they said nothing about the referral status.

Now I'm just hoping everything goes smoothly so I don't have to deal with any more of the absolute nonsense in our healthcare system. 🙂
Hey

I got my referral for an exam about six months ago and went straight to the hospital’s central scheduling office. They gave me an appointment for six months out and handed me some printed confirmation. Basically, do I need to get a new referral, or am I good to go with the one I already have?
Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Hey

So here’s the situation: someone is expecting an international wire transfer into their US dollar account. According to the payment confirmation sent by the sender, the recipient's address is completely wrong—I'm talking a totally different street, even if the city is correct. It’s not just a typo; it's a different location entirely. Everything else looks solid, though: IBAN, SWIFT code, full name, all that stuff.

Is this going to cause issues with the funds clearing? And if things go sideways, who should we be hitting up—the bank or the sender?
Hip pain help? in Health ·
Lately, my hips have been acting up. It usually kicks in right after I drink water in the morning—like if I knock back two glasses immediately after waking up. The pain is pretty gnarly, though it doesn't linger forever.

Is this actually normal, or should I be looking for a deeper cause?
Exercise Addiction in Psychology & Therapy ·
I’m getting absolutely zero endorphin rush after my workouts. All I feel is pure exhaustion. Is this normal, and how do I fix it?
