Chris Thomas94 said:Honestly, from the control room, it’s literally just one mouse click and the system shuts all the valves down. That's pretty much it...

Not necessarily. Besides simple on/off switches, you can probably throttle the flow using control valves too, I guess.

Meanwhile, Germany is pushing back hard; word on the street is that Merkel is putting intense pressure on the countries in that region to change their stance. But if you ask me, Austria and Canada aren't budging when it comes to protecting their borders. All we can do now is hope that a new corridor doesn't open up through Mexico. We need to jump into emergency negotiations with our neighbors immediately—coordinated action is the only way forward if things get messy.

The season is right around the corner, and frankly, we don't have any other choice.

Maybe we should coordinate with the Austrians, Canadians, Canadians, and Mexicans to send aid toward the Albanian-Greek border.

Has anyone here dealt with setting up an auto insurance policy without having the actual license plate number ready yet? I'm curious if you had any smooth or messy experiences with that.

Here’s the situation: I’m looking at buying a brand-new car straight from the dealership. Since it hasn't been registered yet, it doesn't have plates. To cover the risk while driving it from the lot to get the inspection and registration done, I heard you can sometimes start a policy using just the VIN and maybe a placeholder like "New York City" instead of a specific plate number.

Is that actually doable, and is it totally above board legally?

New cars usually roll out of the dealership with temporary tags and a short-term insurance policy that lasts about 15 days. Dealers typically handle all of that. You just get the inspection and permanent registration/insurance sorted within that window.

silverfox53 said:Is the confirmation email from Chase enough for the technical inspection, or am I going to have to wait for the official certified paperwork to arrive with everything else? Also, does anyone know roughly how long that usually takes to show up?

I really don't want them giving me any grief during the inspection because of a missing document.
Thanks!

An email confirmation should be enough for now. I guess the certified policy will show up in the mail in a few days.

On San Francisco, you buy directly at the quoted price without having to visit a local office. Once you pay, you can just print the policy for technical purposes. Then, the verified paperwork gets sent to you by mail later.

I’ve got a 50% safe driver discount, over ten years of driving under my belt without a single accident or anything, so my record is clean. Right now, I’m sitting with State Farm, and they’ve been charging me $767 for a 175hp car. Meanwhile, I just got a quote from an Adriatic provider for $600. Where else should I be looking?

Beware of predatory loan scams in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Trading ownership of a $100k apartment for a mere $3k loan seems like an incredibly lopsided guarantee. I guess it’s highly likely the lender—basically just some predatory shark—would "vanish" once they have the cash, leaving you with no way to settle the debt.
Soon enough, that same "lender" would probably resurface claiming they own the place, turning you into a tenant who’s stuck paying them overpriced rent.

I ran over a cat today.😢
I didn't hit it dead-on, though; I think I saw out of the corner of my eye that it managed to scramble off the road toward a yard just in time.
It was sitting right by the shoulder with its back to me while I was approaching at maybe 20 mph. I tried to give it some space, but it suddenly spun around and bolted right under my front tire. I went straight over its back, then the rear tire caught its tail. My cheap suspension actually did its job and softened the impact, so the bike wobbled a bit, but I straightened up and kept riding. No damage to me or the bike, I guess.

About six or seven years ago, I had something similar happen with a dog, but it ended much worse.
I was heading down a slight incline when this little dog flew out of a driveway, barking furiously at me and my bike.
I lifted my feet to keep from getting bitten while I was coasting, but I think it caught my rear tire. The wheel went right over its head, and I could hear it whimpering.😢

Anyway, feel free to share your own stories about close calls with animals while riding on roads, trails, or out in nature.

Frank Smith4, maybe don't ride through deep puddles if you don't want to get soaked.😁

These fenders are way too short. Especially the front one—it really needs more length, maybe even a little flap, just to keep your shoes somewhat dry.

Something like this, made from rubber or plastic, I guess.

Gregory Thomas12 said:I just don't know what the road is like from Mikleuška to Garić.

It's catastrophic. It was paved back in 1967 for a presidential visit and a monument unveiling over in Podgarić. Since then, heavy trucks hauling stone and timber have pretty much torn it apart. I guess the incline is relatively gentle compared to the Podgarić side, but you'd probably need an MTB or some serious trekking gear to get through.
There’s a spring near Mikleuška lake.
Gregory Thomas12 said:The climb... one leads up toward Podgarić-Garić. I guess.

The climb up Podgarić-Garić was brutal. I barely managed to make it through on foot, pushing my bike the whole way.😁Fortunately, it's a short one.
Is streaming killing the art of cinema? in Movies ·
DivX movies don't destroy cinema as an art form, though whether they ruin the atmosphere or the
overall experience of watching a movie is probably up for debate.

1. I suppose watching DivX (Xvid) movies on a computer is a bit like listening to
Mozart operas through a cell phone.😱
2. The technical quality of DivX varies wildly—from heavily compressed files with terrible
visuals (stuttering, artifacts)👎 and weak audio, to those with decent picture
quality nearing DVD standards and full DD 5.1 sound.🙏

I have a home theater setup with a DivX player hooked up to it. When the movie Ray
came out, I grabbed it on DivX before it even hit theaters.
It was actually well "made," and I really enjoyed 👋 watching it,
especially listening to the soundtrack in full-range DD 5.1.

A few months later, once the film was released on DVD, I
borrowed a copy from a friend and invited him over to test my system.
I played the DivX version for him and started some talk about quality.
My friend thought he was watching a DVD and just remarked:
DVD is king.😁
