I struggle with it big time. I've been online for over a decade now, and whenever I have free time, I get sucked into the digital void so hard that I rarely find the patience to sit down with a book like I used to. My attention span is basically shot. I've just become an impatient person, and yeah, it's probably because of the web. After digging through various books on the subject, you'd think it's pretty smart to just narrow things down—set these tiny, manageable, short-term goals, which is fine in its own way, but I just want to know more.
Especially regarding that whole preliminary phase involving cutting stuff out and deciding what actually matters.
Trying to cram as much knowledge as possible into the smallest window of time... yeah, that's exactly the headache I was talking about. What's the trick to unlocking that potential without it feeling like some mindless, robotic mental training session?
Maybe the move is just to step away from everything for a bit and hit the reset button? Just... chill.
Because right now, we're just gathering this massive pile of shallow knowledge. It’s okay, I guess, but how do you break out of that when you actually need to master a topic? How do you force yourself to focus only on what's strictly necessary in the moment?
Man, even while I'm typing this, I'm starting to wonder if I've totally lost the thread. Happens to me all the time. My concentration is just slipping away. 🤣
Same here. Lately, I’ve noticed my focus is shot. I read a ton, but I forget almost everything immediately. We’re drowning in information, but since we don't have to work for it, our brains are getting lazy. Subconsciously, we know we can find anything with one click, so why bother actually committing things to memory? At the same time, I wonder if it's even possible—or necessary—to absorb this much data anyway.
I’ve been using the web forever too, and lately, my memory is definitely slipping. I forget what I just read. I'm trying to fix it because whenever I need to have a real conversation or dive deep into a topic, I just can't pull the facts together.🙄

That bolded part is spot on. And regarding books, I totally get it. I have a stack of them waiting for me, but I can't commit. The internet just hijacks my brain. I'll start reading about one thing, stumble onto a random fact, start Googling, and before I know it, I have 35 tabs open and zero clue what I was originally looking for.😁
Anyone got tips on boosting memory? On my dad's side, everyone lived to be incredibly old and stayed sharp as a tack. They knew massive amounts of info, could recite childhood poems from memory, and even in their 90s, they could explain complex grammar in multiple languages. Meanwhile, lately, I can barely hold a coherent conversation on a single topic.🙄
