The start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1) in War in Ukraine ·

Russia has started cracking down on cars with Ukrainian plates. It’s a given that Ukrainian saboteurs are driving around Russia with those exact same plates... 🤣

Larry Fox5 said:I don't know if it's just rumors flying around—but Orban said he's actually going to back all the sanctions against Russia. Honestly, closing off the Bosphorus would be a massive blow to Putin. And who knows? The Chinese might just toss him under the bus sooner or later.
Cutting off Russian banks from SWIFT would basically be checkmate for him.

He totally walked himself right into this mess for no reason at all... 🤦

I can't find the specific article, but I caught something on Bloomberg suggesting Chinese banks are tightening up on business financing in Russia just to make sure they don't accidentally get caught in the crosshairs of sanctions.

So you're telling me that sanctions are actually making them stronger, rather than doing anything to stop me...🤣

Rachel Allen55 said:Sanctioning Russia just makes them feel even more independent from everyone else. What are you even going to have left to use for sanctions next time?

Everything needs balance. Even this whole situation is a delicate balancing act. Do people honestly think Americans are ready to start seeing layoffs because of these sanctions? First, it’ll be direct hits on companies doing business with Russia, and then it spirals—indirectly, then again indirectly—as businesses in other countries shut down, eventually triggering a massive crisis within the West.

And don't even get me started on the refugee issue. You'll end up with representatives in government who will have plenty to say, much like the folks in Denmark, whether it's the New Citizenry types or that nutjob Paludan. If you could hear their ideologies... they spout all this nonsense about Aryan races and claiming you're only "true" American if your family tree is 80% local heritage, counting grandparents and all that.

Am I really supposed to want a lunatic or a party like that sitting in our Parliament just because of Ukraine? To me, Ukraine isn't worth that much; it's an oligarchic state where a handful of people run the show, corruption is everywhere, and they still have some glaring questions left over from the USSR era that haven't been cleared up.

If nationalism starts taking over in the West, both the EU and NATO are toast. You wouldn't find two countries within the EU that could actually agree on anything. And all of this just for Ukraine?

What has Ukraine actually contributed to Western prosperity? Seriously, what? Nothing.

If that's the case, why didn't the Russians just sanction themselves? Didn't they want to get stronger...

As if that actually matters. You can't just cling to conventions like they're gospel when much larger interests are at play...

And what exactly are we supposed to do if that lunatic actually triggers WW3? Is there anything we can even do at that point? Send him a psychiatrist?...

No one else has even mentioned this yet, and I guess I don't really see why the Turks would even be allowed to do that

Why wouldn't they? International law basically doesn't mean much anymore when you're dealing with Russia...

Fighting against Russia until there isn't a single Ukrainian left standing.

Russia still hasn't established air superiority in Ukraine, so deliveries are technically feasible.

"Yet." They probably already have a deal in place; it's just that the Turks aren't ready to go public with it because Erdogan is still playing his hand with the negotiations...

Rachel Allen55 said:If regular folks just grab guns and try to go toe-to-toe with the Russian army—who are way more trained than anyone here—it's basically suicide.

Look, I get the patriotism and the whole "defend your home" thing, I really do, but there’s a fine line between being brave and just being plain crazy.

Zensnsky is basically sending his own people straight to the meat grinder right now. If he had any sense, he'd be jumping on the phone to negotiate with Vladimir Putin immediately, whether that happens in Minsk or some neutral spot like Finland.

In a situation like this, you should be playing the long game to save your nation, not just trying to protect your own seat at the table.

From what I can see, this Russian army operates more like a disorganized group of amateurs.

The only way they manage to make any headway is through sheer, barbaric brute force backed by heavy weaponry...

Turkey is a key NATO member, and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if an agitated Putin tries to force his way through with his fleet. Once he does, just shut down your computer and find a bunker to hide in.

Give me a break. Do you honestly believe nobody is going to take any action just because we might accidentally annoy the madman in Moscow? Are you people serious? Are we all supposed to be hostages to that bald guy's whims?

Laura Scott7 said:I mean, who else is going to flee into the middle of major cities and put civilians right in the crosshairs? That’s basically Military 101—you don't let the fighting get anywhere near urban centers, you definitely don't go running into them to use them as human shields. But sure, the second a shell hits a residential building, suddenly it's all the Russians' fault, right? Just do me a favor and actually check out some actual news sources like RT instead of just blathering on about what you *think* is happening. You can't just make stuff up and call it reality. It doesn't work that way.

Isn't the most logical solution simply for the Russians to get the hell out of Ukrainian cities and out of Ukraine entirely? Honestly, what kind of surrealist nonsense is this...

Richard Wilson4 said:Honestly, I'm betting it's just another rumor, kind of like all that stuff about the Bosphorus...

We didn't see a formal denial regarding the Bosphorus. Instead, there's just some report from a Turkish journalist claiming their contact within the Government mentioned a blockade hasn't been implemented yet. I'm fairly certain Erdogan made that promise to Zelenska, but perhaps this individual just went public a bit too soon...

Rachel Allen55 said:And how isolated is China? We all know how that regime treats minorities and stuff. Just look at Hong Kong and everything else. Yet they still host everything under the sun, including the Olympic Games and whatnot.

Russia has ignited a war in Europe that could easily escalate into a much larger military conflict. The response from the West has to be radical and uncompromising.
There’s just no room left for half-measures. Putin has made it clear he isn't interested in negotiating...

Laura Scott7 said:Honestly, it’s just a bunch of cowards from these paramilitary groups and extremists who have all retreated into the cities, basically using regular people as human shields because they know damn well that Russia Putin isn't going to go dropping airstrikes on urban centers with civilians everywhere. I mean, if there are really as many of them as they claim to be, why aren't they out there fighting on the front lines instead of hiding behind families and apartment buildings?

It’s honestly pathetic that Ukrainians don't just consult with Putin on how to properly organize their defense. Just more proof that they are the ones responsible for this war.

The reality is that Russia has set their terms for any talks—total surrender from the Ukrainian military. 🤣

I’d love to see you out on a street corner, playing the hero when you run into some massive, armed psycho staring you down. I bet all that bravado would vanish pretty quickly.

But isn't he actually the one holding all the cards here? Seriously. All of Europe is stacked against him. Except for Vučić. It's like watching some unstable kid try to take on the entire 40th Infantry Division...
