Ashley Walker56 said:How does one calculate the HOMO index? I can't seem to find any clear documentation online... 😵

The clinical utility of this calculator remains questionable at best. While the math might be sound, applying these specific hemodynamic parameters to real-world critical care often feels like an exercise in futility. It’s one thing to crunch numbers on a screen, but translating that data into actionable bedside decisions is a different matter entirely... especially when you consider how much physiological noise can skew the results. One wonders if we are actually improving outcomes or just adding more complexity to an already overwhelming workflow...

Here you go, if you managed to pull the glucose and insulin levels from those units. I'm not entirely sure if this one is accurate...
To me, that’s an endocrinologist's problem...

Olivia Jackson64 said:Your diet looks incredible. 🙂 With that kind of meal plan, things should be moving faster, though insulin resistance probably has other plans... impressive work. Respect.

I won't bore you with my food logs; there isn't much to brag about :-) I eat sweets every single day, so let's not get into the specifics... but after I deal with User, I plan on changing that.

On another note, I just had my physical. All the basic results came back fine—blood sugar, cholesterol, everything seems normal. They didn't run an insulin resistance test, though; it wasn't covered by my insurance. I think I'll ask for a referral to the Mayo Clinic to see if I actually have a diagnosis or not. I need to know if I should be worried about diabetes or if I can stop stressing. Let's settle that once and for all. 🙂

A private doctor diagnosed me with IR using the HOMA index. I saw there's a calculator available for download, but I haven't tried running it myself yet.
For me, glucose and insulin were within the normal range, but that HOMA index ratio pointed directly toward significant IR.

Not intensely, and certainly less than before, but it's there. There were even times I genuinely thought the Saxenda wasn't doing anything at all...

It clearly works differently for everyone. Good for you if it’s getting the job done. As long as it works, that's what matters...

Unfortunately, I'm not a candidate for Ozempic, so I have to keep fighting this battle on my own.

Is Wegovy exclusively for diabetics too?

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy A72

From what I've gathered in the news, Wegovy is being registered specifically for weight loss, while Ozempic is for diabetics (even though they're essentially the same drug?). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...
Angela Murphy74 said:I just got my latest blood work back:

25-hydroxy vitamin D: 11 nmol/L > 75 CMIA Abbott

My Vitamin D is at 11, while the reference range starts at 75. What does this mean, and how is it treated?

Vitamin D supplements. Your primary care physician can write you a prescription...

Location is Chicago, covered by Social Security Administration.

Thanks🎉

You’d need a referral to visit one of the hospitals.
I know Rib, Vinogradski, and I believe Petrov definitely have clinics specializing in obesity. Maybe someone here can recommend a specific doctor...
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Hi there,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a gastroenterologist in Washington, D.C.? Ideally, someone who practices both privately and at a hospital. It’s becoming quite urgent, so I’d like to book a private appointment for my dad, but if any issues arise, it would be much easier to follow up through the hospital system... Thanks.
Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
Hello,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid private proctologist or a clinic in Chicago? Ideally somewhere that can handle any necessary procedures on-site.

It's for my father, 74 years old. He’s dealing with severe hemorrhoids and constipation, and he's become overly reliant on laxatives, which just ends up causing him even more pain...

Thanks.
My mom's neighbor used to slide her hand under my jacket... so I guess it's up to you to figure out how and why.
I hate it with everything in me. It’s pathetic. They don't even ask; they just start touching you. And generally speaking, I really don't like being touched...
Amy Cruz8 said:It’s incredibly draining. My contract wraps up in a month, and I’m due to give birth in three. All I hear from coworkers is, "So, how much longer are you staying?" One clerk even had the nerve to suggest I start handing over files for archiving now so she isn't overwhelmed when I leave.
Since I work for a government agency, I’ve already spoken with both managers about extending my contract—even just a temporary role—so I can qualify for maternity benefits as an employee. We'll see what happens.
One colleague I usually get along with told me there was absolutely no way they'd approve it. She sounded so bitter, I could hardly believe it.
When I mentioned my stress to a friend, her response was basically, "Who cares? As long as your husband has a job." She actually stayed unemployed through her entire pregnancy; they just set up a fake payroll entry at some small firm so she could collect maternity pay. Meanwhile, I’m still working right up until three months before my due date.
The uncertainty is what gets to me most, along with people who have zero tact. I would never dream of asking someone a question like that.
I know I should stay focused on the baby and not let this get to me, but it's hard.

Hey, maybe look into whether you can transition immediately to medical leave for complications after that month is up if they don't extend you? I'm honestly not sure how the replacement process works in those cases, but that way you wouldn't end up with two months of unemployment.

I also plan to work until 45 days before my due date because, even though I thought about leaving earlier, it just isn't worth it. Either financially, or simply because being active makes the days pass faster, and my job isn't physically demanding. If I were home, I'd just be Googling symptoms and driving myself crazy... 🕺

I just got a few pages from the Target catalog featuring maternity pants today...🤣
Samuel Cook96 said:Are you talking about one of those giveaways for kids' stuff?

For just about anything...
From retail coupons and sweepstakes to photos of a baby having an accident... I haven't seen a single thing I wouldn't enter 👏
Facebook tagging nonsense 🙂
I had someone tell me during my fifth month—my bump showed up pretty early too—that they didn't even realize I was pregnant, assuming it was just something else 🤣

Aside from that one instance, I haven't dealt with much stupidity. Just the occasional comment about whether we were still "two-for-one" deals, but that wasn't exactly malicious or even particularly dumb...

Bradley Collins5 said:I haven't actually had surgery for a dermoid—it was more of a paraovarian cyst—but the incision was pretty standard, so maybe that offers some perspective if it helps at all... I managed to head back to work after about two months. The mass was roughly 10 cm, and they did a bikini cut. I ended up staying in the hospital for about 10 days.

That long? Is your job desk-bound or more active?
I really can't afford that much time off work😲
Ovaries: Cysts and related issues [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
I'm wondering if anyone here has had a traditional surgery to remove an ovarian dermoid cyst.
How long was the recovery period? When can you realistically get back to work or start exercising again?
What does the incision look like and where is it located?

A hundred questions...
Is there a registry somewhere for doctors currently accepting new patients?
I realize this might not be the ideal topic for a question, but I’d appreciate any insight.

I was scheduled for a pelvic MRI at a private clinic today. They required me to fast, clear my bowels using X-Prep, and use a tampon. However, when I arrived, they had messed up the scheduling—they double-booked me with another woman and couldn't see me. Since their next available slot isn't until mid-September, I went ahead and booked an appointment at a different clinic for tomorrow.

The second clinic told me that no preparation is necessary before the scan. Why would one place require prep while another doesn't? Should I go through the motions and do the preparation anyway? I don't want the image quality to suffer because I skipped it.

I have a significant endometrioma on my right ovary.
