Hey there. 🙂

Since I’m basically clueless right now, can some ladies who actually know their stuff please point me in the right direction? Honestly, Googling this stuff just makes me super paranoid. Talk to me like I'm a six-year-old and explain what's going on.

So, yeah.

Over the last few months, thanks to some private drama, my health has been a total mess—mostly down there, specifically urinary and genital issues (bladder infections, yeast infections, and all that crap). Of course, dealing with all that takes time, patience, and nerves of steel, and I've been trying to hang in there. For the most part, I've been feeling almost normal these past couple of weeks.

But then, I got my period on September 1st (ten days earlier than usual), and it went normally for about six or seven days. Then, just a week later, around September 15th, I started bleeding again. Like, what the hell? I called my OBGYN immediately to get an appointment. I finally went yesterday.

Basically, I have a clear cyst on my ovary (I think 🤔), measuring about 5.5 cm x 3.5 cm, and my doctor prescribed Provera.

My question is: what on earth is that Provera supposed to do? And where did this sudden cyst even come from? It wasn't even a thing on my last ultrasound back in June!

Also, how do you even live with one cyst or multiple cysts? I feel like such an idiot for not looking into this properly before acting like an adult.

Hi. 🙂

Back when I was 17, they found a clear cyst on my ovary measuring about 8.5 cm... It ended up swelling more before it just burst on its own, which was pretty painful. After that, the cyst kept coming back for about six months. My gynecologist put me on some pills for a while—can't really remember which ones since it was forever ago—but after that, they never came back. Honestly, two different doctors told me that most women deal with cysts without even realizing it. They often pop up during your cycle and then rupture right around ovulation. People call them 'chocolate cysts' because if they burst, you might see dark discharge during ovulation. They just come and go. As long as you get regular checkups if you're prone to them to keep an eye on how they grow, that's basically it... 👍

My gynecologist mentioned to me that most women actually deal with cysts, even if they don't realize it at all, because they're just those typical functional fluid-filled ones. I went through it myself last year, where they usually just seem to burst right in the middle of my cycle. For instance, I'll go in for an ultrasound at the start of my period and there's a cyst clearly visible, but then by the middle or end of the cycle when I get checked again, it's just completely gone. From what I've gathered, with these specific types, you don't really see any dark discharge or anything unusual like that.

There's probably a few different types depending on what's actually in the swab...

First off, thanks Alex White6, that link was super helpful. 🙂

It hurt like hell. After that, the cyst kept coming back for about six months straight. My gynecologist put me on some pills for a while, but it was so long ago I can't even remember what they were called. Since then, though, they haven't come back. Actually, two different doctors told me that most women deal with cysts without even realizing it. They often pop up during your cycle and then just burst right around ovulation. People call them "chocolate cysts" because if they rupture, you might see this dark discharge during ovulation. They basically just show up and then leave. As long as you go in for regular checkups if you're prone to them, just to keep an eye on how things are growing, you're good. That's really it. 👍

Regarding that quote... erm, what does "it was painful" actually mean? In what sense are we talking about "painful"? Like, are we talking a knife-to-the-gut kind of pain—not that I know exactly what that feels like, obviously—or is it more like those intense cramps you get from having too much of something? Or what?

Second thing, you’ve actually got me a little intrigued now. Basically, I was having this "chocolate" bleeding for ten days before I could even make it in for my appointment. My doctor told me to just wait until the bleeding stopped before coming in. She called it "ovulation bleeding." But honestly, in my case, the uterine lining is totally clear and the fluid is transparent. Now I'm just sitting here confused.

Now I’m lost. You’re saying they burst during ovulation, so there's nothing left because they just leak out with that bleeding?

I don't get it—why was I bleeding if everything looks totally clear and, like, freaking huge? Did it leak out? Meaning it actually was bigger before? Or... I don't even know. 😬

Look, fine. I’ll just go ahead and grill Ginić about all those specifics during my next follow-up appointment, but god, I am sooo impatient. 🙂

Hi. 🙂

Regarding the quote... hmm, what does "it was painful" actually mean? In what sense? Like a sharp stabbing pain in the stomach—not that I know exactly what that feels like—or more like intense cramping from the volume... or what?

No problem at all.

I’ve had clear ones too, and just like Timothy Richardson10 and bluecrane16 said, they come and go without you even realizing it. For me, the rupture itself wasn't quite as painful—I could pretty much guess when it happened since I was going in for checkups a bit more often—but the twisting? That was absolute agony! I think there's something about that in the link I sent you.
It’s the kind of pain where even breathing hurts... I couldn't even get off the floor. At least for me, it didn't happen that frequently...

There are all sorts of different cysts out there, and while I don't know the official medical terminology off the top of my head, people usually just call them water cysts, chocolate cysts, or even paraovarian ones...

The only ones that are truly scary are the paraovarian cysts, because they typically sit on the outer surface of the ovaries, and if they start growing, they can actually turn into CANCER. If one of those types of cysts ruptures, it spills everything into the abdominal cavity, which can be life-threatening for a woman due to sudden shock. It’s incredibly painful, too, and almost always requires surgery since doctors have to thoroughly clean out the abdominal area to prevent sepsis from setting in.

Perhaps this might be of some use....

Divided into three chapters—The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly—it offers a rather straightforward breakdown regarding ovarian cysts.

There is a plant called Agnus Castus Vitex; it comes in tinctures or capsules and is used to help clear ovarian cysts. Capsules are probably better because the tincture tastes absolutely revolting. I can get some for you.

Does anyone know where in Washington, D.C. I can pick up some Agnus Castus—and if so, what kind of price am I looking at?

tnx

Has anyone ever dealt with some kind of lingering discomfort down there...
I've never really had issues before, but for the last month or so, there's been this constant light stinging and a dull sensation in my lower abdomen. It’s not intense or anything scary, just a persistent tension and those little sharp stabs.🤔
I have an appointment with Ginić soon, but today the stinging feels so strange that I'm starting to get a bit worried. I can even feel a bit of that cramping pain.
I don't have any other symptoms—no fever or unusual discharge. My period arrived right on schedule, too.
I'm wondering if this could be related to my colon.🤔>
That dull ache reminds me a bit of the soreness and weakness I usually get right before my period, so that's why I'm making the connection.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Is it possible for ovarian inflammation to manifest this way?

I tend to get this kind of pain right around the time I'm ovulating, but Ginić says everything looks perfectly fine...

It isn't ovulation... I know that's possible during ovulation, but...
this has been going on for a month now and it feels different...
I'm getting these sharp, stabbing pains😢

Hmm... honestly, that could be related to your kidneys too—not trying to freak you out or anything, but just being real with you...

It felt as though I was constantly being shuffled from one doctor to another whenever I caught a little cold or dealt with those pesky infections.

It’s actually pretty common for them to be kidneys...
Or maybe they're just those cysts near the ovaries that pop during ovulation...
Nothing to worry about, really—been there, done that. 😉

During my ovulation window, that stabbing sensation gets so intense that I literally have to sit down just to deal with it...
Now I’m heading in for an ultrasound because of it—specifically to see if there's a link to some dermatological issues I've been having. We need to either confirm this is the root cause or rule it out entirely...
Honestly, I'm terrified that given how irregular my cycle is, they'll find significant issues or something like cysts due to the pain levels...😢

It's probably not a kidney issue, most likely.
It’s either a thick intestine or some left-sided issue... maybe.
I have a political brain—but the right-leaning kind...
I'm not really sure what's going on right now... I guess I'll know once I go see Ginić.

Feeling some twinges during ovulation is pretty normal, but this has been happening every single day for a month now. Plus, I'm 31. I've never actually experienced ovulation pains before—so that's definitely not something I usually deal with. 😬

I get these sharp stabs of pain every now and then—been happening for years, honestly. My gut feeling? It's probably cysts bursting. 🙂
Everything comes back clean on the medical exams, though.
