Heartbreak in Health ·
I have a friend who says her heart is "aching," too. But honestly, it’s more than just physical pain—it feels like her soul is hurting.

Of course, you always have to rule out anything medical first. She should probably check in with a doctor or a cardiologist just to be safe. Most likely, it isn't an actual heart issue, but something else entirely. What kind of symptoms is she actually feeling?
Thyroid cancer in Health ·
Well, I guess it really depends on the specific type of cancer we're talking about. Metastases are just nasty...

I actually had a friend from my high school class who was diagnosed with a malignant thyroid tumor when she was only 18. It had already spread to some lymph nodes in her neck. They ended up removing her thyroid along with all the nodes on that side of her neck. She actually pulled through without needing chemo and she’s doing great now, but she'll be on hormone replacement for the rest of her life.
I remember stumbling upon some info about laser eye surgery—and yeah, there are actually several different types out there—mentioning that one of the potential side effects is really poor night vision once you're done with the procedure.

It definitely feels like a gamble; I think it’s better to just wait and see what the long-term effects look like twenty years down the road...
Muscle strain? (Back left calf :) ) in Health ·
It’s probably just from overdoing it at the gym when you aren't used to the intensity, though it could definitely be dehydration, the heat, or even an electrolyte imbalance. Try grabbing some potassium—maybe some bananas—and some magnesium, like a supplement or even just some Epsom salt...

When those cramps hit, you really need to start stretching the muscle immediately, even if it hurts a bit at first.

Can anyone tell me a bit about Aromavita? I'm looking for details on their program, the pricing, and maybe even a link to their site?

P.S.
I did manage to find http://www.aromavita.net , but honestly, the Aromara program feels way more professional to me. One thing that really rubs me the wrong way about Aromavita is that they have kinesiology professors teaching the massage portion... those folks aren't actually trained for massage, let alone teaching it to others. They barely touch on massage during their college courses. Plus, when someone tries to brand themselves as a "medical" aromatherapist, it just feels super forced to me.

Does anyone have any insider info they could share? I'm still dying to know what the cost is!

Honestly, you should just go with your gut on this one. If the pain isn't intense and it's not getting any worse—why fight it? But, if you feel like it’s hitting a bit too hard, especially if the pain flares up while you're out dancing or just won't let up for weeks at a time... then yeah, definitely head to the doctor.

Great, at least now we know where we're looking. 🙂 We aren't quite sure what's causing the issue yet, but at least we have a starting point. 🙂
Looking at the muscle group here, it's the vastus medialis—that's one of the quad heads and arguably the most important one. But the main thing is that you aren't feeling pain further down by the knee. Of course, it could be another part of the quad, maybe the vastus intermedius or even the rectus femoris... I'm hardly a medical expert, after all! 😁

It’s the same advice I gave Andrew Anderson6: just hang tight for a bit and see how things progress.

Ugh, look at me helping you guys out (if you can even call it that 😁)...

brisknomad6 said:Thanks... It’s just the front left part of my thigh, and only when I'm in a crouching position...
It doesn't actually hurt otherwise, and I can walk and dance just fine...

Hehe, you're getting mixed up again 😁 Is it the front left side of your right thigh or your left? I mean, it doesn't sound like your whole thigh hurts, just one specific spot on the thigh from what I can tell...
Muscle strain? (Back left calf :) ) in Health ·
Honestly, it’s impossible to know for sure just by chatting online with 😁

Andrew Anderson6, it might be your lateral gastrocnemius—that would explain why walking on your heels feels easier since there's less tension. It sounds like it could just be a minor tendon strain, and if that's the case, it'll probably clear up in a few days without any issues. Did you do anything crazy or intense lately that might have caused it? Or do you remember it starting right after a sudden movement?

brisknomad6, what you described is a bit too vague even for a guess. Does it hurt right around the knee, or is it more along the length of your thigh? I didn't quite catch if it's on the front-outer side or the inner side of your thigh. If it's muscle pain, it's likely coming from one of the quadriceps heads. Beyond that, I can't really give you an educated guess 🙂

My best advice is to go see an orthopedic specialist if it doesn't get better. In the meantime, just take it easy and rest until the pain subsides.

Honestly, I’d mostly be doing this as a hobby. I have zero intention of making it my official job title or worrying about whether it’s officially documented in my professional records. For me, it would just be a nice way to complement the other treatments I offer. One day 😁

I was actually thinking about looking into that family aromatherapist program... does anyone know when the next session starts or what the tuition looks like? I already have some experience with massage, so I'm not really looking to spend a ton of money there, but I'd love to dive deeper into the world of essential oils.

velvetwolf92, could you let me know which books you base your curriculum on? And what kind of pricing are we looking at for those programs?

Is it mostly hands-on practical work, or is it more lecture-based?

Jack Harris3, I’m right there with you when it comes to doctors... But honestly, you already know what I'm going to say here 😁

Maybe if you could just find yourself a hot doctor, things would look up? 😁 It might make the whole experience a lot easier 🙂

Come on, please explain what you mean by crocodiles! I probably know exactly what you’re talking about, just not under that specific name.

Alexander Hill2 said:👍 😁 I haven't met anyone who would complain after getting a massage... You’re supposed to give them props... otherwise, there’s no tip. 🙂 😁

What people value most is when it goes way beyond just a "standard" massage. So, go for it! 👍

When you get praise from your own colleagues, that carries so much more weight.

I knew about it, but I’d already booked my plane ticket back in March, way before I even heard about South by Southwest... Man, what a bummer. I wasn't exactly looking to hitchhike all the way home just to make it to the festival. Plus, the entry fee is 100 euros.
Matthew Herbert in Music ·
I actually had the chance to catch him live for about 12 bucks yesterday, but I decided to head to another event that seemed more my style, and honestly, I didn't regret it at the time. But now? I feel like a total idiot because I missed South by Southwest last night... if I'd only known, I would've stayed an extra day.

I know my way around all kinds of classic massage styles—everything from deep tissue to traction and lymphatic drainage—though I don’t actually do this for a living. Maybe one day I'll turn it into something more, but honestly, I doubt it... I think I'd rather just focus on learning those complex manual therapy techniques that are way more intense than your standard massage.

People always tell me I'm amazing at massaging 🙂

Unfortunately, a doctor isn't going to give you a diagnosis over the internet...

If both legs are swollen, there's a chance it could be heart or kidney issues (but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about 🙂), or maybe just some venous insufficiency.

But if it's just one leg, it could be a blood clot. Honestly, it could be anything. You really need to go get it checked out. No one can tell you for sure through a screen like this. I'm basically a professional nag when it comes to doctors, even though I'm secretly terrified of them myself 😁
