Stunning:
"I find myself in the middle of the wire. And I feel the void. And although a tightrope walker should never look down... I do. And it was... It was beautiful. It was calm and beautiful, and serene, and 'not-dangerous.'"

Jonathan Mendoza17 said:What a fantastic movie—it honestly caught me completely off guard. I went in thinking it might be some drawn-out, tedious slog, and frankly, I wasn't sure how they’d manage to stretch a two-hour runtime out of nothing more than walking on a wire, but man, did they pull it off. It’s really down to the director's vision. I loved those little touches, too—like the way he explains why Americans are suddenly all speaking English all of a sudden. He turned it into this sort of subtle art film, which just fits the vibe perfectly. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Absolutely phenomenal. He's an incredible actor who definitely hasn't received the recognition he deserves.
All in all, it’s one of the best films of the year—easily better than most of the stuff even getting an Oscar nod.

For me, it's one of the best films ever. It's such a huge injustice regarding the Oscars. I'd recommend anyone interested to check it out and listen to the Silvestri soundtrack. It's right up there with his work on Back to the Future.

How were you handling the collection? Were you paying them directly, or were they just grabbing it from your bank account? Did you actually get a formal notice of the levy and a confirmation from the agency that the debt is cleared?
I recently dealt with a situation involving T-Mobile where they offered me a settlement. They told me if I paid the full amount plus court costs, they'd waive the interest. I took the deal, but I made sure to demand written proof that the debt was settled in full and that they have zero remaining claims against me.

Looking at how things usually go with the American system, it actually surprises me that the amount isn't even higher than 😢 Unfortunately I lost my iPhone using Tapatalk😢

Thomas Hayes2 said:I’m not saying that’s his sole driving force, but there's no denying that a huge part of what he does is for the audience. Even within the movie itself, that connection with the crowd is given such specific emphasis—think about the choreographed bows, that sense of mutual respect, him looking down at the masses, the personal photos, being the center of attention on the world stage, the headlines, and even that initial lack of recognition in France... all of that plays a role.
Just think back to that one scene where he performs on the wire over the river for the very first time, when absolutely nobody cared or gave a damn, and you can see how much that stung him.

And sure, you could argue that everything I just mentioned isn't necessarily about entertaining the crowd, but rather about feeding his own ego. However, in the line of work he's chosen, those two things are essentially one and the same: an audience won't truly respect you if you haven't actually entertained them...

Sure, but that relationship with the audience isn't some kind of scam; it's just an authentic, perfectionist obsession with the art itself.

Absolutely stunning, just a fantastic movie. It’s such a shame the box office numbers were so pathetic 😢

It deserved way more than what it got 😢

It’s honestly a joke that this movie doesn't have its own dedicated thread, so I guess it's finally time to fix that injustice.

For years, people have been pushing this narrative that it's some massive failure of a movie. I just can't get behind those views, if I'm being honest. I don't care about haters.

It’s also pretty cool to see comments lately showing there's still a group of cinephiles who absolutely adore this film. Count me in. And don't even get me started on the soundtrack. It's just perfect. I’d especially recommend hunting down that leaked 4-CD set—it really gives you the full picture of the Williamson masterpiece. After all this negativity meant to balance out actual appreciation with endless, sarcastic cynicism, maybe we should start this thread by remembering some of those iconic scenes and musical themes:

PETER PAN IS BACKKKKKKKKKKK

SOUNDTRACK - Remembering Childhood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9Zi1KpQjTg
(a glorious 11 minutes)

SOUNDTRACK - WHEN YOU'RE ALONE

This one is from the ultimate 4-CD version (an unused track):
Demi Lovato sings Childhood (Unused song from HOOK)

A few thoughts from the fans:

I was Peter Pan.

The ultimate freedom of flying around.

Unencumbered by The stress and obligations of Life.

This extraordinary gift is powered by happy thoughts.

Peter forgot how to fly because he became too distracted with the parts of life that don't actually bring happiness.

That is why it's so triumphant that he remembers how to fly.

All The Greatest things in Life Come fra happiness and Love, and not from fear.

Remember the beauty of Childhood.

Life is a game.

Anyway, this is just the start. I'll probably post more when the nostalgia hits again. Contributions are welcome, I guess. 🙂

I just took a look at the page for *The Impossible*. Honestly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. It’s one of those movies that really sticks with you, maybe because it feels so raw. I guess it hits different when you realize how much people actually went through during those kinds of disasters. It's definitely heavy stuff. Maybe some people would find it too intense, but I felt like it was necessary to show the reality of it. I don't know, I have mixed feelings about how much they lean into the emotion, but it’s hard to deny the performances were solid. It's a tough watch, for sure.

The movie hit theaters here in the States back in November of last year, but the European rollout didn't really kick off until February 2011—and unfortunately, they skipped over us entirely. They announced the DVD release this past August, so I guess it looks like we might be watching yet another great film suffer the same fate as Hachik and The Runaways. 😢

It looks like they haven't released the official soundtrack yet, though I guess I managed to track down an unofficial version somehow.

Check out this killer review:
I don't know, maybe I'm just being cynical, but reading this recap of last night’s big Hollywood gala makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. It’s all just noise. Everyone is talking about who wore what and which A-lister was spotted at the afterparty, but honestly? It feels incredibly hollow. I guess some people actually find this stuff riveting, but to me, it just looks like a bunch of manufactured moments designed to sell tabloids. You have these massive stars acting like they're part of some exclusive club, while the rest of us are just watching the spectacle from the sidelines. It’s exhausting. Maybe I’m just old school, or maybe I just have a low tolerance for this kind of superficiality, but it feels like we're celebrating nothing. Just lights, expensive dresses, and ego. It's all very performative.

Here are all three versions of that mesmerizing trailer:

I can't really get my head around this video. I guess I'm just looking at it, trying to make sense of the whole thing, but maybe I'm missing something obvious. It feels... I don't know, disjointed? It’s hard to tell if it’s supposed to be profound or if it’s just aimless. I might be overthinking it, but there's something about the pacing that just feels off to me. It’s frustrating, honestly. I kept waiting for a point to land, but it never quite did. Maybe it's just not my thing, but I expected more.
I can't really get into this video right now because I don't have access to external links like YouTube. If you want to talk about what’s actually happening in the clip, maybe just give me a breakdown of the main points or tell me what part specifically bothered you. I guess if you describe the context, I might have an opinion on it.
I can't really get into this video. I mean, I tried to watch it, but it’s just... I don't know. It feels like there's something missing here. Maybe it's just me, but I found it pretty hard to connect with what was being said. It's all a bit much, I guess. I'm not sure if I'd call it helpful or even interesting, per se. Just felt kind of aimless.

Otherwise, you can find the answer to that question over in the PayPal thread.

It's the law. And yeah, it's definitely orange. 🙂

Thanks, I'll go check out the PayPal thread. I haven't looked at it in maybe a year or two, but I remember the thread being massive back then.

So, I've got a question too.

I have a Microsoft card from JPMorgan Chase that's linked directly to my checking account.

It has that three-digit security code on the back, so I was wondering if I can actually use this card for online shopping, or maybe even link it to PayPal? (Though I assume receiving funds through PayPal still doesn't work here in the States yet?)

Thanks to everyone for any suggestions, answers, or advice.
