Mladen Jergović - again!? in Formula 1 ·
stormybadger8 said:What an "expert." Seriously, he didn't say anything smarter than what any random person could have scribbled down from this PDF...

I suppose you're just going to go ahead and provoke him again, and then he'll inevitably retreat in a huff...

The issue arises because Gasly spotted a gap between Zhou and Russell, yet Russell began veering toward Zhou just as he tried to close that opening. However, he was simply too late to make the move, leaving him essentially responsible for the contact. Zhou maintained his line, Gasly attempted the gap, but Russell failed to hold his position.

Yes, technically Russell was ahead and had the right to defend his line... I am not trying to defend him, nor am I a fan of his (just to be clear), but I wouldn't say he is solely to blame for this collision... I would argue Gasly was more at fault, given how he tried to force his way through where there simply wasn't any room...

George Russell veered left, likely attempting to gain some sort of advantage. It was a pretty sharp turn, in my opinion—not just a slight adjustment—so it seems quite strange that he didn't spot Pierre Gasly in his rearview mirror. Essentially, it was careless and inattentive.
He caused a significant amount of damage. I suspect it flew under the radar because there were more pressing matters at hand during that moment.
I am not entirely sure if there was even an official investigation regarding 🤔?

To me, it looked as though Russell actually clipped Gasly’s rear left tire just a split second before the collision...
Perhaps I am mistaken, but that is how it appeared to me...

Word on the street is they had a solid six-second window to make the call to bring Charles Leclerc into the pits, and just as we all witnessed, they didn't... even though there was plenty of time to make it happen...

Things went absolutely sideways at Ferrari because Sainz didn't follow orders 🙂
What a complete mess, honestly... 🙂

I guess we’ll finally get to see what actually went down today... that damn director...

They’ve gone and completely screwed over Charles Leclerc again with that "champion's strategy" nonsense...

What is this absolute garbage anthem they're playing, does anyone actually think it's any good?

I was just scrolling through and reading the comments, and man, it’s a mess.

It's probably just clickbait, plus he's one of their own drivers anyway.
But honestly, I doubt that's even the main reason. Even with his recent results, Ham is still hands down the most popular driver on the grid and remains the face of Formula 1.
If it weren't for him, I bet Massi would still be in F1; the guy owes a lot to Hamilton.

People are clearly hurting, but hey, that's life.
I find it hard to wrap my head around why people are so incredibly jealous and hateful toward those at the top.
Lionel Messi went through this, LeBron James dealt with it, and even my old man told me that people didn't exactly shower Michael Schumacher with love either.

That specific side of human nature just baffles me.
Look, I get it—there are millions of us out there, and nobody is going to be liked 100% of the time, but the sheer amount of hate being thrown around is just overkill.

Take him home then, if you think you could do a better job... 🙂

I’m not exactly a Max supporter, but if we’re looking at any realistic scenario for the WDC, Sergio Perez is the only way to make it happen...
Max is clearly the superior driver regardless of how you look at it, especially since he’s the clear favorite of those two clowns over at Red Bull Racing...

It seems like this Haas F1 Team car just splits right in half every single time it makes contact with the barrier... quite strange indeed...

How on earth is Leclerc going to manage to get ahead of Perez? It looks like we’re looking at another championship season for Ferrari...

Why on earth are they opting for full wets when the track is barely even damp?

Alright then... 🙂

I already laid out what was bothering me a moment ago, so this isn't really related...
Let's try not to get off-topic here...

Raymond Anderson4 said:How can we actually tell what a car is truly capable of? Between managing tire degradation over the weekend and trying to preserve the engine life throughout the season, you just don't get the luxury of hunting for qualifying-style laps constantly. In reality, we probably only see two or three genuine runs per week where the car is light on fuel and dialed in with maximum settings. That’s hardly a large enough sample size to know if a qualifying time is actually the absolute limit, or if there are still a few tenths hiding under the surface.

Even with all five... that isn't really the "issue" here...
What bothers me is when people claim a driver was driving "beyond the car's capability"... physically speaking, that is impossible... that's all there is to it...

Everything just aligns perfectly at the right moment, and suddenly you get a result that defies any logical explanation.

It's happened countless times in Formula 1 history, and it'll happen again.

Yes, Maldonado on dear Frank's SFW Birthday... 🙂

Let’s be real—Aston Martin didn't stand a chance at breaking into the top 10. But looking at Alfa Romeo, AT, McLaren, and especially Ricciardo, Alpine, Bottas, and Gasly? Yeah, they definitely had business being up there.
Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if Aston Martin even had the pace to make it into Q2.

The laws of physics simply don't allow you to "squeeze more out of a car than its actual potential"...
That is exactly what I am getting at... 🙂

How exactly does one manage to extract more performance from a car than its inherent design should allow? 🙂

stormybadger8 said:Leclerc was carrying way too much fuel yesterday...
You could really see it when he messed up his weigh-in. When he missed the scale and those Ferrari mechanics had to push him back, you’d naturally expect them to just shove him straight into the garage to top off the tank. Instead, they swapped his tires and sent him right back out!

Basically, he had enough extra fuel during that first lap to cover at least three more laps (the out-lap, the flyer, and the in-lap), which is a massive amount of reserve to be lugging around...

Let’s run the numbers. If we assume an average consumption of 186 miles, and they are carrying 100kg of fuel (let's say roughly 110 liters), then that breaks down to 110 / 3 = 36.6 l/62 miles
The track is slightly shorter than 2.5 miles, so let's call it 4, meaning 3 laps equals 7.5 miles
Essentially, they had about 0.366 x 12 = 4.39 liters in the tank, which we can round to 4 kg.

Now, how much does an extra 4 kg of weight actually cost in terms of time (tenths of a second) per lap?

Technically, one should apply an exponential function here since the fuel load decreases with every single lap, but I won't bore you all with the heavy math... 🙂

Anyway, I am just sitting here bored while waiting for the race to start... 🙂
