It’s funny—when I was sitting around with nothing to do, this thing worked flawlessly. Now that life is hitting me with three times the workload, it decides to kick the bucket... just my luck.

Can I just throw any random card in there? I've got an old desktop lying around I could scavenge from. If I pull the Nvidia out and slap this old one in, will the BIOS or the OS throw a fit? I’m a little nervous about bricking something because I’m definitely not a pro at this stuff.

So, how long has it actually been since my last post? Like, 45 minutes? Seriously, everything was running absolutely flawlessly right after that driver update...
But then, boom. My computer decided to go totally haywire again, throwing lines and weird green tints all over the screen. 😠

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say I finally cracked this thing, just in case anyone else ends up hitting this same wall...
Basically, even though I thought I was back in business after that last "fix," my PC kept blue-screening on me constantly while I was trying to actually get work done..
To top it all off, those weird lines started popping up on the screen again, though luckily they vanished as soon as they appeared..
It finally clicked that I should try installing the latest graphics driver right now, while the machine is actually behaving itself. Before this, every single time I attempted to update the drivers, the whole system would just tank mid-installation..
So, I went ahead and ran the installer, and now everything is running smooth as silk....🙏

Believe it or not...
I just finished restoring my system from a backup image, and wouldn't you know it—everything is running perfectly now...
Just to be clear, nothing about the actual "ghosting" process itself changed anything before; it’s working fine now...

Oh, I almost forgot the best part. While I was attempting to update some drivers, I eventually threw in the towel after a few failed tries. I hit "uninstall driver," but then panicked and clicked "cancel." Even though I supposedly canceled the action, the little pop-up window still insisted that changes would be applied upon restart... so, naturally, I rebooted. When the machine came back up, the desktop graphics were absolutely insane—everything was zoomed in like ten times over. Clearly, something had definitely shifted under the hood. So, I did another restart, booted into my backup software, restored the entire system from the previous image, and boom—it's back to normal. Like, wtf?!?

So I gave WhoCrashed a shot, and it pointed the finger squarely at my Nvidia driver rather than any hardware issues..
Man, was I stoked for a second there... but that feeling didn't last long...
I tried grabbing the latest driver from the site, but the installation is a total disaster—the whole computer just freezes up mid-way and calls it quits..
Then it hit me: why not try an older driver? I found one that’s slightly newer than what I’m currently running, and hey, that actually worked and installed without a hitch..
But here's the kicker: when I tried to push through a proper update, absolutely nothing changed. It's like the update process is just spinning its wheels and doing zero actual work...
Now I'm totally stuck and honestly have no clue what my next move should be..

Can the one from the Craigslist ad actually fit in my rig? I’m asking because there seem to be a million versions of these Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS cards out there—they all look totally different and usually have some random prefix in front of the name.
Honestly, I'm pretty lost here...

So, I pulled out that dual DVI graphics card—the one without the fan—gave it a good deep clean to get all the dust out, and popped it right back in.
No luck, though. Same exact story. 🤦

Oh, and get this: when I fired up Hiren's BootCD and ran the PC wizard to check my CPU temps and all that good stuff, everything was smooth sailing. I could click through Motherboard, RAM, you name it, and it worked fine. But the second I clicked on the GeForce video card option? Boom. Total system crash.

And here we go again... just a straight-up crash the moment I click that video card label...

I'm not really sure which cables you're talking about; this card doesn't even use any external power cables...

So, my PC has gone totally haywire. Everything on my monitor has this weird greenish tint, and any white background is covered in these nasty horizontal lines. Windows XP boots up just fine and loads the desktop, but the second I try to actually run any programs, they just crash—the whole system goes into standby and hits me with a black screen.
I've already tried booting from a backup system, but that didn't fix a thing.
The GPU is an Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS. Is it possible the card finally kicked the bucket?
What’s my move here? Does anyone know a reliable repair shop where I can get this fixed ASAP? I’m currently drowning in three different projects all hitting a massive deadline by the end of June...😠

Honestly, I’m not even sweating the data on that partition. My C drive is already a total Ghost town anyway.
I can always just run a recovery using Ghost from a bootable CD-ROM, no sweat.

there's a bit of a catch when you start messing with creating primary partitions and trying to get a dual boot setup running...

@Lawrence Barnes64—just a heads up, my drives are formatted as NTFS, they aren't FAT32.

My second drive is totally packed, and I can't seem to delete or move anything 😁

Regarding Bruce Willis's post, thanks a ton for the help. I just want to double-check if this is actually doable—specifically, if I can just split my 100GB C partition right down the middle into two separate ones, then use Ghost to restore my Windows XP system onto one of those new partitions like nothing ever happened, while installing Windows 7 on the other.
From what I've been digging up online, that doesn't sound right. Usually, you grab space from other partitions or some unallocated space to expand a third one. But I haven't seen anyone mention taking an existing partition and just splitting it in half like that...

As for paying, I’d happily fork over the cash $23 if someone would just do this for me and guarantee that nothing goes south during the process...
But we all know how it goes when you hire a pro to fix something for $23.

I’m trying to figure out if there's a way to split my C drive right down the middle. I want to carve out a second partition so I can run a fresh install of Windows 7 on the new one, while keeping my original system partition completely untouched and still able to boot up just fine like nothing happened.

I'm looking to overhaul my system because Windows XP just can't handle the amount of RAM I need, plus all the new software I’ve been trying to run won't even launch on XP anymore.

It's an old rig, sure, but honestly? It’s still a beast and runs like a dream without a single hiccup; we're talking a Core 2 Duo 3GHz, a D975XBB2, some Crucial Ballistix, and so on...

Thanks for the hand, but I think that’s getting a bit too deep in the weeds for me. I can't really afford to go in there and accidentally break something.
So, here’s the deal: I’ve got two 320GB drives sitting in my rig.
One of those drives is split into three partitions, and one of them is my C /system drive running Windows XP.
That partition is sitting at 100GB, and the rest of the space on that drive is carved up into two other partitions.
Right now, Windows XP and all my apps are only eating up about 10GB.
Which means I’ve basically got 90GB of breathing room left on that C partition.
Plus, I've got another 50GB of unallocated space just hanging out on that same hard drive.
