@Nicholas Watson/">@@Nicholas Watson, look, you’ll figure it out eventually—what’s the deal with that law where some eighteen-year-old (who basically just got handed the keys by their parents like it's nothing) isn't allowed to drive a Ford with over 200 horsepower? Apparently, someone had the audacity to conclude that a kid wouldn't be able to handle a beast like that. 🤣 I mean, wow, what a groundbreaking insight, right?

This whole thing was being cooked up for months—negotiations, fine print, getting everything finalized so young drivers could get behind the wheel of something up to 80 KW—that was the plan, anyway. Then, suddenly, overnight, the rule, the law, the regulation, whatever you want to call it, just vanished into thin air.

Where did it go, why did it happen, and whose orders were they following?

Was it some big corporate directive from someone like ExxonMobil? 🤷

Yeah, and let's not forget how those massive concrete suburbs end up filled with thirty-five-year-olds acting like kids, plus their grandkids, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, great-grandchildren, and the whole damn circus...🤣 🙏

That's just how the world works. 🤣

God, give me strength, I was just thinking about something like this:

https://honka.com/hr/hr/nase-kuce/mo...ihtu-50-1a-hr/

https://www.marles.com/hise/en/house...tion/atris-149

They’re pretty cute, I guess... though I see everyone everywhere singing praises about how earthquake-proof they are.

Ah, right—they won't exactly last 500 years just so our great-great-great-great-grandchildren can finally move in. 🤣

Why is wood framing such a rarity over here when it comes to building houses?

I mean, seriously, where does this obsession with concrete and brick come from? 🤷

@ironranger67, seriously, you hit the nail on the head. I’m honestly done. If I ever catch myself sitting through another one of Nolan's ego trips, just slap me. He spends all this time trying to act like he’s being profound and elevated, but in reality? It’s just anemic, flat, and completely lifeless in every way a movie is supposed to feel. Honestly, if he finds a topic that actually interests him, he should just write a damn blog post about it instead of pretending he can turn it into some cinematic masterpiece. 🐔

Nicholas Watson, don't even start with that crap. 🤣🙏

What's up, everyone? What's the word?

When is something actually going to blow up on this forum again—you know, something that requires more than two lines of actual commentary? 🤣

Can I finally start gossiping and stirring the pot? I’ve been way too well-behaved for far too long! 🎉

So, I'm sitting here re-reading some film analysis PDFs today because I just finished watching Tenet, and I figured I'd take a look at what people are saying.

It’s always the same routine: everyone lays out perfectly valid reasons why a movie is garbage—how it's sterile, overstimulating, and just an emotionally hollow piece of trash—and then some "distinguished" member chimes in with, "Actually, it's brilliant because of the meta-meta-whatever," and suddenly everyone starts singing in unison about how much of a masterpiece it is. 🎉

I swear, I was practically screaming at my screen. 🤣

Anyway, I'm gonna go see what else is happening around here. Looks like I'm officially ready to get worked up over absolutely nothing again. 🎉

Honestly, screw all of you, this is getting completely insane.

Seriously, this morning around 4:30 AM, it was just constant shaking, the bed bouncing, everything rattling—it was pure chaos.

Bottom line, this felt way, WAY more intense than that tremor we had back in Los Angeles. (I’m out West, for those wondering)

And I just realized something: it seems like we only feel the ones coming from the northwest, otherwise, nothing. I’ve been obsessively scrolling through these earthquake lists, and whenever it says "northwest of...", I feel it. But anything listed as south or east of us? Total silence.

Makes sense, right? If I'm located northwest of the epicenter, I'll catch the wave, wouldn't you agree, Ashley Johnson46? 🤣

Honestly, I’ve completely lost track of who’s actually stocking up on smoked sausage, who’s hoarding books, or even which local mail carrier is willing to deal with anyone's delivery requests anymore... 🙏

And what on earth does any of that have to do with vaccines? 🤣
Third Time's a Charm Chat in Off-topic ·
Ashley Johnson46 said:And yeah, honestly, I’ve had enough of this weight 😁

Anyway, the mailman should be here any minute now.

To be fair, I actually ordered some books four months ago and they still haven't tracked me down, so I'm basically expecting them sometime this summer—assuming they don't just get lost in the void at the USPS. 🙏

And why on earth under community guidelines is this former harmless guy still shouting patriotic slogans without any decent restrictions? 🙂

Can someone please walk me through why this video is being flagged like this:

I'm looking at the quote: "video with an age restriction based on community guidelines," which basically means you can't even watch it anymore unless you prove to YouTube that you're actually an adult. 🎉

The best and most coherent explanation gets two pounds of premium smoked brisket sent straight to their house via USPS 🤣🤣.
cosmicdriver42 said:I caught Jeselnik back during his roast days and thought he was killer. It’s actually good to see him evolve into a legitimate comedian...

But honestly, watching his latest stand-up special, I couldn't help but notice how he (and I am totally not exaggerating 😬) went completely dead serious right after that bit about babies. He started over-explaining himself, basically lecturing the crowd that he was "just kidding" and that, obviously, he doesn't actually believe people should kill infants in their private lives because, hey, he's a comedian. 😢
Grace Edwards said:Well, maybe that’s exactly why. He’s a top-tier comedian. People just don't tolerate that kind of stuff anymore in this whole SJW era.
I guess John Cleese doesn't even have the heart to do comedy gigs lately because the climate is so toxic, with everyone getting offended by everything.

I was actually bingeing some recent stand-up specials on Netflix the other day, and man, my ears were bleeding. Gervais, Jeselnik... honestly, everyone. They spend half their damn set basically deconstructing and apologizing for their own jokes. It’s like they tell a punchline and then immediately pivot into a lecture explaining *why* it’s okay that they said what they just said. They’ve turned into these guys who tell a joke and then spend the next three minutes justifying it just in case someone didn't "get" it or decided to take offense. 😢

It absolutely kills the rhythm and just makes the whole thing suck way more than it should. 😢

Aside from that, these award shows have become such a total drag that nobody actually cares. If it wasn't for Ricky and that old-school curiosity of seeing who they're gonna try to corner or throw under the bus next, I wouldn't watch a single second unless I was related to one of the nominees. 😁

Sorry, but I can't find this anywhere on Netflix. I'm positive I typed the title in correctly. 🤷
quietdriver3 said:But, look, a movie about Mary Cheney should definitely dive into that issue. That paradox with conservative gay people.

But this isn't that kind of movie. I can't really say it's entirely her fault just because she's young and doesn't have a major role outside of being a sacrificial lamb here. Based on what we see in the film, maybe she really was just painting landscapes and bickering with the elders at Sunday dinners. Who knows? I'm not claiming to know who the real Mary is.

This whole discussion started from the idea of how sad it is to sacrifice one daughter's lifestyle just so the other can gain more power, since nobody actually killed anyone. Yeah, true, but it's about a line that acted as the last defense against the total dehumanization of the main character. And then that line gets crossed just for a little extra influence.

Fair enough, I can agree that the film completely ignored that massive, non-negligible piece of the puzzle that would have fundamentally shifted the big picture. Without it, you could easily walk away thinking Mary is just some pure liberal angel trapped in a family that doesn't vibe with her (at least politically), but honestly, that's just the standard issue with most biopics.
As a viewer, it’s hard for you to unlearn what you already know, even when the director tries to stay silent about it. Even if you try your hardest to soak up nothing but the message the director wants to feed you—because hey, it's their movie and you intend to respect it—everything you know and everything they chose to omit keeps buzzing too loudly in your head to let you hear them clearly.
That’s why discussions around movies like this always end up revolving around whether something vital to the point and its timing is accurate, wrong, twisted, or just left out. It turns into these debates about why the author cut or changed a specific detail, and whether you're going to just roll with it or if the missing pieces will keep screaming at you.

For me, things were buzzing way too loud during that scene, so it didn't hit the effect the director (apparently) intended. For you, it did. 🙂

And that's totally fine.
quietdriver3 said:I mean, I guess you can't call an idea's didacticism a violation as long as we all have the choice to just walk out of the movie theater, right?

The Unitary Executive theory is basically the Holy Grail for McKay's version of Arthur. So, his character actually has some sort of quest going through the end of the film, whereas she kind of finishes her thing halfway through.

You realize that sounds exactly like Orange rhetoric, right? Like, if I don't personally see a problem, then maybe there isn't one.

The Orange guy, and Mary too.

The real issue here is that it’s damn hard to feel any sympathy for someone—in this case, Mary—who, up until this exact moment involving HER, has used that same exact rhetoric and that same level of hypocrisy just to score political points.

It’s not like she was some little girl sitting in the corner painting landscapes all day while her dad’s political games flew right over her head; she was an active participant and a helper in those very same power plays.
So, it was totally fine to follow whatever the hell he thought and shape opinions to fit his agenda just to get what they wanted. You know, like inventing a specific enemy nation—ideally one loaded with oil—because "Al-Qaeda" is way too abstract a concept for regular folks to actually grasp who they're supposedly fighting.

She was perfectly fine with tailoring her politics by telling people exactly what they wanted to hear just to hit her targets, even if it wasn't true, because otherwise, you lose your base.
That is, until that same logic was applied to something affecting HER personally, rather than just some anonymous group of people out there.

You're forgetting that she's a conservative Republican, and if she hadn't been born gay, she would have been singing the exact same tune about gay marriage in public. Because it wouldn't have touched HER.

If she had just been busy painting scenery while the rest of the family was digging through the dirt, maybe I’d have a different take on the whole situation.
northerncrane4 said:Not quite—it’s about the parallel editing with the dead heart. The intention seems to be suggesting that his decision effectively drained whatever little heart he had left. 🤷

Whatwhatwhat? I wasn't even waiting around for the end credits. 😵

I don't know, I didn't necessarily connect it to that specific situation—honestly, not at all—but rather to his entire track record of just being a general nightmare.

And man, if this whole thing with his daughters was supposed to be the "mic drop" moment, then I completely missed the mark.

I'm reading up on those two and that whole LGBT scandal mess right now. Give me a break. It’s like a hundred bucks for them to sit there and laugh about the whole thing over dinner. Both of them just milked the publicity, shoved themselves right into the spotlight, and used the chaos to fuel their political agendas and whatever else.

I swear on everything, my gut was telling me there’d be one more twist coming while all those little clues were being dropped. 🥳

Your intuition is officially broken. 🙂

Nah, don't you dare turn it off; you have to see this scene.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting to actually enjoy this. I just kind of clicked on it without any real enthusiasm or drive, mostly because I'm so utterly exhausted by American politics and all the endless stream of content—serious or otherwise—that tries to tackle it. It usually starts putting me to sleep within minutes once they start circling the same old drain. Like, for the thousandth time.

But damn if I was wrong, it was actually pretty good. I loved those few "holy crap" moments—you know, those intense shots like that interceptor sequence during the credits? And that dead heart on the table.

northerncrane4 said:People don't say "Might makes right" for nothing, right?

The wife didn't get to fulfill her own ambitions, though. She had to mold this idiot into a man just so she could live vicariously through him. Now, the daughter is in a position to do what her mother couldn't—so it’s perfectly fine if Cheney supports her, just like he supported the other daughter's lifestyle. The movie frames it as being heartless toward the second daughter, which is total bullshit.

How exactly is it portrayed as "cold-hearted"? Because from that scene, I walked away feeling like, "Hey, at least he's being a decent dad by supporting the second daughter after having already supported the first." Is it considered heartless just because she's crying and throwing a fit?

It seems like the scene was intentionally crafted so that everyone walks away with their own take on that decision. I didn't feel like the film was trying to shove a specific opinion down my throat. And even if it was trying, it failed.

Also, I have to give props to the ending. That little, all-encompassing sequence at the end was almost genius. Right after all those montage shots, just when you think the credits are about to roll out...

That whole bit where Republicans and Democrats argue over their takes on the film, paired with what the younger generation thinks (God, I can't wait for the next Fast and Furious 🙏), was such a perfect way to drive the point home. 🙏

The future. Same old story. Check. 🤣
