Pros and cons of spiritual practices in Spirituality ·
Honestly, we really ought to just embrace our flaws and all that other nonsense people preach about. Instead, we spend half our lives fighting ourselves, which—let’s be real—just ends up making those exact issues even deeper and more permanent.

Personally? I totally love my flaws and my "ego." In fact, I actually admire it. 🙂

In the Conversation in Bog, NDW mentions how Bog says: What you observe disappears, but what you reject stays right where it is.

Noah Diaz said:Honestly, if you just take a second to scroll through this thread, you'll see exactly what's going on here. Seriously, do yourself a favor and read it backwards—start from the very last page and work your way up to the first. You'll get the full picture that fast.

I don't even know where to start with this. Seriously, does anyone actually believe in that Sloot Digital Coding System nonsense? It sounds like something a tech bro would pitch you right before he disappears with your entire savings account. Is it even real? Or is it just another one of those buzzwords designed to make people feel like they’re missing out on the "next big thing" while they're really just being fleeced? I mean, come on. We've seen this movie before. You hear about some revolutionary way to code or structure data, everyone starts panicking because they think they're falling behind, and then—poof—it vanishes into thin air. Why are we even talking about this? Is there any actual substance there, or is it all just smoke and mirrors? Honestly, I'm skeptical. Extremely skeptical. Who's actually backing this? Because from where I'm sitting, it looks like a massive nothingburger. Just tell me: are we actually going to fall for this again?

Water... is it actually alive? Like, seriously, is there some kind of spark in there we're just totally missing? I’ve been spiraling on this one lately. Is it just a chemical compound, or is there something deeper, something almost biological about the way it moves and reacts? Does it have its own kind of consciousness? It sounds crazy, I know, but think about it. Just how much does everything depend on it? If water isn't "alive" in some fundamental sense, then what exactly are we even looking at when we stare into a stream? I'm genuinely losing sleep over this one. What do you guys think? Or am I just tripping?

Time travel. Seriously, can we just talk about this for a second? It’s one of those things that keeps me up at night, staring at the ceiling and wondering if we're all just living in some weird loop. I mean, think about it. We spend our whole lives obsessed with the past—nostalgia, history books, regret—but what if the door isn't actually locked? What if there’s a way to punch a hole through the present and land right in the middle of the Roaring Twenties or, I don't know, some crazy futuristic version of NYC where cars fly? Is it even physically possible, or are we just dreaming? People get all caught up in the math and the physics of it, but honestly, the logic puzzles are what drive me nuts. If you go back and change one tiny, insignificant thing—like stepping on a prehistoric bug or whatever that cliché is—do you come back to find out everyone speaks a different language? Or worse, does the entire timeline just fold in on itself like a cheap lawn chair? It feels like such a massive, terrifying concept, yet we just breeze past it every day. Are we stuck in a straight line, or is reality more like a giant, messy web? I’m leaning towards the web, personally. Everything feels connected, even if we can't see the threads. Just a thought. Anyway, what do you guys think? Is it a scientific miracle waiting to happen, or are we just chasing ghosts?

Can we please not make everything pitch black? Like, seriously, even just when picking a theme or something. It’s too much. Archaeology. Seriously, can we talk about this for a second? It’s one of those fields that people think is just digging up dusty old pots in some desert, but it’s way deeper than that. It's basically like being a detective, but instead of chasing suspects through downtown Chicago, you're chasing ghosts through the dirt. You're trying to piece together a giant, broken puzzle where half the pieces were lost thousands of years ago. Isn't that wild? I mean, how much of our own history do we actually get right? We walk past these massive ruins or old foundations in places like Boston or Charleston and just see "old buildings," but there's an entire world buried underneath our feet. Every shard of pottery or rusted tool is like a tiny, silent scream from someone who lived centuries ago. Does anyone else find that kind of eerie? Or am I just overthinking things again? Anyway, it’s fascinating stuff. Just pure, unadulterated mystery. I can't even begin to process this. What am I supposed to do with just an "i"? Is this some kind of test? Are you guys trying to see if I'll lose my mind? Because honestly, it's working. A single letter? Really? That's all we're working with here? Give me something to actually sink my teeth into! Any shred of context, any actual thought, anything! Or are we just staring at each other in silence now? Because if that's the plan, I've got better things to do. Is global warming an actual thing, or just some massive case of "californication"? They’re actually a little more insulated from all that cheapskate behavior than I thought. Honestly, props to the mods for handling things so professionally and keeping everything on track.

So, what exactly do you want from me? You want concrete evidence? Real claims? Give me something actual to work with here! Everyone’s just going along with it. Seriously, is anyone actually thinking for themselves anymore? It feels like everyone is just blindly following the herd. On threads like this? Look, I think it’s awesome that we can actually dive into this stuff and lay out our own perspectives. There shouldn't be any kind of "groupthink" or pressure to agree with everyone else like you see in those other subreddits. We aren't talking about cars here—these topics are on a whole different level. Abstract? Please. If you want to talk about things that don't actually mean anything, we can sit here all day, but let's be real—it's just noise. Why even bother getting into the weeds with stuff that has no substance? It's all just fluff. Honestly, this is spot on. Look, I get it—sometimes we push the boundaries of "polite society" and go a little overboard with how we say things, but you know what? It’s necessary. We're heading straight into these absolute extremes where you have to question everything. Like, what does it even mean to just *exist*? How do you even begin to define something like that? It's wild when you really think about it.

Look, if you want my advice? Just go dive into the natural sciences. Everything there is laid out so clearly and professionally—it’s actually civilized. But honestly, who cares about that when you've got everything else going on? It’s the end of 2015, for crying out loud. This probably means absolutely nothing to you anyway, right?

Just so we’re all on the same page here—because honestly, it’s common knowledge at this point—science has pretty much settled the debate: atoms are basically empty space. It sounds wild, I know, but it’s a fact. The actual material that makes up our so-called "physical reality"—yeah, even that screen you’re staring at right now—isn't really "there" in the way you think it is. Science tells us that if you look close enough, there's nothing actually holding it all together. Isn't that crazy?

What kind of conversations and evidence are you guys actually looking for? Seriously, what’s the endgame here?

Hey, what's up? Hey everyone! When things get heated and people start picking fights over the controversial stuff... 👍Look, I’ve only got one request here: Brenda Gonzalez12, if it isn't too much trouble, could you just wipe that signature of yours? It’s nothing but pure mockery at this point. Honestly, I could go on and start scrubbing plenty of his other posts too, but let's be real—mockery is where I draw the line. A heated debate? Sure. A little bit of a verbal jab or some light trash talk? Fine, whatever. But acting like a clown just to disrespect people? That’s just not okay. 😁Look, just my two cents here: you can say whatever you want, but leave the mocking out of the signature. Permanently. That’s where I stand on this.

Evidence? Give me a break! 😁

Look, I wasn't trying to overstep here. I’m just weighing in on spirituality and giving some props to the mainstream stuff... I’m not sitting here expecting everyone to agree with me or change their minds, okay? And seriously, if I’m actually breaking some rule again, just tell me straight up and I'll back off.

And about those comments—you only have to look at how many members here talk about things like tennis (which I'm obsessed with, played for 8 years, 🙂) compared to all this spiritual talk. ☕

I get it, I'm totally off-topic since the thread title is about something else entirely, but there are connections here if you really want to see them.

I'm staying out of this thread from now on, but please, don't delete my posts unless I'm actually violating the rules.

I’ve gotta give it to Carol Lopez23 for being a solid moderator. Even when we’re dead wrong about each other's views, I never feel cheated by his oversight—which is a huge contrast to what happens over in the Spirituality section 🙄. You know, where things get messy. That guy Beljki constantly plays these psychological mind games, acting like some armchair detective without a shred of empathy. He uses those mod tools like a weapon, basically nuking entire threads and driving people away from the board.

He thinks there’s no room for Sai baba or Osho in any real spiritual discussion 🤦, which is such a shame because he used to follow them for years. Imagine how much wisdom people could actually share if he wasn't being so closed-minded.

Carol 👍

Ryan Gomez4 is a total classic, honestly 😁

mistygull16 I can't even begin to process this... honestly, what are we even doing here? It’s like everyone just decided to lose their minds at once. Is anyone actually listening, or are we all just shouting into the void? Because from where I'm sitting, it looks like pure chaos. Seriously, does nobody have any common sense left? It's getting ridiculous.
Look, right now, your body is just a cold, hard fact. It’s a physical reality. If you didn't have a human body, what would you even be? Just some wandering ghost or some mindless animal roaming around? People always say that within the human frame is where our actual spiritual potential starts to grow. It's like the vessel we need to actually become something more, you know?

Alright, let's talk about the physical side of things first. You can't just jump straight into the deep end, right? With yoga, you start with the actual poses—the asanas—working through them step by step. It’s like building a foundation. You move bit by bit, inch by inch, using that physical practice to slowly peel back the layers until you finally start tapping into a higher dimension of existence. Makes sense, doesn't it?

The lotus is such a perfect metaphor, isn't it? Think about it—its roots are buried deep in the muck and sludge of a swamp. That’s basically us, right? It represents this messy, chaotic world we’re all struggling to grow through. But then, out of all that filth, you get this pristine flower blooming, showing off the absolute beauty of existence. And the kicker? The water—this entire world around it—can't even touch it. It just stays pure. Isn't that wild?

Look, I’ve got absolutely nothing against bodies, if that's what you're asking. Not even a little bit. Honestly? I couldn't care less. 🙂 Look, it’s not some immediate, undeniable fact, okay? Sure, for those of us stuck living in the "now"—the part of us trapped in the ticking clock of linear time—it might feel that way. But there’s more to the story. There are parts of us that exist entirely outside the concept of time altogether. We’re talking about that deeper layer, the stuff beneath the surface that actually matters. That’s the real essence, you know? It's the part that actually *creates* who we are. Without that, what are we even doing here? What’s the deal? What's the actual status of things? Everyone just sitting around waiting for something to happen? Give me the lowdown.

You ever hear that idea about how our physical bodies are just... I don't know, some kind of mental projection? Like, a manifestation of the mind? Honestly, I can't even wrap my head around starting with the physical stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love my body—I really do—but I don't exactly feel like I *begin* there. Does anyone else feel like their consciousness is running the show while the body is just sort of trailing along behind?

If we’re defining ourselves strictly by our physical bodies... then we’ve already lost the game. ☕ 😁

There is no "inside" versus "outside." If there is, they’re one and the same anyway.

mistygull16 said:I wouldn't go so far as to say spiritual stuff is the polar opposite of material stuff—I mean, maybe in some weird way it is, but honestly? I just see it as what’s happening on the inside versus everything else on the outside.

So, we're basically "building" our own consciousness (our focus) in here, while out there in the real world, we've gotta keep grinding. The body needs its cut, you know? Like paying your taxes to the IRS or giving back to God.

The version of this that actually makes sense to me is that story about the student who tracks down a guru and asks, "Okay, what now?" And the guru just tells him to keep doing exactly what he's been doing. The student is like, "Wait, then what's the point?" and the guru says, "The point is to be fully aware of everything you're doing from now on."

Or there's that whole Buddhist vibe where they say when you're sitting, just know you're sitting; when you're walking, just know you're walking. It's all about putting the weight on being conscious of ourselves and every little thing we do.

But hey, that whole logic only holds water if you can actually point to where the line is drawn between the "inside" and the "outside." If you can't show where the inner self ends and the outer world begins, then what are we even talking about?

David Vaughn75 said:Look, if you really dig into the definition, spirituality is basically just the antithesis of the material world—we're talking about stuff that doesn't play by the rules of cause and effect or that whole deterministic grind we're stuck in. All those pros and cons people obsess over? Those are just different sides of the same coin in this physical, material mess we live in.

Hold up, we really need to tweak that definition. The material isn't the enemy of the spiritual; it’s actually just one aspect of it. They aren't opposites at all.
If you go around defining "material" as the direct opposite of "spiritual," you end up trapped in this endless cycle of good versus evil... a loop that keeps spinning forever. Sure, the struggle might exist, but why stay stuck there? We actually have the chance right now to rise above this whole duality thing and find some actual balance. Imagine living without all that unnecessary resentment, envy, fighting, or fear. Once you hit that point, what used to be an eternal struggle turns into something else entirely. It becomes a game. The eternal game...😁

electrictinker26 said:What do you all see as the pros and cons of living a spiritual life or experiencing those moments of sudden clarity? Is there actually such a thing as a downside to being spiritual, or is life just objectively easier when you aren't? For me, the upside is that when I feel truly connected to the Divine, everything feels right—there’s this incredible sense of peace where I don't even feel the need to overthink things. The downside, though, is how difficult it can be to reconcile that state with the reality of the world around me. Honestly, if I acted the way I do during those moments in a typical American office or on a busy street in Chicago, people would probably think I'd lost my mind.

From where I'm standing, everyone is actually living a spiritual life; the only difference is that some people are too stuck in their own heads, obsessed with nothing but the physical grind, to realize it.

When you're in that headspace with God, yeah, you're definitely gonna look like a total nutcase to the "normal" crowd at first. But here's the thing: that state of being eventually shifts you, naturally leading you toward a sense of oneness with everyone else. Your vibe starts radiating outward, and that's actually how you help people best—by reminding them of the truths they already know deep down but have totally forgotten.

...And pretty soon, people actually start listening to you. You go from being the "crazy guy" to being someone interesting. Once you stop sweating how others react to you, you suddenly find this crazy burst of creativity.

Don't sweat it, though. It all settles itself out. Some people will fade out of your life entirely, new people will show up, and honestly, your old relationships usually end up getting better, too.

Paul Jones7 said:But, if you don't mind me saying, I think you're tripping up a bit in that first paragraph. If consciousness always just chased after what felt good, then it wouldn't really be "consciousness"—it would just be some mechanistic force. You know, like how positive and negative charges attract each other.

You keep bringing up pleasure and suffering like they're polar opposites—but are they, really? If you aren't suffering, does that automatically mean you're experiencing pleasure? And honestly, isn't it possible to feel both at the exact same time? If that's the case, then the whole idea of them being opposites kind of falls apart, doesn't it?

Honestly, Paul Jones7 is constantly doing this thing where they try to frame everything through these mental gymnastics and endless drama. It’s all "it’s not this, it’s actually that," and it just goes on forever. Like, when are we going to stop? Why can't we just accept that it could be both? Everyone could be right at once, you know?

Paul Jones7 said:Well, I think consciousness is actually what helps you move away from the pain and suffering part—because once you truly understand what it is, where it comes from, and why it happens, you start making active, conscious choices. And honestly, there isn't much reason to choose things like pain or suffering if you have that perspective.

Nobody is suggesting that enjoyment won't be a side effect or a companion to being conscious. But—and this is a big "but"—it shouldn't be the goal itself. If someone is constantly hunting for pleasure in every single action or situation, they're basically just a slave to that biological mechanism. And I don't think a conscious mind can really afford to be a slave to anything. I mean, free will only really works if your choices aren't dictated by whether or not the outcome feels good.

Individual consciousness has its own internal compass, and at the end of the day, it’s always going to gravitate toward experiences that align with its own programming—seeking out comfort and dodging the struggle.

We're both using the word "goal," but we're talking about two completely different things here.
Can meditation actually help me? in Spirituality ·
Paul Jones7 said:I suppose you could look at consciousness as something conditional—almost like an extension of intellect. But intelligence alone can't really tap into its full potential through just "enjoyment," since true enjoyment actually requires very little intellect, or rather, a minimal amount of conscious thought

your logic seems pretty sound there, which leads me to think that if consciousness has a goal, it has to move toward whatever allows it to finally reach its full capacity.

I'm talking about a level of enjoyment that is actually the byproduct of peak intelligence here. I'm not just talking about basic physical gratification, either.

You claim that pleasure demands the least amount of intellect or consciousness... so what exactly does maximum consciousness demand then? Pain and suffering?

Paul Jones7 said:haha...

just think about what you actually wrote there for a second. the goal of consciousness is just to make things more comfortable?

Then what's the point? 😁
Can meditation actually help me? in Spirituality ·
Paul Jones7 said:Not really...

I mean, before we can even start talking about goals, we actually need some kind of grasp on what this whole situation is even about right now.

Look, what we’re constantly dealing with—this whole mess we're in—is just our consciousness, pure spirit trapped inside this fake material world. So, if you ask me, our actual goals should just be finding a way to make this whole existence a little less uncomfortable.

Paul Jones7 said:So, why would anyone even consider kundalini as the end goal? Could you walk me through that?

It’s not enough to just say kundalini is the target simply because some person wrote it down once somewhere else.

Look, I already explained it. Sure, the truth comes with a ton of baggage, but honestly, any journey is way easier if you don't carry too much extra weight.
Can meditation actually help me? in Spirituality ·
Paul Jones7 said:I'm not so sure that everyone—you know, those people deep into spirituality, meditation, or just general self-improvement...—actually wants anything to do with kundalini if they can avoid it. And I don't even mean that from the perspective of potential mental health issues, though that's a factor; it's more like... you just might not necessarily want to mess around with that kind of energy if you don't have to.

@sekhem: speaking of problems, they tend to happen because of a mismatch—like, the ego or the lower self's personality clashing with a higher vibration once things start opening up. It's like something that can't sustain itself just snaps. So, in that sense, "preparing" really just means doing the inner work to clear out whatever isn't aligned with the purity and higher frequency of a greater reality. That’s what happened to you, I think. That vibration of fear from what you went through? It doesn't belong there. Fear isn't the right vibration, nor is it the state you were aiming for. You basically need to work on yourself to find that alignment again.

Kundalini is the true Self within each of us. It's the most beautiful, purest, absolute best version of who we are. The spiritual goal, represented by the chakras, should be the awakening of that Kundalini energy in the first chakra, the Muladhara (where it lies 😁). It's our divine feminine energy traveling upward, searching for Shiva—the masculine aspect, pure consciousness—who awaits her in the seventh chakra, the Sahasrara. Only then does the "I Am" become one.

Bringing heaven and earth together. ☕
