Here’s the deal

The kid has to be kept separate from everyone else in the house, which—let's face it—is pretty much impossible in a place like this.
If the test comes back positive, we’ll get an official notice from the CDC detailing the requirements. We just follow whatever orders the health officials hand down.

Basically, your little one can just head off to school tomorrow like everything is totally normal, and while that's happening, you could reach out to the local health department official to ask exactly when a contact of a contact is supposed to start their quarantine and why. You could try asking them to put it in writing.
Because, honestly, if everyone actually followed these rules, we'd all just be doing remote learning all the time, since the logic seems pretty nonsensical to me.
I suspect, though, they probably won't give you a formal written answer that would actually put your mind at ease.

We have a notice posted on the daycare website 😬 but there isn't an official signature from a health officer.

First thing I'm doing is emailing the head of the health department—the one who talks to the state epidemiologist—to demand why a secondary contact is barred from daycare.
By that same logic, neither my husband nor I should even show up to work, right? (I mean, okay, we're vaccinated, but if we weren't...)

urbantinker8 said:Wait, so they didn't even send you a formal decision saying he could attend?🤔
It definitely wasn't like this last year, so maybe you should go ahead and contact the health department and explain how ridiculous this situation is.
It doesn't seem right for a first grader to be stuck doing remote learning when there hasn't even been any close contact, just contact with someone who is currently healthy.🤷

Here’s the play-by-play:
1. Email one: The kid in daycare is likely positive since there are symptoms and a parent tested positive. They're testing tomorrow. But the kids aren't allowed in daycare tomorrow. If the test comes back positive, we get a formal notice about sick leave, which lasts until September 30th.
2. Email two: The epidemiologist writes in stating siblings can't attend school or daycare either.
3. Email three: Suddenly, siblings *can* go to school or daycare tomorrow, but if the kids officially get put on sick leave, then they're barred again.

Total chaos. Just pure chaos.

I’m honestly debating whether I should reach out to some epidemiologists just to get a few perspectives on this. I touched on this in another thread, but here we go: under our current rules, if one kid in the house is in isolation, the siblings aren't allowed in school or daycare—unless you can prove there was zero contact at home, which we all know is a total fantasy.
So, my little guy is basically being barred from class even though his sister is perfectly healthy, meaning he’s losing eight whole days of school. If she stays fine, he’s essentially lost those days for nothing. It feels so pointless. He just started first grade, and now he’s just stuck sitting at home for no reason.

I’m genuinely curious how his teacher is going to react. I guess I’ll just be playing teacher myself, trying to keep up with the curriculum and emailing over his assignments so he isn't completely falling behind.

So, an epidemiologist here sent an email to the daycare director and the head of health services yesterday evening around 9 PM. And they just kept going. Then, because apparently we needed the sleep deprivation, us parents finally got the notification at 7 AM this morning.

One of our relatives is in a class with six positive cases among the older students. A decent amount, I guess.

nimbleranger17 said:Well, if you're talking about self-isolation, strictly speaking, not everyone needs to stay home. If you've had both doses of your vaccine—or even just the single shot if we're talking about Johnson's—you're essentially cleared, provided it’s been at least fourteen days since your last jab but hasn't exceeded the nine-month mark yet. The reason they pushed this window out is because, for all intents and purposes, the vaccine was holding its own for about seven months up until now.

Then there's the second group, which includes people who caught COVID and then went ahead and got their first dose within eight months of recovering. For these folks, they won't be required to quarantine for an additional nine months following that first dose. Of course, there’s a massive caveat here: this doesn't apply to anyone who is immunocompromised or over the age of 65. For them, the rules are different; they really need to get both doses regardless of whether they've already fought off the virus.

Regarding isolation requirements, you don't need to isolate if you've recovered from COVID within the last nine months and can back it up with lab results. These three distinct categories are also going to be reflected in the official COVID certificates. Up until lately, the window was seven months for the vaccinated and six months for those who had recovered.

There's also one more category of people who don't need to isolate. That would be anyone classified as a "probable recovery"—basically, people who displayed all the hallmark symptoms of the illness and were living under the same roof as someone who tested positive. In many cases, doctors didn't even bother sending these patients for testing; they just treated them as having already had it.

So, to put it simply, if you've recovered and then you go and get that first vaccine dose just a day before you hit the eight-month mark post-recovery, you should be safe from having to self-isolate for at least a year and five months.

Thanks.

I'm asking for the kids. I know a few kids in my little guy's class who recovered, but they all caught it back in December. So, they still have to quarantine (since there's no vaccine for seven-year-olds yet).

How much sick leave am I actually entitled to from the state if I've already recovered, but it’s still been 9 months officially?

I was reading another thread where they mentioned FOX reported about 2,000 infected students. Does that mean we're looking at nearly half of all active cases?

So, is there actually a rule against seeing a doctor without a mask? Is that even a thing?
I don't get why everyone is making such a huge deal about masks in schools, but they aren't demanding they be able to walk through hospitals or clinics without them.

Fine then, let's just blame everything on someone. Let's just claim our rights are being violated everywhere we turn.

Elementary School.

The little kids have to wear masks in the hallways, though obviously not inside the classrooms. At the PTA meeting, nobody even raised an objection.

Ethan Campbell81 said:Hold on. Are you actually openly bragging about making your six or seven-year-old wear a mask in class?😵

Given that we all know first graders aren't required to wear masks, why exactly are you forcing your child to wear one?
🤦
The quality of "parents" these days is appalling. 😱

rules of school. Masks are mandatory in the hallways.

I'm not looking for an argument. ☕

The name Gaćina will forever be etched into the history of the truth surrounding the pandemic in America.

Why don't they just stand outside the local CVS and announce they aren't wearing masks inside?
Why not picket the community clinic and demand doctors see patients without them?
Why not head to a diner and argue that eating without a mask makes no sense, yet somehow it's fine when you're using the restroom?

It’s always easiest to hide behind a kid.

My little one puts on their mask when they head into the classroom. But I've already caught them a few times just forgetting to wear it once they're heading home 🤣 And nobody says a word, so no big deal, I guess.

Chris Grant3 said:I finally realized what the real issue is—it’s the sheer absurdity of these COVID-19 mandates that’s driving everyone crazy. That’s why people are pushing back. I mean, seriously, what is the actual point of wearing a mask in these specific spots? It makes zero sense. You’re required to wear one just walking down a hallway, but the second you step into a classroom, walk out in front of the school, or enter the gym, it’s suddenly fine to take it off. It’s the same deal at a cafe; you don't need it while sitting at your table, but if you're just three feet away from the restroom, you have to pull it back up. What is the logic there? Once I looked at it through that lens, I totally understood where they were coming from with their frustration.

If my goal was to cause trouble, I'd rather vent about everything else instead of dragging my kid into a fight.
I'm genuinely curious to see what the rest of his classmates are saying about all this.

And honestly, what on earth are his parents doing that allows them to sit outside with him all morning?
2021/2022 School Year in Coronavirus ·
So, the kid says he can't breathe while wearing a mask.
Seriously? Like, just walking down the hallway to class where he'll take it off anyway?

What happens when he goes to the grocery store? Does he just skip the mask there too? Honestly, he doesn't even have to go. Or what if he has to see a doctor? Would he be expected to wear one then, and would he be able to breathe?
2021/2022 School Year in Coronavirus ·
Honestly, I just feel for the kid. Who knows what's actually going through his head with all this chaos?

edit

Aha, so he doesn't even want the mask himself—he’s actually leading the charge against them. It’s not like the parents are forcing him; he’s the one driving it.

I didn't read the whole thing closely. What grade is the kid in?

Our little kindergarteners are getting block periods 😁 hopefully just so they don't have to lug around as much gear

As for masks, apparently they need them in the hallway when heading to the restroom or coming and going—that was the word yesterday. But they did mention we should stay tuned since things might change
