PC upgrade ideas? in Desktops ·
Everything finally arrived and is all set up. I also picked up an extra Corsair TX 650 power supply, a Meshify C case, and an Aorus Extreme 1080 Ti.
I went with all-new parts, so I’m handing my old rig down to the kids.

Thanks for the help, guys.

Oblozen really makes sure there’s a fan peeking out from every single corner. At this rate, the next logical step is just building a cage around the whole PC.

I think I'm actually going to go with Aorus. It’s a bit more expensive upfront, but it gives me peace of mind knowing I've got that warranty coverage for another year and a half. Who knows? If it dies, maybe I'll luck out and get a 2080 Ti in its place.

crimsonstag84 said:If you're looking at an ASUS ROG model or an MSI Gaming X, you really can't go wrong with either of those three. Just try to find the one with the longest warranty and make sure it's coming from a reputable retailer.

Regarding newer cards, if we're talking about the NVIDIA RTX 2060 or the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 in that same bracket, both are actually over 30% slower.<30%

From what I understand, the Aorus models have better cooling than the MSI ones. Given that I have a pet dog and a cat that loves to nap right on top of the vents (I'm being completely serious), I think that extra cooling would be a huge plus. My current Strix is actually over in Europe, bought in Germany, and still has two years of warranty left. It sounds like the best option, but unfortunately, I can't just drive over to someone's house to pick it up.
I'm honestly not sure if it's worth the gamble.

I mean, wiredotter14, you've got a point there, but who's really going to sweat those tiny details?
I ended up picking up the drive on sale.

On another note, just to keep you guys on your toes—I actually sold my GPU this afternoon. I was looking closely at an ASUS GTX 1080.
Right now, looking at the 1080 Ti, I can find Aorus, ASUS, or MSI models ranging from about $100 to $100, basically anywhere between $350 and $380. Since you all helped me save a decent chunk of change on the other components, what would you recommend out of those three?

Or would it be smarter to just put that money toward something newer?

Thanks for the advice.
I'm about to start putting this together.

Small edit: those prices at the retailer apply $250 when you're buying through a business account. Otherwise, it's just the $303 item price plus shipping $40. Marketing ftw.

Keep the current power supply.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm in a bit of a rush, so I'm planning to pick everything up within the next few days.

PC upgrade ideas? in Desktops ·
Hello,

I’m looking for some advice regarding a PC upgrade. My goal is to build a system that will stay relevant for the next few years without needing another overhaul. I'm planning on buying everything in cash from various local retailers.

ASUS Z390 Aorus Pro, $567
Intel Core i5-9700 or an i5-8600, $700
NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti (if I can find one), $1067
Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD, $333
A decent air cooler for the $83, as I don't plan on overclocking.

I am keeping:
Cooler Master Haf 2 case
A 120GB Crucial MX500 120GB SSD (not sure which model), a 250GB Samsung SSD, and a 1TB WD hard drive for storage.

I'm also debating whether to swap out my EVGA 650W power supply and my G.Skill 2x4GB RAM kit, since they're sitting at 1333MHz and I think it's time for an upgrade.

I'm skipping over AMD because I have no interest in overclocking.
The rig will be used by me for gaming (everything from Project Zomboid to Battlefield, though lately I've been leaning toward slower-paced games) and by my wife for web and graphic design work.

Do you have any better suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Bad Boys - Part IV in Fans ·
I am truly at a loss for words regarding this situation. It is deeply unsettling to see things escalate to this level. kaže:
I just received an email response from the string.

As many people are aware, back on Sunday, October 26, 2014, a major league soccer match took place at the Rose Bowl between Los Angeles FC and the Portland Timbers. During that game, a segment of the fans—specifically members of the Bad Boys stationed in the north stands—engaged in several unlawful activities. These actions violated Article 4 of the Anti-Riot Act regarding sporting events, ranging from the use of pyrotechnics and destruction of stadium property to shouting racial slurs and issuing direct threats. All of this was thoroughly documented, both through the stadium's surveillance footage and the live television broadcast. Due to the conduct of those fans in the north stands, Los Angeles FC was penalized following a decision by the USSF disciplinary judge.
We have pointed this out on numerous occasions: because of this exact type of behavior over the last few years, Los Angeles FC has been sanctioned dozens of times by both UEFA and the USSF. Just last year, we were hit with a million-dollar fine and forced to play matches behind closed doors in an empty stadium. Currently, the club is under a conditional penalty, where any recurrence of these illegal actions would trigger consequences that could have devastating, long-term impacts on our club.
Los Angeles FC utilizes a personalized ticketing system for all our sporting events, which requires fans to present valid identification at the time of purchase. To ensure we remain fully compliant with our obligations as organizers under the Anti-Riot Act, we have established our own internal database. This allows us to maintain a clear record of exactly who attended a specific match and which section of the stadium they occupied. Specifically, Article 32 of the Anti-Riot Act dictates our responsibilities regarding ticket distribution. Under paragraph 7 of that article, we are legally obligated to refuse the sale or allocation of tickets for a competition to any individual for whom we possess knowledge of prior unlawful behavior. Furthermore, we are required to take proactive measures to prevent such individuals from accessing the sports venue entirely. It is important to clarify that the concept of "possessing knowledge of prior unlawful behavior" is not strictly limited to whether an individual is currently under a court order or protective measure; those specific scenarios are governed separately by paragraphs 5 and 6 of the same article. Our authority to act is not restricted solely to information provided by law enforcement or judicial bodies, nor does it depend on whether formal charges have been filed against a person for a violation. As organizers, we can acquire this necessary information through our own observations—primarily via the stadium's video surveillance systems—or through the application of legal authorities held by the onsite security services. In exercising this specific paragraph, we act independently and are not required to seek prior approval from the FBI.
Please be advised that under Article 32, Section 4 of the Anti-Riot Act regarding sporting events, once a court issues a final ruling on an offense that includes a ban from attending certain matches, the court is required to notify the national sports federation. The federation then carries the responsibility of informing the event organizers. All data concerning these individuals is maintained in a restricted database, which is used strictly for the purpose of denying ticket sales or access to the venue.
Based on everything we have reviewed, and in full compliance with both federal laws and USSF and UEFA regulations, we have reached a decision regarding ticket sales. Moving forward, we will deny ticket purchases to individuals who were part of the group responsible for illegal conduct during our match against the Portland Timbers at the Rose Bowl. We want to be incredibly clear: this decision is strictly targeted at those specific individuals whose behavior in the stands causes direct harm to the very club they claim to support. This isn't about turning our backs on the community; in fact, we have no interest in supporting anyone whose actions undermine the players on the pitch. Our primary goal, and indeed our responsibility, is to ensure that everyone attending our matches feels safe, allowing fans to cheer for Los Angeles FC in a peaceful and relaxed environment.

One really ought to be asked if they’ve reported this data collection to the FTC.
I am genuinely curious to know.
Discussion about Ukraine in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Nathan Brooks4 said:If I may offer a suggestion for consideration:

- Labeling the Ukrainian government as fascist, or calling the Ukrainian military fascists, is a constant occurrence on this thread. There are books one can read to actually learn about fascism, and there are concise definitions available to understand what it entails. After countless inquiries asking for an explanation of why the Ukrainian government or military is considered fascist, we have yet to receive a single reasoned response. In my view, until someone can provide at least a semi-decent argument for such claims, this kind of labeling should be characterized as mere trolling.

But is it okay to call Putin a fascist?
- Regarding the ban on drawing parallels, the most common ones involve comparisons to the US War of Independence. The reality is that in conflicts like this, people always draw parallels and comparisons; there are undeniable similarities to the US War of Independence, the war in Georgia, and many other historical conflicts. As long as those parallels are backed by reasonable argumentation, they should be permitted.

- Mentioning Chetniks is also something I see everyone complaining about. The fact remains that Chetniks are present in Ukraine—whether they are involved in active combat operations is a question, but they certainly boast about it themselves. Since the topic is Ukraine, it is only natural that this aspect, and the Chetnik movement itself, will be commented upon.

Bringing up Chetniks? It seems the entire pro-Russian faction on Reddit labels everyone as Chetniks, regionalists, communists, and so on. It happens constantly, quite frankly.
Besides, why shouldn't we comment on the US and its policies (given their military and political involvement in the conflict in Ukraine)? Following that logic, why not NATO, then the EU, then where does it end? I remember the warnings being thrown around because "the topic isn't the US"...

- Links in Russian using Cyrillic. Most often, they are either untranslated or translated via Google Translate, and even more often, it's just the headline. We have to consider that most participants in this thread don't know Russian. If the person posting the link doesn't know Russian themselves, it leads to certain absurdities and potential misinformation. I support posting links in Russian (and Cyrillic) only if the author can translate the entire article without relying on Google Translate. Otherwise, it becomes highly questionable to follow authors who post such articles, as well as the credibility of their translations, which can ultimately lead to misinformation.
I absolutely agree.

- I would also like to call on the moderators and administrators to discuss a concerning phenomenon occurring on this thread. It involves the celebration and encouragement of uncivilized behavior that goes against all rules of war and international conventions. In fact, there is often a sense of rejoicing when such news breaks, along with a partisan-style support for crimes and an indirect call to justify them. You all should reach some sort of conclusion regarding this and formulate it into a specific rule for the thread.

I'm on the same page here. Of course, I assume you're also referring to how the Ukrainian artillery targets civilians and all the other things the UA and DS have been up to...

Accusing me of being some massive troll while pushing that kind of paid propaganda is honestly as delusional as Milanović’s latest meltdown.
If you can actually point to one instance of me trolling in the style of a Kansas-based USAfreedompalatz operative, I'll buy you a beer—assuming you aren't just reacting to their lovely posts.

William Bennett53, do you really think it's acceptable for moderators to engage in trolling within the exact same threads where they penalize other users for the same behavior, regardless of whether those users are pro-American or pro-Russian trolls?
Either let the thread go down the drain entirely (which, frankly, it already has) or have the administration refrain from trolling in it altogether.

What part of that is controversial or unnecessary?

@rustydrifter10

I wasn't asking for moderators to be sanctioned; I was simply suggesting they refrain from making those kinds of posts, especially since similar comments are already cluttering the thread.
As I previously stated:

and everyone before was just caught in a chaotic whirlwind. if I recall correctly, there were links here about how shaky mining hands try to aim at dots in a clear blue summer sky—everyone was just trying to prove themselves by provoking at altitudes under 3,000ft.

well, Zbigniew was busy showing off, handing out Stingers to hikers, while those mining instructors in Ukraine just won't come out of hiding. it’s still just a bunch of barehanded miners out there.

they're doing fantastic. so fantastic, in fact, that arrows snatched by bare, weathered mining hands from abandoned warehouses—calmed down by some cheap bourbon and rough spirits—are reaching twice the heights specified in manuals that haven't been blurred or forgotten by the sick or by time.

From the perspective of Ukraine, the EU, and the USA, Crimea belongs to Ukraine, and it's currently occupied by Russian terrorists who need to be eliminated.

I personally think that's being far too generous. We shouldn't allow them to retreat; they should be surrounded and neutralized completely. You don't negotiate with terrorists.

Both posts have been reported through the standard channel (using the triangle icon).

The Ukraine discussion: Is this supporting terrorism? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
William Bennett53 said:After reviewing the discussion and reading through the supermoderator's exhaustive explanation, I believe this thread has finally reached its natural conclusion.
A moderator's fairness is demonstrated by treating everyone equally; just because one side is currently drowning out the other with sheer volume doesn't mean the other side needs special protection.

I suggest we step back now. If you feel there are specific posts that were reported but weren't penalized or removed when they should have been, please feel free to reach out with those direct links.

Does this standard apply to the "loud" side as well?
Are we reporting these issues for moderation, or are we gathering evidence for potential action by the relevant authorities? There is a massive distinction here—if it's the former, that's fine, but if it's the latter, I honestly don't wish ill will on anyone, regardless of how much I disagree with them. At the end of the day, this is just an online forum.

loneraven25 said:Punish them? No. A Moderator isn't an authorized official
tasked with handing out punishments under the aforementioned federal criminal code.
The job of a moderator on this specific thread is actually quite complex,
as they are caught right in the middle of censorship and the obligation to report violations.
Any posts that directly violate US laws
should be reported to the appropriate legal authorities.

Is that so?😁
You have the IP address and the post; just report it to the Department of Justice—just don't go to the FBI. If they hear "IP address," they start thinking they need to file paperwork with the IRS.😂 😂 😂 (Just kidding. Yeah, right.)
In all seriousness, I’d give it a 5% chance that absolutely nothing will happen even if you do file a report.

I assume that by citing Section 89 of the criminal code, you're actually trying to invoke paragraph 3? Please point me toward any other section of the US criminal code that allows for sanctioning an individual simply for expressing an opinion regarding the subject of the discussion on Ukraine—specifically regarding the term you're focusing on: aggression.

My honest opinion? If reporting is necessary, moderation should be reporting both sides, not just one. For instance, we see certain terms being dissected here, while (it seems to me!!!) I actually have a screenshot at home of a pro-American user calling for the "extinguishment" or "slaughter" of Russians as a people or ethnic group. Now we're getting into several different sections of the criminal code, aren't we, loneraven25? (I'll try to find it and send it to you if you want). But we wouldn't report those, would we? Nor would we report the mountain of posts overflowing with hatred toward a specific nationality?

Regardless, sooner or later, some report will end up reaching me one way or another, and judging by certain criteria, I might even end up reporting myself.🤣
Can't wait.

EDIT: loneraven25, how would you classify this post?
XXXXXX_ said:To stabilize the situation in Ukraine, specifically in Donetsk and Luhansk, half of the ethnic Russians from those areas simply need to be relocated to Russia.

I am asking the moderation team to understand that I am not trolling; I am merely trying to point out that reporting things to the Department of Justice or the relevant federal prosecutors is absurd and pointless.

I’m asking everyone to please stick to the topic and back up your claims with actual evidence (links). We can't move forward if we don't follow these rules.

Which claims specifically?
What kind of proof am I supposed to provide that I haven't already laid out?
Even better, how am I meant to prove that I've reported trolling and offensive posts, only to have the moderator ignore them, while Chuck would have been handing out warnings the very next day? Meanwhile, Rocky has been busy handing out penalties to anyone who disagrees with him.
I honestly don't understand how you all can act like everything is fine when so many people are complaining.
Besides, as far as I know, the moderators here aren't getting paid, so I'm not sure why there is such an intense push to "prove" things that are clearly visible.
Just lock the thread with a note saying you have no intention of changing Rocky or holding him accountable, and let's call it a day. Let's stop kidding ourselves.

Jack Cook7 said:Prorus, a nationalist, a sympathizer... are those just labels used to describe an interlocutor? Or are they labels meant to justify getting punched in the face during a debate?

And nobody is out to get Rock personally.

I simply presented the facts. In reality, Rock is the only one who has consistently handed me infractions over the last month, and that’s specifically regarding the Ukraine thread, even though I’ve posted at least twice as much on other topics during this period, and I certainly haven't changed my writing style.

I don't have any issue with penalties. When I’ve been arrogant or rude—because everyone loses their cool sometimes—I deserved it. I shut up, stayed quiet for a few months if necessary, and waited for the penalty to expire without using clones or filing appeals. I’m no saint, nor do I claim to be. My only regret is that whenever I disagreed with a penalty, I didn't publicly state it here on the PŽK, acknowledging whoever penalized me (including Rock) and apologizing to anyone I snapped at. I'm not complaining about Rock when I've lost my temper (I'd have to check my inbox to be sure). When I do complain, I make it clear. To reiterate, my issue isn't with Rock's personal views as a forum member.

The goal of these appeals on the PŽK is to make the Ukraine discussion higher quality—more factual and analytical—rather than letting it be hijacked by a few "human bots" from either side. This shouldn't be achieved by moderators cutting down anyone who makes a minor technical error. Especially when it feels like it's targeting one specific side.

So, can moderation actually achieve a more balanced distribution of opinions among participants? Can you truly manage the collective opinion of the people discussing?

You aren't alone.
Honestly, the sheer level of bias here has made reading and commenting feel exhausting.
Back when I received an official response to an appeal claiming I was constantly trolling and that my writing style was incomprehensible, I actually had to go to therapy because I couldn't stop laughing.
While certain individuals engage in massive trolling using terms like "nationalist," "thug," or "lunatic," others get slapped with warnings just for failing to include a description next to a link about Obama's gym routine.🤣
It gets even better when I remember my first interaction with this particular moderator, who classified the word "wimp" as hate speech.
As for the reporting system and the failure to follow through on reports, I don't even want to get into it.
If anyone actually wanted to remove Rock from the moderation team, they would have done it a hundred times by now. The evidence is scattered all over the Ukraine threads.

So, there it is.
