I mean, he probably would've just absolutely bullied the entire grid, I guess. Like, looking at how he's currently making life pretty difficult for Lando Norris, you know?
😬
James Harris34 said:Look, we all know who the real underdog is here. I mean, if you look at all the data points and listen to basically any top-tier expert out there, it’s pretty obvious that Red Bull Racing has the fastest car on the grid this year, but hey, maybe you're just the smartest guy in the room, right?

frozenheron7 said:I feel the same way, I guess. Mercedes is still showing some signs of life, but honestly, it feels like it's almost entirely down to Lewis Hamilton's sheer talent at this point. Red Bull Racing is clearly the superior machine, so I don't really see how Mercedes or Lewis could pull off a championship this year, unless something absolutely wild and catastrophic happens to Red Bull.__

Yeah, I'm with you there. Back in Turkey, it was basically just Lewis Hamilton's skill that kept Valtteri Bottas from falling apart, allowing him to dominate that wet race. Because, well, everyone's known for years now that when the weather gets unpredictable, Bottas is pretty much untouchable.

Not exactly feeling that whole kamikaze vibe today, I guess.

I’d say 2:1 odds on Mercedes-Benz

Max is basically playing in his own league at this point.
Joe’s sitting in seventh, and I mean, maybe he could somehow drag that Alfa Romeo into a points finish if things go perfectly, but honestly, it feels like a long shot.
The track is such a tight little karting circuit, too; it’s probably just asking for someone to go overboard and wreck their car, especially since there are plenty of drivers eager to try it, and if the track gets even slightly damp... well, things could get messy.
👋
So, word on the street is the folks over at Mercedes are basically known for being a bit clueless, which I guess explains why, even though everyone was calling for rain this Sunday at Spa-Francorchamps, they still went ahead and put Lewis Hamilton out there with a dry setup because they were banking on some sunny afternoon vibes in Arden.
That's just how the politics work, I suppose.
wiredseal7 said:Honestly, this is one of those absolute low points for NASCAR.
I mean, they’ve never been quite this overly cautious about rain before, so I guess you have to wonder why it's such a massive deal in this era?
The worst part is, the conditions actually looked decent around 3 PM; they could have totally made it work, or if nothing else, just cruised through some laps under the SC and waited for things to clear up.
But instead, we just get these drivers whining about visibility... though, I don't know, when was the last time we had a wet race where visibility wasn't already a nightmare?

Given how NASCAR works these days—where basically any kid whose parents have enough cash can just slide into a seat—I'm not even surprised we're seeing stuff like this.
It kind of makes me think back to USA 2007 or USA 1996 or Monaco 1984... or whatever else comes to mind. Half of today's grid probably wouldn't have even survived those races.
silverviper44 said:They broadcast it, but honestly, it's just four races.
ESPN is carrying the race.

Right? I mean, I'm pretty sure I could swear I actually caught some coverage on ABC this year.

Btw,
that Canadian M4 channel broadcasts everything in HD, and the best part is there aren't even any commercials.
😁
mellowtiger83 said:I think I actually have German ABC on my Verizon plan, just the basic cheap one, but honestly I don't really know if they carry it or not since I haven't bothered looking up the specifics.

Well, German ABC isn't broadcasting Formula 1 this year, so that's probably not going to help you much.
What a total circus.
Richard Walker38 said:And he died, too.
If you asked me, we’d probably have even more Bianchi drivers out there today if things had gone differently.

Honestly, Bianchi was gone, God rest his soul, because of a mistake he made himself.
Honestly, when you're dealing with this whole "participation trophy" generation, I guess you can't really expect anything besides constant whining about how everything is just too hard or too dangerous.
"Adjust your speed to the road conditions," they say. Wow. Real groundbreaking stuff right there. !!!!
🧐
Jason Campbell70 said:They could've just gone with a full wet setup and totally ignored any chance that part of the race might actually dry out tomorrow.
I guess the guys at the front can't really afford to gamble like that unless they're absolutely certain about the forecast.
Then again, I suppose Williams Racing has pretty much nothing to lose.

Actually, wait, I might be talking nonsense here, because from what I've gathered, everyone is pretty much calling for rain right during the race.

Btw, I wonder if George Russell can actually make it back in time, since it's such a long race.
Sam Clark75 said:Where on earth did George Russell find that line... 🙏

I don't even bother asking those kinds of questions anymore, not after what happened with the pastor and Spain 2012.
😬
I mean, if they put Bottas in the Mercedes, I guess we'll just have to see what George Russell does with it... we'll probably figure out pretty quickly at Turn 1 tomorrow whether he actually has the goods or not...
😬
If Alfa Romeo Racing doesn't pull it together for 2022, I guess they might just officially become the most clueless management team in the history of Formula 1.

shadowmarlin22 said:Alonso is showing everyone exactly what he's made of. Honestly, he's easily one of the top three drivers out there right now, even if you put him alongside Lewis and Max.

I mean, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. I guess Alonso did have a stellar race, and his defense was pretty solid until things went sideways, but at the end of the day, his teammate won in that exact same car. It’s not like he was dragging a Haas F1 Team to a podium finish; he was in a Renault, which has always had some decent bite on this track, and we saw that play out during that chaos in the first lap.
Without all that wreckage getting in the way, he probably would've just been fighting for a lonely point like he usually does,
and honestly, saying he's on the same pace as Max or Lewis feels like a bit of a stretch to me.
I suppose putting anyone on the grid next to Max is a massive debate anyway. I'm not really his biggest fan, but man, he's just operating on a different level this season.

Jason Campbell70 said:Anyway, looking at Alonso-Rajkonen, there’s maybe an eighteen-month gap between them if you’re just talking about age.
But when it comes to actual driving talent? It's night and day, honestly.
While Maestro was out there basically performing miracles by keeping up with the NFL GOAT in a total underdog car, Valtteri Bottas was just kind of... busy getting overtaken by Nikita Mazepin. And I think that happened in the pit lane, too.

It’s kind of like back in 2017 when he was lapping him for the whole damn race.

And hey, he’s locked in with that contract through at least 2026...
