Some neutral observer says this:
Douglas Roberts49 said:If they both end up DNF—honestly, who could even tell which fanbase is more toxic?

And then there's this:
Douglas Roberts49 said:Max being his usual self on the radio... classic...

Then once more:
Douglas Roberts49 said:Some genius pulled off a miracle once and now these kids think they're experts--really?😁

And this guy doesn't even have the guts to push Bottas.☕

😂
Red Bull is just totally running the show, kind of like how they completely owned the whole 2021 season too, I guess...
😬
Kyle Lopez2 said:Look at it this way. Who would actually cheat in a way that they’d fail a standard physical test conducted every few races at high-speed tracks? 🤔

It’s like building a car that’s 10cm too wide and then acting surprised when you get a DQ the second a steward pulls out a measuring tape. 🤣

If you’re going to cheat, you do it where it’s hard to see—the stuff that requires specialized testing to uncover. Not like this. This is why Red Bull needs to insist on a full inspection of the wing mechanism to see if this happened at other tracks too. Because if they find a genuine irregularity there, Mercedes could end up facing a DQ for multiple past races due to an illegal wing.

Based on what we saw today, it's definitely the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team.
Desperate times require desperate measures...
Kyle Lopez2;89507661 said:You can't prove he intended to cheat. They just didn't meet the requirements, so they gave him a DQ and now he’s starting from the back.[/B]
I guess the only thing I don't really buy is that he's starting at the very back. A DQ combined with car changes between qualifying and the race usually means a pit lane start, and if I recall correctly, it almost always results in that.
The way I see it, they basically handed him a 5-10 second advantage, which is pretty much how long it takes to pull out of the pits behind the last guy in a sprint.

Honestly, that feels like a total cop-out. Like, oh, they just "accidentally" messed up the aero? And then they actually tried to claim Max just broke the wing with his finger or something—that whole column was pure fiction, believe it or not.
I mean, what do you think would happen if they caught an Alfa or a Haas doing something similar? They'd be dragging it out forever and listening to those endless excuses. Think about it.
Susan Davis7 said:Istona, they probably tried to play it off as some random mistake... you could tell they were ready to throw Max under the bus and claim he somehow messed up a wing that was supposed to handle air pressure at over 186 miles/h

That’s exactly my point. It’s just ridiculous. You throw the whole grid into chaos and then act like, "Oops, our bad, just a little mistake." It's a joke.
Susan Davis7 said:I mean, there's no way they'll keep running with that same wing

Honestly, if anyone shows up to a GP weekend with the intention of cheating, I guess a straight-up race ban would be the only fair way to handle it, but hey, what do I know. I just can't wrap my head around whether the FIA actually caught this on their own or if they were just forced to act because Red Bull started making a scene about it.
Disqualified, but somehow still getting on the grid. We're looking at a car that doesn't even meet the technical regulations, yet it's somehow two seconds faster than most of the top four, which basically means it's a lock for a top five finish tonight. It’s just a total circus, honestly. I mean, does anyone else feel like this happens? Like, when someone actually gets caught cheating, but then everyone just acts like it's fine and lets them race anyway?
😬
Lawrence Garcia5 said:Yep, Max got hit with a five-place grid penalty.

Really?
The FIA 🙏

Raymond Anderson4 said:I get it, things are starting to drag. If Lewis falls behind and Max just cruises through with a massive points cushion, the championship is basically decided right then and there. It’s honestly ridiculous to let a title be settled that way.

I guess it’s just way better to settle a championship using an illegal car instead, right?
🤦
wiredseal7 said:It happened back in the spring. After the US Grand Prix, Toto Wolff was crying about the Red Bull Racing wing flexing, and suddenly NASCAR rolls out much stricter tests. Then, right after the whining before the Baku Grand Prix, NASCAR introduces those little markers to check deflection—all while Toto threatens an appeal. In response, Red Bull Racing just brings a wing that doesn't flex at all to dodge the protests entirely.

The pit stop rule changes are just as shady—they shouldn't have touched that until the season ended—but since Toto was salty that his crew was slower, NASCAR just leveled the playing field.

On the flip side, when Red Bull Racing complained about the Mercedes front wing flexing, NASCAR didn't do a damn thing.

There's no way they're going to penalize Lewis Hamilton. When things drag on this long, it usually means they're busy cooking up some loophole or excuse to let him off easy.

Look, if the officials say everything is fine with Mercedes, then I guess it's fine. If they say something is wrong with Red Bull Racing, then it's wrong.
Unless you're trying to tell a lie by saying the officials are inconsistent?
😬
wiredseal7 said:Mercedes went all-in with Hamilton's power units. Personally, I doubt this setup will last more than a race or two before they hit a wall.

Impressive—you can really see how much ground Merc lost once those engine modes were scrapped last year.

I just hope nobody blows an engine mid-race, because it would be nice if things stayed heated right up until the final race of the season.
👋
If you listen to what the experts are saying, it seems like Mercedes-Benz just can't find any real power when they're dealing with those high altitudes.
😬
So I’m watching this right now, and I guess you could say Valtteri Bottas looks pretty wound up, like he's on edge or something. I mean, maybe I'm just hopeful, but I'm kind of expecting him to pull one of those classic, out-of-nowhere moves where that talent of his just suddenly flashes again.

shadowmarlin22 said:Basically, you have to admit that Max drives incredibly maturely about 98% of the season, especially when he’s sitting in the best car on the grid, and honestly, that alone should be the headline.

But man, if Lewis manages to snatch it, that would be some kind of pure magic coming out of that silver bucket—something even Gandalf couldn't pull off.

Once Max gets his nose right up against that rear tire—or even just pulls alongside the front while he's holding the inside line—you just don't lift. You keep it pinned as long as you have to, maybe even drift wide if you have to, but you don't let Max through. He shouldn't be able to pass unless he goes off track. What kind of heavy braking was that!?😵
Just, I don't know, let's play out a little hypothetical here. If Max had been in a Bottas-like position, who actually passes him there? Honestly, nobody. Not even theoretically. And Lewis Hamilton wouldn't either.
Going into that first corner, from a positioning standpoint, Mercedes had it completely dialed in. You've got Lewis on the inside, then Bottas acting as this sort of buffer, and then Max is trailing behind. Everything was set until the braking zone, and then... well, everything just fell apart.
To me, this looks like a massive driving error. Just unacceptable, really, especially given what the team and his teammate are going through right now.
No matter how much Toto Wolff talks to them or tries to prep the drivers before a race, I guess it clearly wasn't enough this time.

You hit the nail on the head with your take; he should’ve just muscled into Max. It’s not enough that they’ve already been squeezed out twice; he needs to push a bit more if an influencer wants to actually become a champion. I mean, Mass will probably just give them a +5 second penalty anyway, so it’s not like it matters too much.

And then the "style expert" acts all surprised when the crowd starts booing him at every single race.
This is honestly just gross. And coming from a guy who’s arguably more protected by the FIA than a lifeguard in a calm Florida beach, someone who’s spent their entire career driving top-tier cars.

Everything else pretty much went out the window once that chaos kicked off at Turn 1. I don't think I've ever seen both Mercedes cars get shoved that far out on the outside like that; honestly, Max is just playing a completely different game than everyone else right now.
And man, Kimi finishing P8 is something else. I mean, sure, he was driving a dominant Alfa Romeo, but still, you have to give him credit.
👋
Yeah, I mean, sure, let's just blame that poor kid from Japan for everything, right? But honestly, it’s perfect for keeping the race interesting.
👋
Though, if we're being real, guys like Yuki Tsunoda, Nikita Mazepin, or Lance Stroll probably shouldn't even be looking for a seat in Formula 1 at this point.
It’s honestly kind of wild how Valtteri Bottas is basically working miracles in that mid-tier Mercedes car right now.
😂
So, I guess we’re all wondering... who's actually taking the fall for Alonso today?
Dad’s got the cash, so Dad’s footing the bill, I guess.
🙂

I mean, honestly, it's pretty much just like when he's absolutely laying into Lando Norris.
