I love cats! They're just such wonderful little companions, aren't they? I guess they really do make a house feel like a home! kaže:
Just dropping a link isn't really enough, I guess. A lot of those links end up breaking after a few years anyway, which makes it super tough to follow old threads when you can't actually see what everyone was talking about!

And honestly, having that "Android user using Tapatalk" signature on every single post is just straight-up spam, I guess.

I get what you mean, but I mostly just felt like there wasn't really a need to post every single article that comes out on this topic. It's totally fine if there’s something to comment on regarding a specific piece, but if the moderators say it's okay, then I guess I'll respect that!

I didn't see anything in the rules about this being spam, so I guess if a moderator or admin gives me a heads-up, they could maybe ban me for good.

Thanks for getting back to me! It just bugs me how people constantly drop full articles into threads without adding any actual commentary. I mean, imagine if we all started pasting entire stories word-for-word from every news site out there. Nobody does that, though—except for this one guy who used to get flagged for just posting links, so now he just copies the whole article instead. It’s not the end of the world, I guess, but I don't really see the point. This forum is supposed to be about sharing opinions and actually talking things through, and news clips should just be there to support that discussion. Posting entire articles feels a bit like spam to me, honestly.

It's totally fine if someone quotes a snippet from an interview to talk about it or something. But since these are such big topics, I feel like we should try to avoid those massive, unnecessary posts. It would probably make everything much easier to read for both the users and the moderators.

I'll throw out some examples just to make it easier to judge.
The most recent one:
manchild said:"I don't think the minor parties will make it into Congress on their own. This feels like cautious maneuvering that might not actually work for the election results. Neither side seems to be counting on a clear win; instead, they’re gearing up for a coalition with the Libertarian Party. It's pretty clear the Republican Party is in a stronger spot here, and all of that depends on whether Bishop Košić's statement ends up blocking a coalition between the Libertarian Party and the Democratic Party. "", according to what Puhovski told BuzzFeed.

Also, regarding the stuff about the Republican Party, there are two posts in a row that are basically just copy-pasted snippets from the article:

post 3947

I was wondering if the moderator thinks a post like this counts as spam or not?

It feels like this one user is basically acting like a political manchild, constantly breaking the rules by just dropping copy-pasted articles without saying a single word about them. Today, they posted the exact same thing in both the Republican Party thread and the Democratic Coalition thread—just a straight copy-paste comparing their election promises. I guess it would be way more helpful if they just shared the link along with a quick summary or a personal take on what’s happening. This just feels like spam. Maybe you could give them a heads-up if this goes against the community guidelines?

Bringing IMG tags back to the Teens subforum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Please don't troll this thread! I really want to show the admins that the users over at Teens are super interested in getting an image upload option on their subforum. Thanks! 🙂

Since the forum rules allow us to post images, and sometimes a picture really does say more than a thousand words, I guess there's no reason we shouldn't take advantage of that when the site lets us.
It’s just way easier to read everything when the image is right there with the text instead of having to click a random link every single time! If the moderators feel like managing images is too much work, maybe they could just hand that task off to someone else who wouldn't mind? I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to help out. I don't really know what the other reasons might be, so I won't go into them, but I'd love it if an admin or supermod could tell us if those reasons are actually big enough to justify getting rid of this feature altogether. 🙂

So, does finding it easier to moderate without IMG code or having certain "reasons" really justify disabling images on an entire subforum? I mean, maybe, but 9 people have already voted for image posting in the poll!
Bringing IMG tags back to the Teens subforum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Since IMG code is back on some subforums but still missing from the Teens section, let's use this poll to see who wants it back! The moderators mentioned that bringing it back is totally doable, they just feel like things are easier to manage without it. Personally, I don't think we post images nearly enough for that to be a real issue, so I guess we're asking the supermods and admins to consider bringing image posting back to the Teens subforum if there's enough support. Thanks! 🙂

I've definitely run into that before in my own life, though I never really thought to start a thread about it. I think I know how to handle myself when things get weird, but I guess some people just don't. Honestly, I was mostly just curious about what actually causes someone to act that way.

I mean, I usually try to live by that, I guess. But sometimes you just have to do what’s right. You can't just take everything forever, but then you feel guilty for pushing back. Maybe it's best to just walk away from people like that, but honestly, sometimes that's just not an option.

Benjamin Wilson4 said:It’s easier for me to stomach things when I remember this: every single, absolutely every person carries their own baggage—complexes, fears, insecurities. If someone acts like they’re perfectly fine, it just means they’ve become experts at masking it. In fact, the need to hide it usually suggests those deep-seated issues are even more intense than most. 😉 At our core, we’re all just lost souls looking for a sense of belonging and a reason to be loved. When you view people through that lens, you almost feel a sense of pity for them. It makes it much easier to understand—and frankly, to forgive—the toxic ways they act out toward the world just to shield their own fragility.

I totally agree! But what if those negative actions they use to hide their insecurities get way too extreme or just plain ugly?

I'd say it's normal behavior unless it becomes a lifestyle. Everyone snaps or acts out occasionally, even if they don't realize they're doing it.
Then again, it could be anything... maybe you just caught them on a bad day when they've reached their limit, and tomorrow they'll be the nicest person you know.
If someone is consistently like that, I'd argue it stems from deep-seated insecurity—they put others down to compensate—or they're just living under permanent stress.

I really love that takeaway! It's most likely true. Then people just get used to it and keep acting that way even when they don't need to.
Dealing with smear campaigns in Psychology ·
Of course, not everyone acts that way, but I guess some people—maybe even most of them—react like that. Especially when something new or totally unexpected pops up. It’s probably just a defense mechanism, I suppose. Who knows!
Dealing with smear campaigns in Psychology ·
Why do people feel this need to be so mean to one another? Like, why the constant urge to belittle others or hide behind all that irony and sarcasm?

Is it just some kind of defense mechanism, I guess? Or do you think it’s just how people are wired, or maybe it's caused by something else entirely?
jadetrucker43 said:Honestly, you shouldn't even need an explanation for that! As such a model user, I guess it probably shouldn't even matter to you. 😉

I totally get that, but I guess if a family member or a friend uses my computer and logs into my account, could the authorities maybe misinterpret something?
northernpilot2 said:I guess identifying who belongs to which clone isn't really allowed, so we just don't do that if that's where this is heading.

That’s not really what I meant! I was more curious about how the authorities—who should know—actually find out? Is it maybe through an Intel address?
jadetrucker43 said:Yeah, you can have multiple accounts (clones), but you have to register each one to a different IP address. You can't use the same one.

I guess if any of those accounts get banned, you aren't allowed to use any of them. Also, it's against the rules to talk about the same topic using different accounts or basically just talking to yourself.

But wait, how would they even know if both accounts belong to the same person?
Here I am! So, I was wondering, when you guys eventually decide to pick a new moderator somewhere, maybe I'll be on the shortlist since I did say I was interested?
So, how exactly does one become a moderator?
Why is that?
