Someone's hacking into my account in Feedback & Suggestions ·
mistyseal8 said:Me again. Strange thing. My "last visit" keeps updating every 12 hours—exactly at 07:58 and 19:58. Is this just some forum glitch, or am I actually logging in from nowhere?🤔 :zbunj:

It’s probably just two different service providers. One of your devices is likely reconnecting automatically. If your connection resets—which is pretty standard with Microsoft setups—that would explain those exact timestamps.

Cracking a forum password isn't easy since the account locks you out after a few failed attempts. Brute forcing is too slow to be worth the effort. Of course, if someone manages to steal a username and password, they could try an offline brute force attack, but I haven't seen that happen yet. (The only real way to play is to crack the admins' credentials and use their permissions to mess with everyone else.)
darkseal9 said:A guy barely even posts a link, and it’s up to the forum to decide if it’s worth looking at or not. It isn't your job to decide for us by replying with, "So what if some radioactive water leaked? That's just pure Natural science," only to have the mods swoop in and hand you a ban. We see plenty of examples like that—people playing favorites or acting like they own the place. We all know how certain mods feel about specific topics, and it's pathetic how you guys shut down actual "scientific" discussions.
And why try to frame someone as a panic-monger, like they're some kind of Doomsday Prophet? There's a difference between shifting focus and screaming "everyone run for the bunkers!"

Personally, I find the topic interesting and would love to see it opened, but whether it does or doesn't, it won't kill me.

I think you've got the wrong forum. Try the one below. Science isn't determined by whoever can spam the most links. (I know, crazy right?)

Of course not. That’s just my own take. I have nothing to do with running this forum; that's all up to Nick.

Haven't you people ever heard of instant messaging? Must be that Facebook generation. 😠

slycrane94, I can't even issue you a formal warning at this point; just go ahead and write your own citation somewhere.

I'll be taking a three-day break due to a lack of respect for the faithful. See you Tuesday.

Ah, a theistic agnostic. Is that like intelligent design or military intelligence?

p.s. You aren't exactly headed for heaven, if you haven't realized that yet. ☕

I can't exactly leave you alone to torment those poor believers.

Besides, what would I even do up in heaven? 😛 There's still plenty to do down here. I'll just bankroll everything through my trust fund when Nice isn't available for a weekend getaway. 😁

I know you're fishing for a reaction out of me, but I really don't give a damn what anyone thinks. I have no intention of stooping to that "you know what they say about you" level of petty—I'm not a child. At least I'm not.
I'm sure your goal was to derail this thread, and you probably succeeded, but if that kind of thing actually brings you joy, you're likely the last person on this board who should be judging anyone.

Does being totally indifferent to things not matter to you ultra-believers? Won't that get in the way of your path to heaven?

feralpilot0 said:So, what's the deal—can he claim women are less than dirt under a boot, yet still be required to hire them and play nice if his kid happens to fail German class?

Discrimination is the literal engine behind hate speech—do we really need to draw a map for you to find that?

The platform policy here is a joke; I mean, seriously, what do the admin and supermod think about this?? 😕

Discrimination is an active choice. It’s refusing someone a job because they’re a woman, Black, White, Japanese, or brown-eyed, and so on.

Claiming that women or blondes get under your skin is just your opinion, and you're entitled to it. Likewise, others are entitled to think your opinion is complete nonsense.

As for what Alex Barnes8 allows, you'll have to ask her. It's no secret that my views on what should be permitted and hers don't align in the slightest.

Sean Cook2 said:That’s just the logical conclusion of the stances he promotes.

And you—just keep talking nonsense.

This is easily one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Rational people can hold a conversation with those they dislike or disagree with. Claiming that anyone who thinks women are less capable than men in certain areas will discriminate against all of them at every opportunity is, to put it mildly, a massive stretch.

Sean Cook2 said:Exactly.

It shouldn't matter what he thinks about feminism—nobody is stopping him from expressing his views—but he shouldn't be allowed to belittle or degrade all women in the process.

The Equal Rights Amendment states (Art. 16):

Media outlets are expected to promote awareness regarding gender equality through their programming, content standards, editorial guidelines, and self-regulatory measures.

Publicly portraying or presenting men and women in an offensive, derogatory, or demeaning manner based on gender or sexual orientation is strictly prohibited.

How much is this media outlet actually promoting gender equality if they won't penalize content that explicitly claims women will never catch up to men in intellectual or creative capacity—essentially arguing that true equality of ability is a myth and therefore women don't deserve equal social standing, or that their ambitions are just inflated and they are merely submissive conformists lacking willpower?

To speak like that is high-level sexism—unless, of course, you hold those exact views and find nothing wrong with them.

Give me a break. Of course he’s allowed to believe women belong in the kitchen or that Saudi Arabia is right to ban them from driving.

The law exists to protect women from things like being denied a job just because they're female, not to force everyone to hold polite opinions or kiss their asses.

If he were calling for violence against women or telling employers to fire them, then we'd have a case. But he wasn't saying that, so the law has no business stepping in here. A person has a right to their opinion and to express it, no matter how much it gets under your skin. I'm sure there are plenty of people whose opinions get under yours, yet here you are, still posting on Reddit.

Just from the way you phrased that, it’s clear nothing bothers you. And you're wearing purple—how lovely.

The color I choose doesn't prove a thing. What's your actual reasoning for complaining about it?

Are we really at a point where you can't say anything that might be interpreted as slightly negative toward feminists?

The issue is that some young women—and even certain women—take any critique of female behavior written by a man as an absolute insult or pure hate.

Is this still just an administrative question about whether we're taking critiques of women's behavior too seriously?

What exactly makes it so illegal and disgusting, if you don't mind me asking?

Walter Taylor76 said:Personally, I don't find the ads that annoying. It was just a bit much because it popped up right when I opened the site. If we're going to be flooded with ads, shouldn't we see some actual improvements? This vBulletin version you guys are running is four years old... and this theme is just one of those free ones you get out of the box.

From what I gather, the ad revenue covers the deficits and helps fund the rest of the site. So, it’s probably best to leave things as they are.
As for the layout, I don't see the need to change it. It's pretty clean and isn't too flashy. I'd personally prefer a dark mode with light text, but it is what it is.

I like that idea. It's a historically proven way to squeeze cash out of people. I'll ask Nika to take a look. 😁

Especially considering how little care has been shown for this community so far. I wouldn't give him a dime. There are too many underlying issues here that have nothing to do with technical glitches.

Another reason why donations are a bad move? People start acting entitled once they pay, demanding special treatment or expecting things to run their way. Since this place opened, there’s always someone complaining that the moderators are out to get them. It’s like those kids in high school who swear every teacher has a personal vendetta against them.

George Sanders37 said:My final post on this thread.

I know nobody actually asked me, but isn't this all just pathetic? At least I finally figured out why the forum was blocked, and I can't say I disagree with the assessment of Google.

What follows is directed more toward the Owner. Organize a fundraiser, add a PayPal button to accept donations, introduce a membership fee—for heaven's sake, just do something.

I’ve suggested this several times, but honestly, it's hard to gauge how many people would actually be willing to pay. Without knowing the costs, it's also impossible to figure out how much everyone would need to donate to make it work.

The reality is that nobody has built a competing forum yet. It's easy enough to launch one, but paying to maintain something of this scale is anything but cheap.

George Sanders37 said:I'm not exactly a tech expert, so I have no clue which ad plugin you're running. But isn't it telling that Google has already flagged us as a malicious site twice this year? It feels like being both the prosecutor and the judge in your own trial. Or maybe that's just how it works now.

I won't get into the specifics of the finances. At the end of the day, we're talking about the online business model behind this forum, and I agree—that’s not our concern to worry about. Isn't it better to just let them handle their own books?

I only step into threads like this because I hate seeing this community lose its credibility over issues that are actually quite easy to fix. Why let things slide when they don't have to?

The first time around, they blocked it because of some images users uploaded—honestly, Google is just as trash as any other big American corporation. Once that happened, I noticed they started using third-party ads, which triggered all that panic when antivirus software started flagging them and everything went sideways.

It’s an easy fix if you actually have the budget for it. The Owner seems to think there isn't any money to spare, and I suppose he's right—he knows exactly what his margins look like and what everything costs these days. Either way, none of us admins are ever consulted on these kinds of decisions.

George Sanders37 said:When ads were just sitting quietly in the sidebar, nobody really cared. But lo and behold, advertisers realized people weren't actually looking at them if they were too subtle. So they decided to start throwing pop-ups at us. Then came the pop-ups that hide the close button. Then some "hackers" figured out that since nobody checks these ads anyway—starting with Google and moving down the line—they might as well inject all sorts of scripts, ranging from malicious to just plain stupid.

If ads had stayed where they belonged, tucked away on the side, there wouldn't be any need for AdBlock.

It’s easy to just slap AdSense on a forum, run some ads, and then act like it's nobody's fault when someone catches a virus through them. Nica actually mentioned, while reporting news from the tech admins, that it was caused by a plugin that was completely out of their control.

So what's the solution? Should everyone just disable AdBlock and catch viruses for the sake of "taking one for the team"? Do you honestly think that after years of things staying exactly the same, we'd suddenly find the budget for a new server, a site update, or a better interface?

I'd report you for trolling, but we all know that doesn't change anything.

Well, Google blocked AdSense, so there isn't much choice. Given how many massive sites survive on AdSense, I doubt they're all just breeding grounds for viruses.

I don't use any blockers myself, and I've never had an issue. Though, it's possible I'm just missing certain ads because someone is constantly messing with the style sheets.

At any rate, from what I hear, there just isn't enough money to do anything better. How or why that is doesn't really matter.

George Sanders37 said:If ads weren't so aggressive and didn't constantly try to shove malware down our throats, nobody would even bother with AdBlock.

Fair point. I remember back in the day when using an ad blocker was seen as taboo. People always had some excuse for why they shouldn't use one.

I don't really care either way, but if you want free content, you should probably pay for it somehow.
