I’ve been digging around online, but I can't seem to find any straight answers. I’ve ended up with a mountain of old toner cartridges from various printers and faxes, plus some inkjet ones too. I assume they need to be recycled—probably legally required, much like old batteries—but here's the snag: these HP cartridges offer a paid mail-in recycling program, but it’s not available for us here in the States. Does anyone know who handles this kind of thing around the New York City area? I want to drop them off somewhere where they actually get processed instead of just being tossed into a standard landfill, which is apparently how "recycling" works around here sometimes. It would also be great if there was a way to get a little kickback for them; I heard a rumor about someone in NYC who did refills and offered discounts on reloaded cartridges, but I can't track them down anymore...

Does anyone know if there are companies in the US that buy back used toner cartridges? I seem to remember some firm offering a discount on new ones, kind of like $3.25 based on how much empty toner you have left... it’s probably not a fortune, but I’ve got a massive pile of old cartridges sitting here that I’d rather not just toss in the trash (call it environmental consciousness or whatever...). I don't need full ones, though, because my printer's fuser just kicked the bucket. :/

Look, I might sound a bit dense here, but you never really know until you check:

What kind of surface are you working with? An optical mouse is basically useless on something like a glass desk—shiny surfaces are always a nightmare for them. You’re much better off with something matte, even just a standard sheet of printer paper.

Also, I'm a little confused by this part:

I assume you're talking about a different mouse entirely, right? By the way, PS/2 isn't exactly "plug and play." If you hot-swap it while the computer is running, there's a good chance it won't behave at all unless you give the system a full reboot.

Look, I never actually said a warranty was going to protect your data... It’s just that whenever I’m picking out hardware, the warranty is pretty much the only thing that actually matters to me. Electronics are finicky by nature; you can buy ten components and one of them is bound to just give up the ghost for no reason at all.

I mean, obviously, if you’re sitting on sensitive files that require a serious backup strategy, that's on you, but otherwise, what’s the big deal? He can always just redownload his music whenever he feels like it.

It’s really not that deep. Just because a drive from that specific series failed on your buddy doesn't mean the whole line is a ticking time bomb, even if you look back a few years from now.

If you're looking for some actual peace of mind, don't just guess—go find out exactly what the warranty coverage looks like and grab whichever one offers the longest protection. Last time I went shopping for hardware, most of them were standard with a three-year warranty, though I remember seeing a promotion where a Western Digital drive actually came with five years of coverage...

Don't be so quick to dismiss it; there might actually be some upside to all this chaos...

For instance, it could be just the nudge needed to finally bring Formula 1 to the States, especially considering how much we're still working on fully integrating into the European Union. 😛

Personally, I don't see much point in banning tobacco advertising when the products themselves are perfectly legal to sell. It feels like a circular logic trap—if you go ahead and ban cigarettes and all those other tobacco products entirely, then obviously you won't be able to advertise them anymore!

But hey, I suppose you can't just go killing the cow that provides the milk, right?
