Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Keith Bennett38 said:That happens to me sometimes too. Honestly, nothing to sweat about... once you reboot, that red 'X' usually clears right up. 🙂

And I see that... well, it's gone now... just vanished...

Sandra Jackson14 said:I'm looking at picking up a new graphics card, and I think I found a decent one. But here's the thing—my power supply is only 380W and this card calls for 400W. Is that going to be an issue?

Man, what kind of GPU pulls 400W on its own??? 😲 🤣 That’s gotta be the total draw for the whole system...
So, which card are you actually looking at??

Why on earth am I seeing an "audio service is not running" error and a big red "x" over my speaker icon when I can clearly hear sound perfectly fine?
Everything was working just fine until now, and I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows.

wearyfalcon11 said:Alright, the price isn't terrible; I could probably scrape that money together.
But I’ve got a question—do you actually think it makes sense to bother upgrading a rig with these specs? I get that I need more RAM, easy enough, but this processor is really killing me. I was hoping to actually play some newer titles without everything crawling, but man, I don't even know where to start with this stuff...

I mean, why not? You can still have some fun with it, just throw a little more RAM in there.
Down the road, you might be able to swing a whole new build, but until then, just milk this one for all it's worth while you can..

Look, I don't know how risky it actually is to buy used hardware? Like, what if the thing just dies on me in a month? Have you ever dealt with this kind of stuff before... maybe had some bad luck?
The RAM is an easy call, though. Those aren't exactly breaking the bank right now.

Here's one for $110 if you can swing that much...
For what I need, it's plenty fine and I'm already running one myself, so I figure it'll do the trick for you too...

Gerald Patel56 said:Hey there...
I need some advice on a power supply for my next build. Give me a few suggestions—maybe just tell me the bare minimum wattage versus what would be ideal, then I'll make my final call...

GPU ..........AMD Radeon HD 6870 Series

Motherboard...........Gigabyte 3870

CPU..........Intel core i5 2320 box

HDD.................Looking for a 7200rpm drive (that should be enough info to figure out the PSU, right?)

RAM.................DDR3 4 GB 1333 (for now, might add another 4 GB stick later)

Not sure which soldering iron I'm going to grab yet, probably just a standard one...

Thinking about picking up this case

Anyway, help me out with the power supply options.

Maybe an XFX one from Best Buy

on the stock market $126
...
So, I finally bit the bullet and installed an ad blocker, and man, let me tell you... it's a total game changer. 😂
Seriously though, do yourselves a favor and get one. Just take my word for it and listen to me on this one 😍
... it makes everything so much smoother...

Lawrence Wright3 said:So, what do you think about this Sapphire HD 6570 with 1GB of GDDR3?? I stumbled upon it for $183... honestly, would my current rigs even be able to handle it??

Look, just grab a 5670 or a 6670, doesn't really matter which one... just make sure you get one with GDDR5 instead of 🙂 GDDR3...

What's the deal with your integrated graphics? 😁 You could probably get by with something like this ASUS 870-C 45

Robert Rodriguez2 said:Look, you accidentally added that memory to your cart twice. Also, the graphics are built right into the processor, and honestly, they perform better than almost any discrete card up to the $167, so you'll be totally fine to game without worrying about it.

Man, what a massive drama over a computer starting from $667... I mean, what would happen if someone actually tried to get answers for just 10 $0.00 questions 😂
though the more questions I see popping up, the more it feels like nobody here is actually buying a PC... 🙂

430W Corsair CX Series
or maybe the 450W EVGA...
honestly, either one should get the job done.. 😁

Zachary Johnson38 said:So, all in all—that monitor (I've already got my new one), this thing for loading CDs (mine probably still works fine), and the case...
And that brings me to $691.
It's actually within my budget.
Now, I have one more question.
Would a setup like that even work?

Look, just ditch the DVD drive and the case. Buy the actual components instead and save some cash... once everything arrives, just toss it into the case you're currently using and call it a day. And yeah, it’ll work, obviously... why wouldn't it?

on what list???
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Zachary Johnson38 said:I already bought the monitor.
Well then, just go find a complete PC setup near $700 and tell me which shop.
Ideally, I'd like a store somewhere close to Siskiyou...

Man, why on earth would you want everything in one single bundle? 🙂 With builds like that, they always end up shortchanging you on some specific part 😁
. Just reuse the case and the power supply from your old rig and buy the individual components instead... then either build it yourself or pay someone else to put it together 😁. They've assembled countless configurations like this before. Just place an order and you're set...

Zachary Johnson38 said:You can definitely play slow games on that, right!?
Look, I'll give you another option, but you're asking me to $1050 find you an "ideal" full setup with top-tier parts, including a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and speakers!

Stop messing around😁 with "everything top-tier"?? For $1050 plus a monitor and all that extra gear??
You've gotta be kidding me... if you meant just the tower, then fine...

Try something like this instead, and just stick with the monitor you already have 😁

1x MSI 870-C45 Motherboard, AMD 770/SB710, DDR3, audio, S-ATA, G-LAN, PCI-E, ATX, AM3 socket
1x AMD Athlon ii X3 450 box Processor, AM3 socket, 3.2GHz, 1.5MB cache, Triple Core
1x 2 GB G.SKILL NS series RAM, PC-10600, F3-10600CL9S-2GBNS, DDR3 1333MHz
1x 500GB Western Digital Caviar Blue Hard Drive, SATA3, 16MB, 7200 RPM, Desktop
1x SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon HD 5670 Graphics Card, PCI-E, 1GB DDR5, HDMI, DVI, D-SUB
1x LG GH22NS70 DVD RW, 22x, SATA, Dual layer, black, bulk
1x 430W Corsair CX Series V2 Power Supply, COR-CMPSU-430CXV2EU, ATX 2.2, 120mm fan
1x Cooler Master Elite 310 RC-310-BKN1-GP Case, MIDI, black-blue, no PSU
$973 http://www.newegg.com/
Or just reuse whatever you can from your old rig... at least grab the power supply, the case, and the hard drive... then you can buy the rest when you actually have the cash...🙂

for example, I want it to just show Name and Date Modified at the top—is that actually doable? I'm running Windows 7

thanks

Look, you just right-click on something like "Name" or "Size" at the top of the window and you can pick exactly which columns you want to see...🙂

Issues with Norton antivirus and Skype 2011 in Software ·
Linda Garcia said:I'm running the full version of Norton antivirus 2012 along with Skype 2011. The issue is that Skype keeps crashing on me, or I just stop receiving messages entirely—and if they send me something, I don't see it until I manually restart the app just to get the flow going again. I did some digging online and read that this is usually caused by Norton, and apparently, there's a fix where you go into the online shield settings and uncheck the "Instant Messaging" tab... but my version of Norton doesn't even have that option. Even a friend of mine using Norton 2011 doesn't see an online shield or an instant messaging tab, and she's having the exact same headache with her messenger. Has anyone else dealt with this? Does anyone know a workaround besides the one I mentioned?

Just wipe that Norton stuff off your drive and install a decent antivirus already.
Personally, I stick with Avast and I haven't had a single hiccup with MSN...

It recognizes the .srt file... I honestly don't see why you're having such a hard time with the subtitles. Just fire up the movie in VLC Media Player, load that subtitle.srt file, and it'll work perfectly fine
