I had such a bizarre experience at the post office yesterday, and honestly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around what actually happened... 😕
Basically, I received a slip on Tuesday stating that I had five days, starting Wednesday, to pick up an international package. It’s just some items I ordered from eBay. Since I couldn't make it out immediately, I finally headed down there yesterday. The funny thing is, earlier that same morning, my mail carrier had already dropped off the exact same items from eBay right in my mailbox—no signature required or anything. So, when I get to the counter, the clerk insists there’s absolutely nothing waiting for me, even asking me three separate times if I hadn't already picked it up. I tried explaining that I definitely hadn't, and besides, if I had, I wouldn't still be holding this yellow notice in my hand 😁 She searched through every possible bin and compartment, but still came up empty. I asked her if it was possible that these were the same packages the mail carrier delivered that morning, and she asked if I had signed for them. I told her no, he just left them in the box. She then claimed that according to some system code, it couldn't be those, because those "missing" packages were supposed to require a signature 🙂
She told me to come back on Monday so she could look into the matter further. I truly can't tell who is being unreasonable here... 😵
Donna Richardson55 said:Could someone please explain this to me... I went to pick up a package at the local post office because the mail carrier left a slip on my door, and the clerk there asked me for seventy cents. It isn't even much money, but I just don't understand what she was charging for—I didn't have a chance to ask her before I just handed over $0.33 and walked away... the people in line behind me were getting pretty restless...

It’s possible she was charging you a storage fee for the package sitting at the station😁
I've had to pay something similar myself a few times, though it's been quite a while since anyone has asked me for anything like that...😳
Chloe Moore65 said:you still can't pay for the $1.75, especially since they mentioned home delivery carries an extra fee for $0.67 and it's only available in specific areas... you can find the list of those locations on the USPS website

I mean, how is this even possible!?😕 I was sending a small package from downtown Washington, D.C. to another part of the city just as these new fees were being implemented😳, and the clerk actually asked if I wanted to pay an additional $1.75 to have it delivered directly to a doorstep🤷... honestly, what a bunch of crooks... as if raising the base shipping rates wasn't enough, now they're squeezing us for extra money on top of it for supposed "delivery services"...🙄

On another note, I have a question regarding something else. My boyfriend uses my eBay account to order massive amounts of stuff to feed his collecting hobbies🤣. Since we live in an apartment building where we've had some pretty bad experiences—things like theft, packages getting smashed, or mail carriers just leaving items outside the front door or trying to cram oversized boxes into tiny mail slots—everything gets sent straight to my home address instead😁. Now, some items arrive clearly labeled as packages, and I get a notification to pick them up at the local post office. However, other shipments, which are also in sturdy cardboard boxes and look identical to standard packages, are categorized under different shipping profiles—which I assume depends on how various postal services handle things globally—and I'm wondering if I'll be charged that $1.75 delivery fee for those too, since the mail carrier usually just brings them right to our door regardless of the label😍... especially since he's been giving my mom a hard time about how much I buy, mostly because he's tired of constantly dealing with all the cardboard packaging in his bag🙂...

if I send a package and pay an extra $1.75 for shipping, what happens if the mail carrier arrives at the recipient's house and nobody is home? They just leave one of those yellow slips and then the recipient has to trek down to the local USPS branch to pick it up—so who actually gets to keep that extra $1.75 fee?!?!?
It seems to me they operate on the same business hours we do, and most people are stuck at work when the mail comes through... surely they realize that working professionals aren't going to be lounging around the house all morning, unless you're a stay-at-home parent or someone recovering from childbirth waiting by the door... 😍

And honestly, can we even trust that the carrier actually attempted the delivery? Or did they just drop off the notice without knocking? It’s happened to me more than once—I'm sitting right here waiting, and then around 2:00 PM, I see a notification saying they tried to reach me at 11:00 AM... it feels less like a missed connection and more like a complete lack of effort, or perhaps even something more deceptive $1.75... 😂

I wonder what the clerk at the post office would say to all of this...

The woman at the post office mentioned to me that since the policy change back in early 2011, there's been an additional $1.75 charge for home delivery, though if I understood her correctly, you might be able to opt to have the package held at the station instead... which would just result in them leaving a slip and allowing you to avoid that $1.75 surcharge. But regardless, it feels like no one really bothered to consider the very point you're raising... 😁
Furthermore, since the entire country has essentially become one unified zone, sending a package within Seattle costs the exact same as shipping it to any other city in the States, which strikes me as completely illogical and quite frankly, a bit pointless... 🙄
Just wanted to share a quick update on how things wrapped up: I decided to give the local USPS office in San Diego a call myself today, since I wasn't really in the mood to deal with the back-and-forth at the counter... and it turns out the package had actually been sitting there for days, even though the clerk hadn't received any paperwork for it. Once I sent over my message, she went ahead and released it to her without needing the official slip. If I hadn't taken the initiative to call them this morning, I have a feeling the whole thing would have just been sent back to me tomorrow...😁
Chloe Moore65 said:I suspect you receive the full declared value rather than just a fifth, though I’ve personally never had to file a claim like that...

Emily Peterson73 said:...my understanding is that if you declare the package value, you get the full amount. If nothing is specified, they only pay out five times the shipping cost. Claims are processed $1.75 and can only be initiated once fifteen business days have passed since the shipment date.

Thank you for clarifying, because it seems perfectly logical to me that the declared value would be reimbursed—after all, there would be little point in stating it otherwise...😕 but the clerk at the USPS counter left me feeling completely bewildered😳 as I still vividly remember her asking whether I was expecting a payout for a C.O.D. shipment😕 or if I had already received it. It honestly feels as though she didn't quite grasp the situation, because if I were sending something via C.O.D., the receipt would look entirely different, wouldn't it?
Reading through the comments above regarding theft, I am somewhat at a loss for words. The real issue is simply that such things are nearly impossible to prove...😢
I just walked in from the USPS, and I am absolutely fuming😳
Here is how things unfolded: I mailed out a package back on October 26th from a location in Florida, and by any reasonable standard, it should have arrived by now. However, the recipient is insisting they haven't received anything. Fortunately, I kept my receipt as proof of mailing. To make matters worse, another small parcel sent on that very same day has already been delivered. So, I head into the post office today and ask the clerk if she can please track down where the delay is occurring. She looks at me as if I’m asking for the impossible😕 I explained that I simply wanted to confirm if the package ever reached its destination in Florida, and if not, exactly where it currently sits. She just looked completely bewildered, barely even acknowledging me while she was preoccupied picking out her numbers for a bingo card🙄 My blood pressure spiked instantly and my heart started racing😠 I pointed out that every single package has a unique tracking number, much like a barcode, so she could just look it up using that. She still acted like she had never heard of such a thing in her life🙄 She then informed me that if I actually want to find out the whereabouts of my shipment, I would need to file a formal claim, which comes with an additional fee. At that point, I honestly felt like I might lose my temper and break something, though I couldn't even reach her through the thick glass partition!🙂 Who is being unreasonable here!? What is even the point of having a tracking number, the date and time of postage, and all the sender and recipient addresses printed right there on the paper!?
And there is one more thing: she mentioned that if a package is actually lost, you only receive about a quarter or a fifth of the declared value. So, if the value is $33 (which is my situation), I would only get back about twenty cents??? Is that actually true? I didn't have the energy to keep arguing with her, so I just told her I would return tomorrow afternoon when a different colleague—one who isn't so focused on her bingo ticket—is on duty:2up:
Insane winter chill! in Health ·
I couldn't help but smile reading through all these posts from my fellow cold-sensitive girls; it actually made me feel a little warmer just knowing I’m part of this little club...🤣
It's pretty much the same story over here—low blood pressure and occasional anemia. I don't let it worry me too much, though I sometimes wonder if I really should be doing something about it...😁
But what truly drives me crazy is how freezing my feet get.😲They feel like I just pulled them straight out of a deep freezer,😳 staying icy regardless of how many layers of socks I pile on, whether it's a blizzard outside or a warm summer day. Sometimes it feels like I've been wading through ice water all day long.🤣I've tried taking Ginkgo Biloba and various other supplements, but nothing seems to make a dent.
Does anyone have any actual advice on how to improve circulation without resorting to old-fashioned home remedies like rubbing nettles on my skin?😁
It’s becoming quite clear now😍 mostly you should just check that shop in the working-class neighborhood I sent you the link for, though occasionally you might stumble upon similar little things in larger supermarkets, like a Whole Foods or maybe even a Kroger...
I honestly can't quite grasp what you're looking for exactly...😕 you didn't really phrase things very clearly😁>
but perhaps this might be of some use to you, as they truly have everything you'd need for a party...

I had a certified package sent from Chicago this past Wednesday, and it still hasn't arrived...
Meanwhile, a certified letter sent from a suburb like Naperville on Wednesday arrived the very next day...

Keep in mind that Chicago is practically right next door to me, whereas Naperville is quite a bit further away... so how is it even possible that the shipment from the suburbs showed up overnight, while the one from the big city didn't make it by Friday or even Saturday...
Is it possible it just got lost somewhere? Or does it truly take much longer to get from downtown Chicago to my town than it does from Naperville to here...

Honestly, nothing about the USPS makes sense to me anymore, because I've experienced it all—sending things out and getting certified mail back in three or four days, while standard mail would arrive in just a day or two...😕 and every single time they charge me a different rate for certified shipping; sometimes they accept it, other times they start nitpicking about how it isn't packaged according to their specific regulations just to justify a higher price, it's just endless nonsense... all of this happened at the local post office in my small town outside of Chicago. Eventually, I grew tired of those pointless arguments with the clerks and started using the main branch on Main Street instead. At first, everything was fine, and things moved incredibly fast. But the last two or three times, I dealt with the same woman at the counter, and I noticed something strange... she would set my envelopes aside while she'd just toss everyone else's directly into the bin under the desk😕 and now, the speed isn't nearly what it used to be; it took three days for a delivery to Chicago, and a shipment headed toward Miami hasn't even arrived after a full week, so I really don't know what to think anymore, but I certainly have my doubts...☕
Does anyone happen to know how long it typically takes for a standard package sent from a city like Chicago to reach somewhere like Houston, Phoenix, or maybe Seattle?
I’m not entirely certain if this is the right forum to turn to for advice, but I feel compelled to try because I’m feeling a bit lost on how to handle this situation...
Two weeks ago, I sold a shirt to a young woman, and she was absolutely wonderful—paid immediately and followed our agreement perfectly. I shipped her item the very next day, along with two other small packages, but while those two arrived almost instantly, this first one still hasn't shown up. I actually went down to the local USPS office after five days had passed, and the clerk there assured me that things are just moving slower than usual due to the holiday rush, telling me not to worry because it would eventually arrive. I didn't receive any formal tracking paperwork, though. Meanwhile, the girl keeps letting me know that the package still hasn't reached her. She mentioned something about being in the middle of moving houses, and I can't help but wonder if that might be complicating the delivery process...
Now I find myself wondering what the best course of action is? 😕She really is a lovely person and was so prompt with the payment, and I made sure to ship everything right away, yet those new shirts are still nowhere to be found. 😢
Common Cold in Health ·
I thought I’d jump into this discussion as well, mostly because I’ve come down with another cold, and honestly, being sick for the third time in just two months is starting to drive me absolutely crazy 😠
I simply cannot handle the winter months, and it seems like every single time the temperature drops, I end up dealing with either a sore throat or a full-blown cold. It really feels like my immune system is just failing me lately, so I’m planning on taking some serious steps to address this moving forward 😁
In the past, my doctor would typically prescribe antibiotics, which honestly felt like they were destroying my body, whether I was dealing with the flu, a common cold, strep throat, or just a nasty inflammation... I experienced almost every side effect imaginable, from dizziness and nausea to changes in my sense of taste and smell, skin issues, and even sleeping for twelve hours straight. When I finally voiced these concerns, she basically told me that if the medication didn't work for me, I should just go find something else at a drugstore 🙄 since then, I’ve mostly been managing things on my own.
It isn't that I don't try to take precautions, but you can never be careful enough, I suppose. I just can't wrap my head around how I can feel perfectly fine one day, only to wake up the next morning struggling to breathe, coughing up mucus, and dealing with a raw, inflamed throat 😕
On top of all that, I usually lose my voice about twice a year, which makes it impossible to even get through a simple conversation. Someone suggested I might need more calcium, though I truly believe I get enough through my diet 🤷 and a pharmacist once mentioned that I probably strain my vocal cords too much and really need to learn how to breathe properly and speak through my nose

I won't ramble on any longer, but if anyone happens to have some helpful advice or a suggestion that actually works, I would be so incredibly grateful to hear it 😉
