Best PC build for $750? in Desktops ·
Before you come crashing in like a malfunctioning parachute, maybe try doing a little reading first. 😵
8. When posting about buying a new PC, you MANDATORILY need to answer these questions:
- What’s your budget looking like?
- Which retailer are you hitting up (paying cash or using a card)?
- What’s the main use case—gaming, work, or just browsing?
- What parts are we talking about? Do you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.?
- Are you planning on overclocking anything?
- Does aesthetics or noise level matter to you?
- Building it yourself or having a shop like Best Buy put it together?
PC Modding in Desktops ·
I’ve never actually messed with this myself, but if I were you—maybe try some rubber gaskets or weatherstripping to dampen the vibration? Think along the lines of those cheap plumber's seals you find at Home Depot; it’s an inexpensive way to kill the rattling.

Edit: Just making sure you realize you'll be applying those seals on the side where the hard drive sits.
How much does Microsoft Office 2013 cost? in Software ·
I'm with you there. Back when I was working in a project management office, only one workstation actually had Microsoft Office—and even then, it was just the 2003 version—while everything else was running on something like Apache OpenOffice.

Ideally, I'd grab everything from one spot and have them build it all at once—saves a headache. Appreciate the ideas, everyone.

Along with Amazon, you’ve got Futura-it, Centro, ADM—they'll actually handle the assembly for free if you go over $667, though I'm not 100% on the shipping costs. Not sure about Amazon's specifics, but a quick Google search should clear that up.

Edit: Amazon charges $23 (cash) for assembly and testing.
Power supply made a loud screeching noise in Hardware ·
Benjamin King2 said:Is the boot process itself dragging, or is it just Windows loading slowly? If it's a Windows issue, maybe try running a startup repair—something might have gotten corrupted when the power cut out.

If you mean the initial flash when entering the BIOS/UEFA, that’s normal—it only shows for a second. The issue is definitely Windows. The welcome screen takes forever to load, and today I actually got a black screen after everything powered up; I sat there for about 10-15 seconds before the display finally popped up, and then I had to wait another minute and a half before things were actually usable. I don't even have many startup programs running (just Avast, Realtek audio, Catalyst Control, and uTorrent). I thought about doing a clean install of Windows, but honestly, I'm feeling too lazy for that... 🙂 I'll probably just leave it for a few days to see if the lag persists, and if it does, I'll bite the bullet and reinstall. For context, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

So, here’s the deal—I was just hanging out watching a movie when the screen suddenly went black 🙂 accompanied by this weird noise coming from the power supply, which then tripped the main switch and shut everything down. I’m running an EVGA 500 W1. I borrowed an EVGA Pro 550 W from a buddy to test things out, and while the PC actually boots now, it's taking way longer to get started than usual. Is it possible that cutting the power so abruptly caused some kind of lasting damage to the components? 🤷

Specs:
Intel Core i5-3570K (stock)
MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard
Seagate 500 GB Barracuda
Sapphire HD7770 (stock)
1×8 Gb HyperX

P.S.: If this is in the wrong sub-forum, mods, feel free to move it.
Thanks!

Kenneth Jackson3 said:thanks, have you overclocked it yet?

not yet—I haven't really leaned into that side of things since my major is fine arts technology🙂... besides, I'm planning to drop an SSD in first and see if there's even a point to overclocking... maybe down the road, but I wouldn't touch it without an aftermarket cooler...

I'm running a Ryzen 5 3600 on an ASUS board paired with a Sapphire HD7770—honestly, I’ve been pretty happy with the setup
Everything holds up fine for me—from grinding through just about any game to handling various dev environments without a hitch...
Monitor brightness issues in Computer Peripherals ·
I used to have this little utility app—can't recall the name now—to deal with screen glare since I’m usually grinding away at my PC until the early hours...
It would be a hell of a lot easier if I could just dim the brightness like I do on my laptop, but hey—you just make do with what you've got. 😁
