Lately, I've been spending most of my time digging through the local scene; there are some genuinely great new releases out if you have an appetite for a heavier sound.

Let’s try this one more time, just to be incredibly clear: do you honestly believe your average mileage is closer to "100-124 miles per week" or "62 miles per day"? Once you actually answer that, go back and read my previous point, and you'll realize you're actually on my side.

Christian Wright45 said:that's 435 miles weekly... those elite training sessions are just that intense....

I wouldn't classify anyone who considers 435 miles per week to be an intense workout as "elite"; they're just serious hobbyists. But fine, we clearly have different definitions of what constitutes an "elite athlete," so there's no point arguing about semantics. Regardless, crimsonhound3 made a valid point: stop stressing over your VO2 max and your quads. Just get on the bike, ride, and enjoy the process.

Christian Wright45 said:Because if you actually realize how much $100-124 miles is per day?

I know. Roughly... $100 up to 124 miles a day.

Christian Wright45 said:...maybe $400-311 miles weekly... should be... I work about 155 miles when school is in the afternoon... because I can't make it... and when it's in the morning, maybe $350-280 miles....

Look, try reading for comprehension. I stated that 62 miles daily is "closer to the truth" than $100-124 miles a week, and you even confirmed that right here in this thread. In other words, you're agreeing with me without even realizing it 😁

crimsonhound3 said:Once you start putting in 100124 miles miles per day , you'll find your stamina, don't sweat it.

I am in complete agreement with the rest of this post, though I would argue that the statement above only approaches the truth if we make one small adjustment: 😁 124 miles doing that once a week is child's play for even a casual rider, let alone someone who actually considers cycling their primary sport.
Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
feralbison4 said:if you're actually looking to pack on quality muscle mass, you need to be hitting roughly 2 grams of protein per gram of body weight.

"Uh, good afternoon, I'd like to order a whole truckload of protein just so I have enough to eat for a week" 😁

So, 2 grams per pound of body weight, just so nobody gets the wrong idea 👍

I play water polo.

😲 Based on those numbers, you’re either skin and bones or you're basically made of helium and floating somewhere above the ground. Like Joshua Anderson4 mentioned, your body is still going through its major growth spurts right now, and that process burns through energy like crazy. Just stick with the training and don't sweat the lack of body fat; eventually, water polo will carve out a great physique for you. In my opinion, swimmers and water polo players have the best builds—don't get me wrong, bodybuilders are impressive, but they're just not my thing 😁.

Ronald Kelly3 said:I don't quite follow the logic behind all this running obsession. If the consensus was that running won't actually burn through fat stores, then why the hell is everyone suddenly sprinting around?

I certainly can.

Ronald Kelly3 said:Even if you could somehow manage to burn fat from every single part of your body at once, you still couldn't target specific spots; localized fat loss just isn't how the biology works.

Exactly.

Well, you have to do more sit-ups just to be capable of doing more sit-ups. It’s basically a recursive loop. 😁

Personally, I've always been a fan of AC/DC's "Back in Black." I also have a soft spot for Ben & Jerry's ice cream—specifically the wild berry and mascarpone flavor. But, much like Fight Club, none of this actually has anything to do with the topic at hand. ☕

That opening sequence in the third installment... honestly, it gave me a strange sense of peace just watching it. 😁 As far as the original goes, though—it was top-tier. 👍

Jerry Martin19 said:''opinions are like assholes. everybody 's got one'' (I can't recall who originally said this, though I suspect it might be Brian Molko, the frontman for Placebo)

Well, if he actually said it, then you should probably take his word for it; the guy looks like he’s seen plenty of action in that particular department. 😁

Back to the topic at hand: I’ve never had any interest in reading film reviews, flipping through movie magazines, or sitting through shows about cinema. I don't need some critic explaining to me how much I'm going to enjoy a flick or telling me what specific details I should be looking for. It just kills the whole vibe for me. 😳

edit: Just noticed someone else posted something pretty similar up above 😳 I didn't copy anyone, honestly; I just hadn't scrolled through the entire thread yet. 🙈

How exactly are you supposed to know if a movie has "soul" before you've even seen it? 😕

rapidviper54 said:Rapid Flagg (played by Jamey Sheridan) remains my absolute favorite villain of all time, and
"The Stand" along with "Storm of the Century" are easily the best SK adaptations.

For me, it’s "Misery", "Christina", and "Children of the Corn" (though I know 😳), but especially "The Shining" and "The Shawshank Redemption" (if you can even call those SK adaptations). "Desperation" also pleasantly surprised me 👍

rapidviper54 said:I assume there are some SK fans in here, so I'm not sure if you heard that King is in talks with J. J. Abrams (the man behind Lost, Alias, Mission: Impossible III, and the new Star Trek film) to bring the Dark Tower series to the big screen. Not mini-series stuff—just pure, high-budget cinema...

To be honest, his references aren't exactly off base 😳
I'd be happy to see Dark Tower, even though I haven't worked my way through all the books yet, but what actually excites me more is what's coming for The Talisman. It's an excellent book; I just hope they don't botch it.

Django said:some guy has to hack into the mainframe of some ultra-secure, top-tier agency of unimaginable importance,
he’s got a gun to his head, a woman is performing oral on him, and he’s got sixty seconds to pull it off... of course he succeeds—because in those movies, the protagonists are always the best in the world, the absolute elite, and obviously the fastest.

Look at it this way:

if he hadn't succeeded, there wouldn't be much of a story worth telling, 😉

Hmm, given the specific scenario Django is describing, that doesn't actually strike me as a bad turn of events.😬
The Stand by Stephen King in Movies ·
I personally dig it (though obviously, the book crushes the SK adaptation), but I've always been a total sucker for King, so I guess it’s no surprise... Besides, we've got someone here going by "rapidviper54," so they ought to be able to shed some more light on this 😉

I’m not quite at his age yet, but honestly, I can only hope I don't find myself dreaming about having a physique like that once I actually get there. 😁

velvetmarlin24 said:If we’re going to sit here and talk about acting, then we might as well bring up Jean-Claude Van Damme or Arnold. I haven't seen anyone struggle quite as desperately to deliver a performance in my entire life.

Arnold is. Great. He played The Terminator.
