Look, most of his movies don't really hold up for me today, but I’ve gotta give respect to the absolute legend who was my childhood hero.

Anyone else remember Blood Sport? Honestly, even today, I think it’s a solid flick. Way better than stuff like Lionheart or Hard Target...

The papers are claiming he never even stepped foot in a tournament ring. What a complete joke... such a soft, delicate little dancer...

I’d say Lionheart is probably one of his better flicks—it actually holds up okay. Same goes for Nowhere to Run... though, let's be real, that one is way more trash than it has any right to be. It's just how it goes, I guess. The guy had a decent run of popularity for a minute there, but everyone pretty much knew he wasn't going to stick around forever. Honestly, Van never really had that magnetic charisma, you know? He wasn't exactly unique or anything—he was mostly just known for those weirdly graceful, almost balletic movements during fights. But hey, what goes up must come down. That's just life. Di end!

But in all seriousness—his popularity really peaked here during our turbulent 90s, back when the world seemed interested in nothing but mindless violence (not that things have changed much today, I suppose...) and I have to admit, both he and Steven Seagal were my heroes growing up. As for the claim that he never competed in actual tournaments—that isn't quite right. He did fight; he just happened to lose most of them. If you bother to look it up—there are plenty of old fan sites online—you'll see the record. Regardless of the details, he remains an untouchable legend to me, and frankly, I don't care if people dismiss his movies as total garbage...😛
